At the 2018 Ocean Breeze Freedom Games, Katelyn Tuohy ran 9:05.26 for the 3000m, lapping much of the field en route. That mark moved her to #2 All-Time, behind only Mary Cain, who went 9:04.51 in 2013. The mark breaks the Ocean Breeze meet record, held by Kate Murphy (Lake Braddock), at 9:14.02. It also breaks the overall Facility Record, previously set by Collegian Katrina Coogan (Georgetown), when she won the Big East Conference Championships in 9:07.44. Coogan would go on to place third overall in the NCAA D1 Finals the following competition, in almost the same time.
In completing her race, Katelyn Tuohy also breaks the Sophomore National Record in the event, previously held by Kelsey Chmiel (Saratoga). Chmiel set that mark of 9:26.28 at the State Championships held at Ocean Breeze last March. Tuohy's mark converts to 9:45.34 for 3200m & 9:48.72 for the full 2-Mile.
