I bought one of these 2 years ago and ended up fitting it to a table, it works really well. Trouble was after a few weeks I missed having it for all the other jobs I used if for. I ended up buying a second one!! yes they are that good. The cost of two of them is still less than the price of one of the better known makes. I am happy!!!!

I think one reason people love these so much is that (being a clone) they can use the Makita bases and they make quite a few different ones.

I've had one in my router table for a few years. Like you I've also got a bigger plunge router for the heavier jobs. I liked the Katsu that much that I recently bought another one to save me messing about with the router table. At that price, it's a no brainer.

I’ve had the same trim router for 4 years. I’m a jobbing joiner and it gets use every week and has never let me down. Yes, it has its limitations (you aren’t going to be routing worktops with this kit), but four putting a simple round over on, rebates, grooves etc it is THE best value tool I own. Buy it.

After watching you review a few days ago I went to see if we could get the Katsu here in the states and could not find it but I did find an Ultimate force router by costway. It arrived today and came with all the attachments you mention plus a fixed base and plunge base. The only difference I can see between the Katsu and this on is the 3 bolt holes you mention in the Router T-track vid. Glad to see all these good comments, I sure hope this one holds up like the Katsu.

@CasualDIY

Depends if you will make a jig for it or use a fence system. If so then a straight bit with a bearing so it will guide the bit on the jig or fence. If no jig or fence and you will just eyeball it then a normal straight bit.

Great intro to the Katzu router. I received one yesterday, bought on Amazon. Gave a quick test with great results already! One issue is that the dust extractor doesn't fit any of my shop vacs.... I tried to find the attachment you mention in the vid but can't find them online. Again, great video and thanks for posting.

Available here in Italy on Amazon for 59€ (basic kit) or 95€ (full kit). There's also a 18V battery version at 110€. Cheaper than the cheaper Makita 3709 model but not that much if you can find it at 70€ as I did last year. It seems that all the attachments from Katsu and Makita are exchangeable. Obviously, they pay different prices but I'm not so sure they ACTUALLY are different. I've just seen the Makita-branded plunge basis on Amazon: it is cheap but it's also quite "suspect", despite the Makita branding on it. E.g. it has the same "bolt" depth stops and in the purchasers' comments we can find the same kind of complaints (most common is the depth fine gauge moving because of vibrations.)

@@CasualDIY In this case, yes. But not necessarily true in every country. It also depends on local taxes (VAT is higher in Italy) and, above all, commercial situation. DIY market is much smaller here than in UK (maybe UK is the biggest DIY market outside USA), so volumes are smaller and thus - I suppose - costs/prices higher.

Yes that could be true. But still a shame, the prices should be relatively the same in my opinion.

@@CasualDIY If you consider "substance", yes. But, as I learnt in my marketing studies, in modern times, prices mostly reflect marketing factors, and mostly how much the client is available to spend. With little - and sometimes even none - relation with the product's content. I always take the example of a certain city car, sold in Italy in red colour as "basic" and in white as an extra cost. In Germany, the same car was sold in white as "basic" and in red as an extra. Does it seem absurd? Well, it's just because Germans love vivid colours while white was a fashionable colour in Italy (where red is just for sports cars).

But is it a rip off of the Kakita? I think its the same machine and Mukita are ripping people off. Would one you youtubers do a breakdown comparison! Think I'll ask AVE to do one. 😕

This is a 'no-name' Chinese product (surprise there, huh ?) branded under many different names, all with slightly different accessories. Brands, in Amazon USA, include Goplus, Volltek, Mohorn, Trimmer, Avtbeisty, Dobetter, and Avid. Only the Goplus and the Mophorn offered the advanced add-on bases. The Katsu brand WAS only available in Australia, but has been discontiued.

Katsu was and to my knowledge still is available in the UK. I bought mine on UK Amazon with normal arrival window of few days. For me it seemed a rip of from Makita trim router.

3/8 is bigger than 1/4, not smaller. Luckily no one uses imperial measurements any more....

Good morning young man, Ive had my Katsu about a year now and I think its a great bit of kit. I did send away for a clear base for it and would not be without it for carving letters. Thanks for another video stay safe...purchased for here. woodworkersworkshop.co.uk/collections/clearview-design
