Often times, when people say you never know what might happen, it's true; but if someone tells you that might beat her, it's just not remotely believable or possible. Just got done watching her at Stanford and she won the 1650m by 22 seconds. Of which, that girl who got 2nd place at Standford in that race is as fast if not faster than the people getting second at these Olympics who are competing against Katie. The person who lost this race did so by 27 seconds, a difference of 5 seconds. 5 seconds is more than what most anyone gives up in just 150m. Katie gained about 3 seconds for ever 150m over the 2nd place finisher in this race.
@@alexhodge5327 She hasn't failed a drug test, and usually athletes of her level get them regularly. Katie isn't on drugs, she's just extremely blessed and works her ass of to where she is now.
Unless you are a swimmer or know someone who competes you have no idea how hard what she just did was or how hard they work every day. Her technique was flawless. That’s why she is so much better than most of the others. Just like Michael Phelps was.
This is just strange to watch. This is what it looks like when people at the Y swim against olympic swimmers. Except its Olympic swimmers she's racing against.
When I do the 1500, I lose count all the time, so I help myself keep count by alternating the 100’s with the flutter kick and the “sort of 2-beat kick” that she’s doing. I thought I was doing it wrong and then I saw her technique and thought.. okay I’m in good company. But er.. compared to her I’m like a row boat against a speed boat.
Anybody know why the 1500m isn't part of the Olympics for the women? I've never understood that, and Rowdy Gaines on NBC thinks it's absolutely crazy that it's not on the Olympic program. Katie would surely have another gold medal.
The announcers were wrong lmao. Addlington's British record was 8:14.10 in the 800meter. The 8:11 they were referring to was one of Ledecky's old world records in the 800
She doesn't kick very often. Swim coaches for years have stressed that swimmers kick as hard as they can. I never kicked much when I swam, but that was because I had to think about it and I always forgot. I just let my arms do most of the pulling.
My local aquatic center had long days today,,,so it was my first time swimming 50m one way. That helps me put 1500m into perspective and can appreciate this feat. Shout out to anyone who can swim 1500m straight. I’m maybe going 1000m-2000m over the course of 4 hours in 25m lanes,, including breaks, water, bathroom , I’m working my way up and I’m excited to try the 50m long days again!! Every Tuesday and Thursday :)
Wow, this Performance was absolutely perfect!!! Pure Dominance, All Great Performances Overall, though Katie Ledecky is "Super Woman", of the Pool 🇨🇦🇺🇸
LOL me too! Let me know if you find out! Makes listening just as much fun as watching. The spirit of sport, and you can hear how happy they are for her.
Superhuman. I mean these are the best swimmers in the entire world she is competing against, and she absolutely annihilates the field. It looks like an Olympian swimming against a bunch of middle schoolers.
Absolutely amazing and ground...water breaking. She can’t turn it off. Astoundingly impressive and motivational. I just received two more steroid injections in my spine and I watch her races everyday as I recoup and recover and get stronger in the pool everyday. Role model and inspiring. I grew up with women in my life and in tv being my influencers. I’m 36 and it continues! Much love and appreciation! 🤘🤙😍👌💪🔥✌️
When a once-in-a-generation talent demolishes the competition like that and breaks her own world record, goddamn right nobody gives a fuck about second place. How can you when you can barely even see the other swimmers, they're so far behind Ledeck?! It's not chauvinism when you're really the best.
Did you not watch the little red line across the screen where she was on pace to beat the world record I guarantee you every other swimmer in the water was pulling as hard for her as they were for themselves.
Ledecky's 800m split in 1500m race is faster than everyone racing 800m free at the Olympics. She could win two 800m races back to back without any rest lol
What I want to see is Katie Ledecky and Michael Phelps go head to head in a 400 m Freestyle and the one who wins must give the other 1 of their gold medals for 30 days. THAT would be a sight to see.and besides, 30 days is plenty of time to brag and gloat over
+Profanity ? Oh for sure. If anything its that impressive that she would be around 30th among men considering the physical advantages men have. She's easily the best female swimmer I've ever seen.
Zain K I do think that Ledecky could win if the race was 1500m though, just because she is more accustomed to distance while Phelps is more of a sprinter
Come on! Janet was like 5'5" and about 120lbs when she raced. Ledecky is 5'10 and 155lbs. They were both teenagers when they they set the world records! I wonder how they would have performed against each other if they had raced together??
+atiboyful Ledecky is an extremely talented swimmer. Maybe she's bigger, but that doesn't mean much. It is not as if Ledecky is a one-shot-wonder. She has done this repeatedly. Someone better will always come along. Katie is proving herself better. That doesn't lessen Evans. Evans is still the fantastic swimmer she always was (in the eyes of history. I doubt she's still as fantastic physically as she was in her swimming prime.) If anything, it simply is an example of someone else continuing a fantastic legacy of proving all of the nay-sayers wrong when they say someone is too young.
don't get me wrong!~ Ledecky is a HUGE talent and I hope I live long enough (55) to see her continue to improve on her WR's. I guess I am being nostalgic here and Janet was my early heartthrob in women's swimming! I am warming up to Katie now and she seems to be picking up the torch that Evans left! Can't wait for Rio!
***** Glad to hear it! :) Ledecky is a huge inspiration for me, and she's from around the place I lived when she went to the Olympics, so she was a local hero of sorts.
I wonder if she has ever thought about doing open water 10k as well, that is usually a few days after the pool swimming is done. Galen Rupp was a 5k and 10k runner, until he ran his first ever marathon at trials, and is second ever in Rio, where he got the bronze, there is always the possibility.
