Lucia Popp is and remains unrivaled perfection in this vocal part, too! While I'm definitely not a fan of Kathleen Battle, I also have to acknowledge that she's really great here...
Well, some begrudging comments here. Quite undeserving considering the fabulous performance by miss Battle IMO. Her alleged diva ‘personality’ never fails to be mentioned either, as if any of us knows her at all. No white star has ever seen her career curtailed for similar alleged antics.
@@Musicdok I would like to know what was wrong or offensive about my comment?! I just wrote that I'm not a fan of Kathleen Battle, but I still think this recording of her is very good and impressive.
Dropping the jaw all the way down, and drawing the lower lip back inside the mouth. It's her lower teeth and gums that cause the bulge, not her tongue.
Sawtooth technique.... as what my voice teacher calls it... it's a technique to "throw" the voice forward.. kind of like maximizing the voice overall... maximizing overtones, etc.,. a crazy and an unsafe technique if not done properly... it's not really taught often.
@@baritoneblazzin1965 indeed she does that omg I wouldnt have noticed if u guys hadnt mentioned this... besides sawtooth does this technique have an official name?
@@LohengrinO honestly I do not know the name of it officially or if it even has an official title but I do know that its based on how Battle's voice projects (how she approaches notes, *ping* power (squillo), timbral sound, etc.,) based on what my voice teacher has told me it's like a whole another technique of projecting the voice had been exclusively designed for Battle in aiding her being heard. Sawtooth is simply a phrase of the mouth positioning- upper mouth forward while the lower mouth is covering the lower teeth fronts by the lower lips- it allows the airflow to travel at a more heightened speed forward but in a slightly more upward position thus making the vocal projection kind of like having a *lift* when projecting
