RIP Kathy Kirby (1938-2011) Known as the "Golden Girl of Pop", Kathy Kirby had her own TV show and at one time was the highest paid female singer in Britain. In 1965 she was chosen to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest. "One Day" was one of 5 songs the viewing public would vote on for the one tune she would sing in the contest. "One Day" lost out to "I Belong", but it's still a fine song. Written by Chris Andrews.

Sounds like Vera Lynn. Very nice phrasing, and a great voice.

She was for a while the highest paid female star in the UK. She sold herself short by settling for a much older man who ultimately ruined her and her career she became reclusive after his death I believe he gambled her fortune away. A lovely singer

Yes, Bert Ambrose. He was a compulsive gambler who was losing most of her earnings in London casinos and clubs. It was only after he died in 1971 that Kathy discovered he had lost £5million of her money. Unfortunately after Ambrose's death, she was declared bankrupt and lived in poverty for most of her life.

I wonder how this would have done at Eurovision had it won through the UK heats instead of I Belong

Good question! Maybe a year or two earlier it would have been a winner but I suspect by '65 tastes were changing. it's very much late 50's,early 60s song in my mind. Great song though, beautifully sung by the great Kathy.
