a musician is a real musician when he/she can perform something without amplifier and other technical equipment. katzenjammer girls obviously can.

@synkyb Don't think so, I guess Solveig (the blonde) is playing a Dobra (three-stringed russian instrument, ancestor of the balalaika). Turid (girl on the left playing the intro-melody) plays a mandolin. Then there's Anne Marit on the right playing the banjo and Marianne playing the Bass Balalaika.

Whatever sound quality you may listen to on digital audio can be a product of cleanup by professionals. On the other hand Live performance of good music is a rare talent which even great rockstars lack. Katzenjammer is a great live band like Friendly Fire.

The bad sound is called a bad microphone. The girls' voices are certainly powerful enough to fill a room.

look at solveig's left hand on the domra. that thing only has three strings and she's using four fingers. i tend to use one finger to fret chords on a six-string guitar. clearly i have a lot to learn about music

Could anyone tell me, what all those instruments are called? I just know the bass (the third; from left to right) and the banjo (the fourth). Thanks und please excuse my mistakes. I´m form germany and english was my worst subject at school. ;)

@exentr: indeed. It's an old German word (today mostly changed to Kater = tomcat) to describe a hangover. Can't translate it to Norsk though, sorry ;) (btw, Katzenjammer literally means "cat's lament".)

The nearest in norweigian lanuage katzenjammer means kat song(meny cat´s song) in the backyard,there are the word jammer in norwegian lanuage

Sound = bad Performance = so awesome! Katzenjammer simply means terrible music in german... they use it ironically. Because their music is so cool man. Check out Wikipedia for correct definition.
