The first time I saw a picture of Katherine Jenkins I thought "She wouldn't have to be able to sing". Then I listened to a sample and in 3 notes I was hooked. I think she has the most beautiful voice on the planet.
It's a shame that so many people sign on to YOU TUBE only to complain about the Pitch , the Tone , and of how long a particular singer can hold a Note --Why can't the whiners & complainers just tune in , sit back and enjoy what they're listening to such as Katherine Jenkins who is a magnificent vocalist
***** No you find that opera lovers tend to be like that. They spend more time arguing about who is better, who made what mistake than actually enjoying the music. They will argue and bitch about minor imperfections that most people couldn't hear (and in reality they probably cannot hear either).
dnmurphy48 Funny, because everytime I go to videos of pop singers (like little Ariana Grande for example) there are people bitching as well about her trying to be like Mariah Carey, but being just average, because she has no good whistle notes or is too breathy here and too slow there and her runs are not perfect and singer xyz is so much better and her music is boring and she isn't even composing it herself and she's dressing like a bitch and looking like a whore and blablabla. It's not opera-specific. Not at all. It happens absolutely everywhere. Opera listeners don't like crossover singers for another reason. They dislike them, because real opera singers train their voice for years and years before they actually step onstage and dare to perform this hellishly difficult music, which simply requires vocal perfection if you want to live up to it. They receive training in acting, they play at least one other instrument, speak several languages and learn about music theory and music history to completely understand the technical and historical components of the music they're going to be singing. All in all...they invest their whole life to live up to music that has to be sung WELL to give it credit. And if you are "just" a crossover artist...you're not going to be able to give the classical music credit. Probably artistically yes....if you're really good and understand music. But not vocally. And then saying "This person is an opera singer and can sing opera well", although it's not the case, doesn't sit well with many people. Because they just feel it's unfair that this person is given credit for something he/she isn't even able to do properly. Imagine it that way: A heavy-metal singer starts to sing pop ballads with his vocal technique. You would complain, wouldn't you? Because it would most likely sound crappy and wouldn't fit the style of music, naturally. It's almost the same with opera singers and crossover singers. ^^
dnmurphy48 Well, I'm an opera lover and i'm not like that. No, I'm sure there is a special race out there, the whiners and haters race, who hates everything really superior. I have listened to Anna Netrebko with tears in my eyes finding next day commentaries on youtube like "horrible, no singer, out of tune" etc. These idiots has nothing to do with music, it is just BULLYING!
What a pleasure has been the Phantom of the Opera. It keeps giving. Seen it on stage several times. The songs are gems and performed by such great voices like lovely Katherine Jenkins, Sara Brightman, and others are for ever to enjoy by future generations to come. What a blessing!
It really doesn't matter how her technique is, or how she breathes, or what she looks like - if people like her, then that's what's important. I think she sounds unique, and that's why I like her.
And as a man, I am danged happy about that fact! I am an American cowboy from Montana. Yes we listen to classic/opera in Montana :)She is a breath of fresh air for me because she is nothing like the prima-donnas and personal wrecks we have in this country, i.e. Madonna, Spears, Aguillera, Hilton, etc. She is a woman of character, giving, humility, patriotic, and beautiful! Well done Wales! Well done GB!
She killed it-enough said!It took me 'til after seventh grade to appreciate this song and I'm happy I did because I wouldn't have heard this version by her.
Katherine is truly fantastic ....nobody comes close to her for delivery of her music ...saw her recently perform in Cork Ireland ....she had the crowd in the palm of her hand....we all knew we were in the presence of someone incredibly special ....her voice is magnificent ..we were transfixed by her ..a truly wonderful performer ...and a really genuinely nice person too
okay, so she didnt sing softy. she did it the way she wants, really thats her style, thats her take on this song. her passion makes up for it. so just because she didnt sing it like the movies doesnt mean its bad. this is beautiful&incredibly perfect.
First time I ever heard of her, was last week for the Queen's 90th party behind Windsor Castle. She sang very well. I was impressed. Doesn't matter she is not singing at the Met or anywhere else Opera, other people Mario Lanza, never made it to the Met or any other Opera houses in the world, and he sang so well (tenor) at least you could hear the words he sang. I miss Pavarotti, he was the best TENOR of all time.
Katherines album This Is Christmas is no1 on the classical charts ,this means everyone of Katherines designated classical albums has reached no1(6) also 2 of her compilations ,amazing result from the worlds leading female crossover star
Personally...I like her voice. It's powerful, it has meaning, it has a good range, and honestly, it's beautiful! What a gorgeous woman, with a gorgeous voice to match! The breathing technique worried me, you can damage your voice by breathing in large gasps like that, and then belting. But, otherwise, it was very pleasant listening to her, her vibrato is very nice also!
People who do spend a lot of time , searching for this or that are unable to admit that this girl Katherine has made his way through their hearts....there`s nothing wrong if someone like her makes you shiver ...it`s only love and that is all ...I instead surrend myself to her charm, ability, courage, beauty, ... she is the living proof of God...like the air, the light of the sun, the water, the fire, ..she is everything and I love her!!! Hey Kath !!! love you . and I only want to be with you
Katherine, brings such emotion to her music, it is simply lovely, a mezzo soprano really works. I personally find it more pleasing then the high sopranos. Well done Katherine. BRAVO!
Her low and top notes are all full, which great. There is no shortage of tenors that cheat the low Ab notes. However, she sings accross the full range in full voice. Great stuff.
This woman can SING AND DANCE!!!!!!! XD She has so much versatility it's mind boggling. Not to mention she's extremely gorgeous! DWTS Season 14 has made me love this woman. lol...
To all those who complain about the "enhanced" and "added" stuff to her voice etc. and that she wouldn't be famous if not for her, well, *cough* incredible and most amazing and lovely looks and her so very much adorable character, I have one thing to say: There is a slight, not very likely but extremely possible, chance that her singing is SO GOOD that she doesn't need the mic or any kind of electronic amplifiers. So good in fact, that she's just put the mic there to be humble? Also, the risk of her amplifying her voice or wearing a mic even though you may not see it in other performances is equal to the chance of her being so awesome, that she has a dummy microphone. If we have to consider her singing with a hidden amplifier; then also consider her singing without a microphone at all. :)
It might not be soft like how we're used to listen this song being sung, but it's so very beautiful!! I got goosebumps.. there's just something really enthralling about the way she's singing. And she's giving meaning to the words, there's so much passion in her performance. Her voice is rich, but not strained, just so nice to the ear, almost like it's from heaven. She sounds and looks like an angel!!
Amazing voice and great performance! High skill I enjoy to hear this song by different voices. Because each person have a different voice. God bless you!!
The song written for Sarah Brightman, by Andre Lloyd Webber, was called "Married Man." All of the lyrics were re-written, and the song, "The Music of the Night," written by Charles Hart, was written to be sung by the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera. It may have been ALW's music, but it was Hart's song.
Katherine ,we are right behind you ,so you are changing record labels. It is hard to believe how one paper can be so vicious .There is no doubt the Daily Mail is out to destroy your career .You dared to stand up to them. You will come out of this stronger .Your fans are loyal .Go girl .
Katherine is the best female singer always, now and then. Her voice is rich, fruity, and golden! She understood the song and made me understand it too. Salutations for the singing queen!
Actually Andrew initially wrote the song for Sarah Brightman and her voice. So it was supposed to be a woman's song in the show. It was only later that they decided to give it to the Phantom instead.
This woman is great! shes young, very beautiful, and sings classical music, shes very Inspiring to young generations. I hope she carries on doing her thing and doesnt stray off into other directions, like Charlotte Church.
Well done Katherine for being awarded the OBE in the Queens new year honours list.Given for you work for charity and supporting the troops abroad as the forces sweetheart .You deserve it
Since this is a tradionally male song, it's actually not a bad idea for a mezzo soprano to sing it. Katherine Jenkins makes it sound more natural than Brightman.
I like very little of Webber's music --- but I wandered here by accident --- and I stayed for the whole performance. You draw me like a magnet and I loved every moment of your voice. Thank-you.
My Dad loved opera. Tenors were his favourite until he saw ( and heard ) Katherine Jenkins. I'm not sure what he liked best about her, but he was a man after all.
Opera greats also perform in grand opera halls with some amplification...Mics are hidden in the floor. You need that because of the orchestra. It would drown even the best out.
Don't pay any attention to the brood of vipers who would try to take this performance down to their level. Katherine's performance was nothing less than brilliant. Sixty million brits think she is incredible, as do I.
She does have a more powerful voice then Sarah's, but it's more clumsy. Sarah's voice is incredibly measured and sweet, Katherine's voice albeit wonderful seems to overpower certain songs, this being one of them. Love Katherine, but Sarah will always be number 1
+1welshdevil Well Sarah is soprano, Katherine is a Mezzo (half soprano) with a heavier voice. Also she tends to lower the key to suit her voice range - but true...although pleasing in a way, this song is not meant for her.
Someone wrote Jackie Evancho ''owns this song forever.'' Nonsense. Adolescents don't own anything except skin conditions. M ichael Crawford introduced it and there are a myriad fine versions.
