Uh-no. Kathak means story telling. So it’s supposed to tell a story using footwork - it’s not just footwork.

Kathak is beautiful. None of Indian Traditional dancing are without emotions 🙏

Kathak is about footwork, movement ,chakkars(whirls),, hand movements, postures and expressions with the element of story telling and reciting the syllables ( Padhant). You should know more about it before passing on a statement.

But still not that 26 min long performance from this same concert... 😣

It may have been more than just Kathak. As someone who learnt a bit of Bharatnatyam as a kid and am now learning Flamenco, I find a lot of the movements familiar. The majority of Indian dances are danced in some form of plié, while Kathak is danced with natural turnout. Flamenco is somewhere in between. It is danced with knees bent but feet oriented forward instead of to the side. The swivelling movement of the leg is the same as in Bharatnatyam, in terms of mechanics. Even for the arm positions I had to slightly modify the elbow placement of the standard "eagle arms" of Bharatnatyam and round out my arms more than make precise angles. Also, the gypsies picked up influences from the middle East, Europe and even North Africa as they travelled to Spain and all these influences together gave birth to Flamenco. You just have to dig into the history of the Jaleos (words used to cheer a performer on) to understand the middle-eastern influence.
