When did you first realise there was something not quite right about Tom Cruise & Scientology?

The mere fact she had to “escape” says everything one needs to know about Scientology.

Katie was very lucky to have a high-powered divorce lawyer for a father. Not all people who want to leave have such support.

As someone related by marriage to L. Ron, and whose husband went face to face with "church" lawyers more than once in court, I'm amazed Katie escaped. Doing so is harder than you think, and I can only think she's courageous, resourceful, and psychologically strong beyond belief. People within the church have disappeared and are still missing 10, 20, 50 years later. Miscavige's own wife began to question things and disappeared not long after. She hasn't been seen now for fifteen years. Going further back, the same thing happened to one of L. Ron's daughters. And the church is incredibly petty, going to great lengths to ruin the lives of little-known people for tiny offenses. They will kidnap, move into towns and pose as locals to destroy peoples' businesses...for a start. Nicole and Katie were saved only because they weren't yet completely under the church's thumb, and their fame afforded them some protection from overt harm. They couldn't just be made to disappear. I imagine they've both been through hell. Their stories would be fascinating but we'll never hear them.

To think that Holmes had to literally escape from cruise is chilling to me.

Katy Said she was going to NYC for a job, and registered Suri in school. No NYC judge would pull Suri out of school, so that left Katie with Custody. This was part of Katie's dad's plan to get them out.

Katie is also very lucky she has a close and supportive family including a father with a sharp mind who weren't blinded by their daughter marrying a huge movie star and could help her.

It's safe to say, Scientology underestimated Katie and her ability to stand up to him and them! GO KATIE!

Her father is an attorney in Toledo, Ohio not New York. He is very, very good and was responsible for saving his daughter.

We could all see that something was creepy about their relationship, but I just chalked it up to being a fake publicity romance. They never looked natural together. It was stiff and awkward. Wasn’t until after the fact that I realized how much danger she was in.

Brave woman. She jumped the wall and escaped "the compound". She had the full force of that sick cult, and outsmarted Cruise. She was motivated by her need to protect his daughter, and avoid Kidmans fate. Bravo Katie Holmes for escaping and rejecting the power of Cruise and Scientology.

With burner phones, she let her dad know where she was. She went for a jog in Central Park. Her father was waiting in an unmarked car. As soon as she was within distance, she ran for her life with Siri and swooped into the vehicle. I remember. I was living in NYC. My husband was a fashion photographer.

I have a friend who left that cult almost 30 years ago and they still try to find that individual.

I really like her. I'm sorry she got caught up in this mess in the first place...although I know it gave her her daughter. I do think it cost her the career she would have had otherwise. Hi. About the story of the girl picked out for him before Katie, I read that they tried to change practically everything about her, her hair, her wardrobe, everything. Then she , she moved in with Tom and one night, she had a horrible migraine, and I use to suffer from them and they're horrible, and I heard that Miscavige was visiting Tom and they wanted to do something but she had to excuse herself, and that's why she ended up scrubbing toilets with a toothbrush. I think that MIke Rinder is aware of this story. Reading his book now. Can't wait for him to reveal some secrets. Love your show.

My mother-in- law was a pediatric nurse in Clearwater Florida. When the scientologists gave birth in the hospital where she worked the nurses were not allowed to pick up the infants when they cried. They were forced to just listen to them cry and not allowed to sooth them in anyway. What a bunch of nutcases.

I loved Chris’s definition of a cult verses a not cult. For example most cults are very easy to get into and very difficult to get out of. Sometimes your life may even be threatened if you dare to leave. A run of the mill group or religion should be difficult to join, standards should have to be met (and not the fact that you are rich, famous or influential). If you don’t meet the standards, you can’t join. If you do join, walking away is your choice, with no strings attached. Sure you may be encouraged to remain but you are free to leave anytime.

Katie saved her and Suri's lives and is a HERO. After the divorce, Katie made sure paparazzi always got her photos with Suri so that Scientology couldn't "disappear" her & Suri like they did with Shelley Miscaviage! This took a lot of planning, intelligence, determination and bravery on Katie's part. Scientology groomed her and literally interviewed potential girlfriends for Tom which is how they even found her in the first place. Ofc they pretended they were seeking an actress for a movie role to work with Tom at the time and when they found Katie and learned she had posters on Tom on her bedroom wall when she was young bc she idolized him so much, they figured Katie would be a perfect fit. Sick. Tom hadn't seen Suri since 2012 and has already turned Nicole's children against their mother, Nicole. Katie saw this and knew she had to fight to protect her daughter so she did send thankfully, she made it out okay! The whole thing is horrifying and shows how evil this CULT is! Tom is a deadbeat BUM who chose a cult over his own child. He's pathetic and a sorry excuse of a human being.

So are you saying that Katie just "discovered randomly", and the romance was real? That could not be accurate. What I do think is possible is that his first wife Mimi Rogers who bought him into Scientology, and happened to appear in one episode of the final season of Dawson's Creek, the teen soap with her as the central character. I wouldn't be surprised, if that was remembered and hey presto, a couple of years later, along cones baby and marriage. Her Dad did the pre-nup and was on top of it from the start. She was originally raised Catholic and was waiting for marriage before swiping her v card...so her parents were not happy that she got pregnant out of Wedlock, but were always there to support her. There was a stipulation in the settlement that if they were ever to divorce, she could not have a public relationship for 5 years. Hence her and Jamie Foxx (Cruises friend, Co star and similar age gap), only being seen in public on the beach, restaurants etc, in 2017. The other clever move with Katie, was the filing for divorce in New York. She was mainly a Broadway/theatre girl at heart, AND most importantly for her, NY courts favour full custody to the mother in general. Career progression check. Daughter safety check. Nice with plenty of museums, galleries and attractions. She pulled it off like a champ! ALLEGEDLY, IMHO YADA YADA!

How was it possible the K Holmes didn’t understand what the risk was when she began dating Tom Cruise? My understanding about Cruise not seeing his daughter (Suri) is that she’s not his daughter. Evidently, Cruise is sterile (unk cause)… and the baby was fathered by Chris Klein. Timeline seemed to back that up in terms of when Holmes & Klein ‘broke up’ immediately prior to Cruise swooping in. Don’t know… but that’s my understanding it that.

Katt also had to stay "single in the public eye." That's why she and Jamie Fox weren't seen together for several years, it was part of the agreement.

I wonder if her father has some files that Tom nor scientology want exposed. He must have used something as a bargaining chip to get such a quick divorce.
