She certainly was! VERY smart. Way, way WAY more articulate than, I'd say, 99.9% of all humans! Esp. now. What a WRETCHED BUMMER of a story re Da Great Gawd Showbiz. She sure deserved better!
Simon Reed was just playing devils advocate with his questions and obviously liked her and she him. "a sweet angel. Kathy came across very well. She was treated badly in her life." 👍
I am one of the Kirbys, and she had a great voice, and she sounds to me a like a victim of so much bad management in the music business. The interviewer is good as he tried to elicit all the truth. I think Kathy is remembered fondly.
01:24 During the clip, she shows an incredible breath control. I studied opera for a half-century, my voice is noplace near her presentation. She makes it look effortless. . Afrikan vocalist and story-teller Roger Whittaker is another effortless singer... ... after years of practice.
Kathy was groomed by Ambrose. He controlled everything, and gambled her money away. She had no idea what she earned. She was the best female singer in this country by far. Bless her, x
WOW. So ironic, given that "Secret Love''s" original singer, Doris Day, had the EXACTL same thing happen to her! Both blondes, too. Doris Day, one of my favorite humans beings in history -- and her animal foundation!! RIP, Doris Day, always. and RIP, Kathy. Both SO betrayed by evil men. Siiigh ... Bless their valliant spirits.
She was a fantastic performer, brilliant voice and everymans dream...mis managed and not taken care of,many took advantage of her kind nature.A legend...one star i wished i had seen.❤️
I think that few people may not know that her niece is Lady Thatcher as she is married to Margaret’s son, Sir Mark Thatcher, just saying. Kathy was very much underestimated in her lifetime, she had the sweetest voice and battled her way through adversity…
I think her last her last record to be released was called "HE" (1981) I listen to it, it sounded very dated as if it could have been recorded back in the mid 60's if she is taking advice she is listening to the wrong people. in 1981 at the time of this interview she was still a relatively a young woman yet she still had the same hair do she had in the 60's and that goes for her clothing too. She needed to reinvent herself with good song writing talent, with up to date music. Without this she didn't stand a chance to revamp herself.
Outstanding special talent BUT her voice and style was stuck in the 40s and 50s pre rock and roll era, which in the 60s was still a great alternative to rock and roll, and still sought after at that time. However the 70s pitched up and changed all that .The song she promotes in this 1981 clip (although superbly sang) is a prime example of being out of step with the times . by 1981 it was nostalgia value at best. She could have and should have eclipsed many 70 and 80s artists.. but followed a pattern and style that was dead in the water for the numbers needed to make a hit.
@@Stevescafidi-km3td ??? You can cherry pick what ever music you like now, its all on youtube. I was talking about being popular enough to sell millions of records, and some reason why that popularity can fade, I also said she was an outstanding special talent. It was not a personal attack on you, unlike your reply to me. You shouldn't take youtube comments so personally.
The job of a journalist is discovering the truth. Through his questions, we see her strength and resilience... and grace. Could that happen if the interviewer was president of her fan-club?
He could have taken a different approach and tone for the interview...i guess before an interview you meet your guest...bad judgement...maybe to eager to 'score'..
Stephen, The job of a journalist is discovering the truth. During this discussion, we witness the strength and resilience of Kirby. Would that happen if the interviewer was president of her fan-club?
Interesting. It certainly doesn't seem to be the impression that KK's face is showing, especially at the end. I thought he was rather gentle, and as sincere as she seemed to be.
She was a very talented singer with a very powerful, pure sounding voice. No posh spice here! If you have never heard her sing, go to You Tube and listen to Secret Love. Her voice is brilliant. As a child I remember her on TV and my dad liking her. She trademarked wet shiny lips. I'm guessing the lipstick was red because we only had a black and white TV then.
