I went there for a day many years ago. I had a great tour guide who told us the history of it. She was amazing. I loved the cane fields where a movie was made. I loved all that I experienced there. It was like a bit of Heaven. Oh, I'd like to return. :)
WOW what an incredible day! I'd love to do a guided tour next time. Sounds like that was the best way for you to make the most of the time you spent there! :) And I'm with you, I'd like to return too!
@@Katiemomo Yes it was incredible. I took a plane from Oahu for just one day but what a day. I'll never forget the great sites and I simply loved every minute. I saw an amazing banyan tree on a beach where we also ate lunch on the back porch of a colonial looking restaurant. The sand was colored, not white sand. That part took me to bright and sweet places in my mind. I was alone that day but a lovely young PA couple hung out with me.
@@Katiemomo Yes, make one if you go back. I went to Maui years ago for three days. I love it too. I went down the Hana Highway. Wow, such views! I love Maui too.
Hi everyone, my favourite part of the island is Hanalei - I stayed at Hanalei Bay Resort and the pool was one of the most beautiful pools i've ever seen and the view from our room was astounding. My tip is not to visit northern Kauai in the winter as it does rain most days, so save the trip for the later summer months. We also got a traditional lomi lomi massage from Angeline's - this way you get a true traditional experience rather than just a spa or beauty salon
I like the idea of checking in at the Marriott for the last day. The early checkout/late flight combo from Hawaii makes it tempting to spend the day at the beach, but I'd like to be clean on the airplane. Love it! Great video!
Rochelle Bartschi I’d absolutely do that again! It makes the jaunt home so much more enjoyable. Plus the Marriott resort grounds are lovely - beach, pool, whatever you’re looking for. Thanks for the comments, have an amazing trip!!!
2:44 I was there in july! Uhhh I miss Kauai, I wanna go back! Honestly the places that you shown I've been to most of them, there so beautiful! Great video:)
In the 1980s I was visiting Honolulu, When it was unexpectedly announced that the crew of a very large U.S. Ware ship all 3,000 of them would be taking shore leave, I was on recover, And decided that the naval seamen would need lots of room, I would have to find some where else to recover, There was a tourist service operated by Hawaiian native women, They were supper eficant, They agreed with me, And suggested Kawai, They rearranged my booking, + A car for 5 days in Kawai. This was all done 5 minutes. It was a magical visit.
Jack Duffy wow what an amazing story! Lol I could imagine 3000 people would make a BIG difference on that island. (Love Oahu too btw!) How great that everyone pulled together to help you out! And *score* on getting to see Kauai too. Thanks for sharing! ❤️🌊
Thanks for taking the time for making a fun and informative vid. Yeah I read about the roosters someone said years ago roosters were caged but high winds came up knocked them over setting the roosters free and the rest is history. . That's what they say thanks again
Definitely get the "Revealed" book - I have been going to Kauai for 20+ years and still find new and great things to do in this book! I started with the 3rd edition and they are now on the 10th edition. Enjoy the garden island!!
They are the BEST!!! I wish they had a line of books outside of Hawaii because they are my favorite travel books ever! (But I don't blame them for never wanting to leave Hawaii lol :)
I wish I could speak to that Jada! I'm probably not the best to comment on it as I haven't any experience in that regard. (Though I would have loved the chance!) What I can say is - I'd heard Kauai is the friendliest Hawaiian island, and I thought ALL of them were friendly... but it IS especially true for Kauai! People are lovely, open, and relaxed. The kids are more talented in any water sport than I'll ever be! It's such a cool opportunity to move there - I'd love the experience!
@Andrew Bacon Andrew, I understand why you would say that. Here's what I would say, especially considering I've been to Kauai 10 times and know all of Hawaii very well: If I lived there, I wouldn't want a zillion people moving there either. HOWEVER, the problem with that is.....it's part of the U.S., which means people are free to come and go, regardless of their heritage. Also, since tons of people live there and RENT, now OWN, they really don't have a say as to whether or not others can do the same. As you know, most folks come there and rent, which means they technically don't OWN any property, which means they really have no say as to who comes and goes. I hope this makes sense. I love all of Hawaii (especially Kauai), and I know if I lived there I wouldn't want a zillion people either. The island is being stomped on by commercial investors, and that makes me so sad. So I guess my point is that.....if anyone is renting there, they have no say about the influx. Whoever OWNS makes more sense that they'd be upset about people flooding into the island. I hope this all makes sense. :)
We went to Kauai earlier this year and absolutely loved it! We have a video featuring some of these similar places. Our favorite was Tunnel's Beach by far
Trying to find something week of April 15 1 week stay. Family of 3 . Where should we stay ? Trying to be somewhat economical. But have a good first time . How do we make it a great first time experience ?! 👍🏽
Kauai seems to be super family friendly! It's not the most economical island - def get a condo or something you can make your meals at home because eating out is expensive (and I even found the groceries pricey). Try somewhere on south shore for the best weather. I would go with something like VRBO, HomeAway, or one of the other 'rent home/condo' sites for something like that! :) Have a wonderful trip.
Aloha to you from beautiful tropical garden island 🏝 of Kauai. Many thanks for the video. I am living in this island since 1990 .One of the most beautiful island on the planet. Covered tick rainforest all island and very green . Also one if the most safest place in all America 🇺🇸. Truly paradise on the planet..Here never boring, many coffee shops. ☕ snorkeling, hiking and so many thinks 🌴 🌞 🌹 ❤
Thanks for the video. This will be our sixth year in a row going to Kauai. Never knew about the day rate at the Marriott. We'll have to check that out!!!
It's definitely a place worth going back to again and again! Those redeye flights are a killer. That last day at the Marriot made it so much more enjoyable! A good nap and a pre-flight swim is awesome. Have fun on your next trip!! :)
Ohmigawsh have a pina colada for meeeee!!! It’s so beautiful, you will have an amazing time with your friends. I’m in Orlando right now :) love traveling!
Been there on a vacation trip after a cruise to Hawaii on the Pride of Aloha back then and my fave spot is the Dole Plantation where I got a pineapple popsicle. Then went on a tour to see the filming location of the Jurassic Park dino stampede.
Thank you so much for letting me know you enjoyed it Lena, it means a lot to me! You're going to have an AMAZING time - wish I was going back! Toast the sunset for me :D
Of the 1,327,728 videos about Kauai, yours is the best. I thought for sure you would include the lighthouse. I have been to Kauai many times on business, so it cost me nothing. Lovely island. Kauai... island of love.
Wow, thank you so much Dwight! I totally appreciate it. LOL I think you've got a good situation going on there with work, I need to do more business in Kauai... I knew something was missing from my life! There's still things on my list for next time, I always appreciate a recommendation :)
LifeWith Ramona Awww love that! Always good vibes here ❤️ You and your mom are going to have an AMAAAAZING time! Thank you for your message, I can’t wait to visit Switzerland one day 😊
Great video! Just got back from what was supposed to be a week stay, but we came back after 3 days due to an emergency. The time spent there was simply magical! Our favorite was Kipu Ranch...got to see lots of movie sites. Already planning a return trip for next year...and will definitely visit our favorite dessert spot, Loco Coco Shaved Ice in Poipu!. So yummy and the owner is a jem!
Oh my goodness I'm so sorry to hear about the emergency Jennifer, I hope everything is OK now! Mmm oh my gosh I could ab-so-lutely go for some shaved ice right now! I will have to check it out when I go back. I had it at Jo-Jos and it was delish - it takes a long time to get, but worth it. Thanks for the tip about Kipu Ranch! Looks really fun! Next time I would loooove to do a heli tour too. Spectacular scenery everywhere you look!
I wish, wish wish.. I could go to Kauai! I love it, it is the real heaven! Plus that.. That it is my favorite place on earth! I wish i could go there!... But my mom says i have to be adult, to go there! Which sucks in my opinion.. Well it is a perfect guide you have made.Aloha! :)
@ Aaron I lived in Waimea then Kekaha for almost 4 years while working at the base, I have no idea what you're talking about. The locals made me feel very very welcome. Perhaps the locals treated you like a jerk because YOU were acting like a jerk tourist ...like I said, almost 4 years and NO issues.
It’s worth the wait. I always dreamed of visiting Hawaii when i was younger and not to brag but now my family and I are very fortunate to visit once a year for summer vacation. We love it. We love the locals.
thanks for the video...we are going to Kauai from Dec 25th-30th and cannot wait. We are taking our 2 year old with us. Any tips on activities which are safe with 2 year old child?
That's great! Have a wonderful time. I'm not too familiar with child-friendly activities but there were lots of children there so there must be some good options for you! Safe travels!
Sonia Chavez hey there! I don’t remember exactly where we stayed in Poipu, but we rented either a condo or timeshare so we could cook at home. I think that would be helpful!
No worries, not a big deal :) Oh and also it's cool that you pronounced Poipu the correct traditional way! A lot of locals don't even have that pronunciation down @@Katiemomo
Madeleine Wilson pronunciation is so tricky! I always try and ask people before. Sometimes it works, other times not so much. Kauai is magic, no matter what the name! 😊
Thank You The Officer told Me to Go North after they were here explaining to Me about a restraining order Thanks SCPD You are so sweet ! I told them that I was leaving tonight anyway He Questioned who set up the trip ? I told him My Portuguese Girlfriend The officer said to Me Why today" I do not know I have not even met her yet I really hope that she does not steal Your personal credit card identities"" I do not think that she will I trust her I gave her cash Now I have to take syringes I think that I have diabetes Carpcreekrobert
I just got back from 3 weeks in Hawaii, 1 week was just for Kauai. I highly recommend going on a helicopter flight. We flew with Blue Hawaiian. The scenery was so spectacular!! There were the longest waterfalls I have ever seen. It was an amazing and very highly recommended thing to do.
Jennifer Crum thank you for the tip!! It looks amazing, in the list for next time 😊 I was just watching a video about a heli tour on Big Island, looks pretty amazing around the volcano too (though maybe when it’s a little less active!)
Yes the chickens were accidentally released in the hurricane of '92, no they are not a status symbol but rather an annoyance, in fact you can buy "stupid chicken" shirts almost anywhere. We were even jokingly asked if we'd brought a gun to take care of them by a local store owner!
That's awesome! I'll be there in spirit... I could def use a bit of island time riiiiight now. Agreed, those books are fantastic! Have you tried the app too? Really handy!
Hi! I think they just call it Kaua'i Marriot Resort. It's on Rice St and is super close to the airport! We booked day of but it sounded like it was unusual to get a room so last minute. It made the red eye flight substantially more pleasant. Have a wonderful trip! Here's the link - www.marriott.com/hotels/maps/travel/lihhi-kauai-marriott-resort/
I like to watch these videos to help inspire myself to make something of myself so I can have enough money to go live in places like this someday. Hopefully!
What. No talk about the kauai's drug abuse / meth problem? Or worst traffic in the islands? How about unemployment and dead end jobs for locals at min wages. Such blindness.
Kauai and the rest of the Hawaiian Islands are my favorite places in the United States. The scenery is spectacular and the people Welcoming and very friendly.
Hey, tnx for the tips :) i'm solo traveler and without my driver's license...are there any buses to get me around the island? Is it even practical to go to Hawaii without being able to go around with a rent-car?
Good question!! I found the bus service petty limited... probably choose where you stay carefully so you're close to a route. Not sure how Uber is on the island but it could be an option!
That resort looks SO beautiful! Oh my gosh you're just going to have the best time. Congratulations on your wedding! We were married a couple days after returning from this trip to Kauai. :)
Thank you! and Congratulations to you and your husband! We are spending a week in Kauai then a week in Maui at a ranch house. We invited our parents to come to Maui as a thank you for all their help with our wedding! Ive never been to Hawaii so this will be quite the adventure :)
Thank you! That is such a lovely idea, you are going to have a wonderful time. I haven't an official travel guide for Maui, but here's some ideas: - Visit the cute town of Lahaina - See the amazing resorts in Wailea - Take a boat trip to snorkel at Molokai - Visit Kaanapali Beach (great snorkelling around Black Rock - and it’s free!) - Drive the Road to Hana (I get carsick so this isn’t my thing, but it’s supposed to be amazing!) My fav cheap eats - Maui Tacos! Mmm, they have a salsa bar with all different kinds of salsas… now I REALLY want some! There's a few on the island so you'll probably be near one at some point. Also, the Hawaii Revealed guidebook line has one for Maui (Maui Revealed) - was the first book we discovered in the line and can't look back! App is super handy too - can use offline and flag the places you want to see so it's easy to get around without using a ton of data. :)
You did an awesome job! We have been several times and stay in Hanalei.. BUT.. with the last bad storm not sure if it is doable.. the road to that end of the North is only open to local traffic..
Thanks Ruth! :) The weather there has been wild lately, that's for sure! We tried to go to Big Island a few months ago (just before the volcano erupted) but it was crazy rainy... same with all the other islands! Hopefully that road will open again eventually, it is a spectacular part if the island. 🏝❤️
I'm planning on visiting Kauai in mid April. we will be staying in Kapaa at a condo. we are planning to visit a botanical garden. do you have any suggestions?
I heard the botanical garden is beautiful! We didn't get a chance to go but it did come recommended. I'd certainly get the Revealed book... the app is great too!
Ooo good to know! We were a little late in the day by the time we made it to that part of the island so we didn't attempt any hiking but I want to next time!
+Jesse Torres I am so jealous! Have an amazing time! It's such a great place. If you're looking for a sweet treat, also check out JoJo's Shave Ice... it honestly can take a while to get (like 20-30 minutes) but it is phenomenal. Love that you're staying in 2 different areas - that's a great idea! :D
John Colombo Pretty sure we just asked for “day rate”. They said it was quite common there since most flight departing Hawaii to North America are red eyes - and this Marriott is super close to the airport! Nice beach and the pool/spa area is amazing. Actually so nice it was tough to go rest (even tho we were a bit under the weather!). Have a great trip.
Kathleen Wright that’s awesome! Have a great time! Weather should be great for you by the looks of things ... I wanted to go this week but it’s pouring rain all over the state! Getting it out of the way for your trip. ;) Enjoy!
It was not very sunny while we were there, we did have an earthquake which was unexpected, we visited the volcano on Wednesday and 24 hours later in the very spot we were standing on had an earthquake...6.9, crazy, anyway we were at the Big Island and it was beautiful, the food, drinks, and people were amazing
Kathleen Wright I was thinking of you actually!!! We ALMOST WENT to Big Island 3 weeks ago but we looked at the weather - crazy. The whole state was just covered by that downpour for weeks! How lucky was that to avoid the earthquake by just days?? Wow. So glad you were ok and had a great trip overall!
I can only imagine!! I'm thinking about it myself... might need a lil' pick me up to get me through winter. Have a great time! Thanks for the comment :)
+Oli's Travels Thinking of everyone there! What a tragedy - in such a wonderful place. I was there in October and it was extraordinary. Just so sad what happened, I cannot believe it.
I can't even imagine what it must be like there right now. The whole world needs better days - 2016 hasn't been kind to humanity. Perhaps if some of these people travelled more, they would have a bit more perspective on life so they could go ahead and enjoy it instead of damaging that of others!
Thank you! I am single and typically travel alone but only to familiar places. I have wanted to go back to Kauai. So I have gotten up the nerve to travel alone. Excited and making plans! Kauai is magical!
Thomas I’d recommend checking the weather! The north coast is beautiful but is often rainy, so I’d scope out the forecast to see when your best bet is to visit it. Then plan the rest of your trip around that. Enjoy!! 🏝
Thank you Tom! Hope you have a great vaycay there! Pronunciation is def tricky, I've had about every combination of pronunciation recommendation you can think of. I asked around while I was there and still got conflicting recommendations lol! Po-tay-to, po-tah-to 😅 No matter how you say it, Kauai is an incredible place to visit!
