Katica Illényi - theremin Budapest Strings Title: Only you Composer: B. Ram Recorded on 2016 January 1st New Year Concert / Concierto de Año Nuevo, Grand Ballroom, Budapest www.katicaillen... / katicaillenyiofficial info@ikpmusic.com
Dr. Termen who invented the instrument was a physics professor at Moscow State University when I was a student there. He also was responsible for granting free access to to musical instruments owned by the University. Like if students wanted to organize a band, they had to perform for him, and he decided whether they were worthy of touching the state-owned property :)
As well as its (arguably over-)use in science fiction, you'd be surprised where it crops up - the Beach Boys, for example, in one of their greatest tracks. Wikipedia probably will tell you lots.
Outstanding! I'm constantly amazed at the songs that can be successfully and righteously performed on a theremin. And of course it takes the skill of a master to accomplish it. Bravo!
I absolutely love the theremin! In the right hands it sounds so eerily natural yet artificial, somewhat like a mimic stuck in the uncanny valley while desperately trying to become human, and I find that to be so beautiful. I don’t think there is another instrument with so much personality 💞 Bravo Katica 🫶🏼
The hands become capacitive between the signal of the two antennas. The right hand controls pitch. The close to the right antenna, the higher the note. Moving hand or fingers in and out controls vibrato. Left hand controls volume which allows dynamics. Simple in terms of function. Crazy complicated in application. Sort of like a trombone. You don't know where the notes are until you play a note and adjust the pitch to hit the note by ear.
Only you, Katica...play the Theremin so beautifully so wonderfully so Perfect....thank you so much for all your wonderful hard work for you amazing and beautiful talents!
I was impressed by the composition that does not break the atmosphere of music. The great violinist of the live image Thermin 's performance is wonderful.
Not that you will see this Katica, but you were one of the people who inspired me to play the theremin, (if you do not want to read a whole essay skip this comment.) when I was 8 the Clara Rockmore google doodle came out (2016) and being the 8-year-old I was, I decided to play it. I was so amazed and I wondered how this music was made. then almost 5 years later I googled *Clara Rockmore* wanting to listen to her work. this was the moment I realised I fell in love with the instrument. I asked my parents for my birthday if they could get a theremin, and they did. So i watched a few beginner videos on youtube and learnt the basic chords. then after I learnt that I decided to expand my range of theremin players, I came across this exact work of yours. and yet we are here today, me writing this comment, hoping you will see this. I am here to thank you, Katica, for making my life worth something. PS The good news is I now play in my school band, I play the theremin! Lots of love O.W❤❤
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It’s just not possible not to admire your talent! BRAVO!
Which is more beautiful? Katica's playing or Katica herself? That was amazing - the final note was sublime, and then the vibrato added, just topped it off.
This must be the archetypal example of a professional making something difficult look ridiculously easy. I am spellbound just watching and listening and, judging by Katica's obvious delight, she enjoys holding us spellbound with the smallest movements of her delicate fingers. I do hope she has someone to do her washing up. Her fingers are amongst the most precious fingers on the planet. Fairy Godmothers have some clever tricks; but I am sure that they would be keen to add this skill to their repertoire.
I had never heard of this instrument, THEREMIM, and I was impressed, not only with the way the sound comes out, but with KATICA ILLÉNYI's ability to play it!!! FASCINATING!!! I confess that it gave me a certain distress, because I would not be able to keep movements so smooth and precise - I would only be able to play a Rock on it!!!
