we need this Balm in Gilead so badly in 2024 to heal this world that’s in turmoil. Thank you Ms Battle, and Ms Norman for standing on the shoulders of Marion Anderson, who was present to enjoy this ❤️
@@niki-mars955 Our PBS just broadcasted this two days ago. The arranger was a child prodigy playing piano at age two they said. Her arrangements are exquisite. She has a beautiful voice herself too.
So touching hymn and their voices Thanks.. There is a balm in Gilead To make the wounded whole; There is a balm in Gilead To heal the sin-sick soul. Some times I feel discouraged, And think my work’s in vain, But then the Holy Spirit Revives my soul again. If you cannot sing like angels, If you can’t preach like Paul, Go home and tell your neighbor, He died to save us all.
Thank you so much for providing these lyrics. I was about to look them up because I didn't know they were saying "sin-sick." But thanks to you, I have clarification. :-)
I grew up Cathholic and learned this gospel song in the 7th. grade...my hearing is failing me rapidly and can not hear them sing their joy is enough for m....I love this song !!!!
THank you so much for posting this. My two favourite singers of that era and two of the great voices of the century, singing together. I remember vividly watching the concert on PBS when it first aired, and then rushing out to buy the CD when it became available. I was lucky enough to hear them on their own, singing with orchestra and in recitals, where they sometimes sang spirituals as part of the concerts. But to hear them together as they were here was a thrill, in such beautiful arrangements. Battle's silvery, angelic tone and Norman's warm, Earth Mother sound worked together so well. Brava. Still brings tears after all these years. From this concert, Battle's "Lord How Come me Here" was also one of her great performances ever.
Wow! I was looking for this song done in a Capella or larger group to really hear harmonies. But I got to say this was just Wow. Beautiful performance. I will be sharing!
Try this one: I fell in love with it! I was asked to sing this at my husband’s uncle’s funeral and he loved opera and I grew up listening to Kathleen Battle but I really loved this a capella version I found as well! Enjoy! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8fcMxI_6xsk.html
Thousands of years ago the question cried out was, is there a balm in Gilead and thousands of years later a people enslaved in America declared yes there is a balm in Gilead. Bless you Yahweh and our saviour Yahshua.
After all the somewhat distracting aspects of the exquisite singing of this beautiful hymn are set aside, and i just listen to the beauty, there IS something that is most important: YES, GLORY TO GOD!, THERE IS A BALM IN GILEAD! ☦☦☦
3/1/1991. It used to be available on VHS, but no DVD has been issued so far. I think this was taped from a PBS showing of the concert. I have played the CD thousands of times over the years.
