Muscle is very tight and tone. Fat cells are flabby and fat jiggles, there is a difference. Excess fat for a young athlete is not beneficial and counter productive. It also increases risk of injury for gymnasts. This is not "body shaming", nor bullying.

The year I left competitive figure skating at senior level and joined professional ice shows, I was told I was "fat". I literally had a 6 pack, 20in waist and muscular legs. Not a scrap of fat on me (but I'm naturally pear-shaped). You can't change your natural shape! I was hounded for 6 years about my weight, even though I was a US size 2-4! I got to the point I was eating 1000-1200 cals a day, while i was exercising/performing a minimum of 2hrs a day, 6 days a week. It's affected me to this day, and I'm 52.

When we say, she just got bullied by everyone because she did not fit in their body standards, we are just scratching the surface of it. The real reason for bullying is often that people just cannot bear to see another fellow human being be extraordinary. They cannot bear to see them shine, to be a light, to be close to legendary, because it reminds them of their own cowardice, to be dependent on approval, to be people pleasers most of the time, and their fear to shine. She is not only a stunning dancer, she also is of an exotic, burlesque kind of beauty, her boundless joy for her work just shows and makes her genius. Unfortunately, she also is vulnerable, wants to be accepted, and does not hide it, and that is why they start the hurting, because they know they can hurt. People are strange sad creatures. Keep shining, beautiful diamond!

Unfortunately, you missed the point. Katelyn has said in many interviews that she is very thankful for her coach (Miss Val, not the previous ones). Katelyn not wanting to be great wasn't a power move. It was a heartbreaking statement, and Miss Val recognized that. When she was the best, she hated the sport and herself. The video even says: "winning at all costs had cost her her joy." This coach helped her regain her love for the sport again and helped her get to a healthy mental state after years of abuse. She was a fantastic coach. The beginning was a little confusing but to clear it up, that awful winning at cost mentality is something she left behind twenty years ago after her first year coaching. Since then she has helped many gymnasts that were broken by the sport.

Every single coach in every single sport needs to take a page from this coach’s book. My oldest son quit all sports because of horrible coaches. I will give credit to the few great ones he had that saw his talent and helped raise up his self concept. But there were two very bad apples that absolutely don’t need to be coaching kids or anyone. They drug my child down and made him hate the sports he loved playing. Shame on all those coaches out that beating kids up with abusive words. And praise to all the ones like this coach that rise athletes up to appreciate and love the person they truly are!
@helRAEzzzer
@helRAEzzzer 2 года назад
I actually wish my coaches growing up were tougher like this coach originally tried to be. I enjoy the competition and pushing myself to my limits, not necessarily the sport itself (basketball, gymnastics, soccer). I had far too many coaches (and teachers for performing arts - another passion of mine) coddle me. When my dad coached my soccer team when I was a kid he had the motto, "if you had fun, you won." The entire town hated when he coached. Every team he would coach would lose EVERY SINGLE GAME. My sister and I begged him to stop volunteering. There isn't one right way to be a coach. A coach is supposed to help an athlete improve and win. Of course, when someone is only starting to learn a sport it would typically be a bit abrasive at best to treat the kids as professionals (though some kids would take well to that), but at the level this woman is coaching it's really not going to be beneficial to be too nice.

And the fact she was able to beat simone biles is awesome. So i see no reason why she was critisized for her weight because it was working for her. Maybe the coaches thought she would be even better of she lost weight idk. That being said. I remember going to a new gym and my coach tickled my tummy and said "what's this!?" "Suck it in!". That was the first moment I began being ashamed of my body.

This is horrifying, it's obvious that she has a lot of muscle, also ballet dancers are supposed to perform physically like elite athletes and still be rail thin. Nobody ever tells a man be strong but don't have visible muscle mass.

I was body shamed and called fat by my classmates in ballet classes because I used to swim and my muscles along my thighs were more horizontally shaped from the explosive trainings. Some kids are mean and evil. Update: For some "professionals" commenting back and telling me that muscles do not look "horizontal" and I was fat without any measurements or tests on me: My description on my muscle shape is for people with different education backgrounds, not for you those "professionals" or online "doctors". If a lab tells me to do the test with an empty stomach, I would never argue that my stomach can't be "empty" because it has digestive enzyme, hydrochloric acids, etc. You online "professionals" need to have some common sense and think about why the physicians do not diagnose and treat patients based on RU-vid comments.

I agree with this, except for the "nobody ever tells a man be strong"... like it actually happens more often with men than women imo.

@@thatweirdscienceguy9880 strong AND not to have visible muscle mass. You focused on a partial statement. Yes men are told to be men, don’t cry etc. But rarely are men told that they should be less muscled.

Yet J-Lo and Kim K make millions on their thick thighs and butts and hips! Go figure! They look like WOMEN! I saw her and only thought wow, shes so muscular from practicing so hard! Never once did I ever think she looked bad or not like she should! She's NOT everyone else! She's herself!

She is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING on the floor! I've NEVER seen a routine as good as the MJ music while at UCLA. Katelyn would be a PERFECT gymnastics coach, because she's BEEN there. She could very well be another young gymnast's equivalent to what Coach Val was to her!!!

@Toast Malone and in turn, I disagree with you. You might be used to having to overcompensate - I couldn’t possibly comment - but I’m not. I think Katelyn is a hugely attractive woman with an amazing, fit, healthy physique. If you disagree, knock yourself out. Each to their own. If you seriously think my opinion “is as bad as shaming” then we have nothing in common and nothing to discuss.

@Toast Malone so if in OUR world she is gorgeous and a goddess.. it cant possibly be true? Like.. dude, most, if not all, women have cellulite. yes she has em. and i still agree with this guy's comment. Her routines were electric. No one is asking you to agree. For you two to pretty much say, "dont exaggerate, thats mean/bad", is you trying to control our opinion.

That's mostly because woman's artistic has moved away from the soft but still powerful style towards a more powerhouse style of gymnastics that's more like men's. I miss the artistry of the earlier gymnastics.

@BLACK HILLS 2021 🇺🇸 - True, because these powder puff women don't see or hear about the pressure pro football players go through making weight, losing weight, being seen too tall, too short, or too slow for a position. Tim Tebow had to go through being told his throwing technique was not "prototypical" of an NFL quarterback. These women don't want equal rights, they want equal appeasement.

It's all about being inside or out regarding "the elite" .. pleasure the right people, f**k your ability to perform top elite gymnastic, if you're not following their mind, sayings, rules, etc., you're out. And they do everything to get you down ... don't even mind stepping over dead bodies, I guess She was not their "little poppie" anymore ... OUT!!
