Thank you very much for doing this series. It looks like I am going to need to do this job, unfortunately.

thank you for this video, i've just started tearing appart mine and unfortunately before finding this video i've taken out all engine mounts as i thought i'd have to remove the whole block

+David Paetkau That's unfortunate, though I hope the video series will prove helpful to you.

Well this way I'll be able to learn more and make sure nothing else is wrong with the bike. The previous owner told me that only the coils needed to be changed and when I got into it i found about 2.5 gallons of oil in it 1 cross threaded plug. 2 plugs not even hooked up and the condenser coil needed to be changed also the fuel valve had a shot o ring and the fuel never actually turned off.... I'm learning alot

@kwrightway you mention that there is another video that is the disassembly.. I cannot seem to find that video. Can you put a link to it here? I am about to rebuild a '78 kz, and would love that video!

I don't recall creating a video on the disassembly of the KZ650 engine. If I mentioned this in one of my videos, then I was mistaken and must apologize for the misleading statement. It certainly was unintentional. I would suggest getting a good service manual that describes the disassembly procedure. My preference it the original equipment manufacture-produced manuals (Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, etc.).

l have a kz1000p 1985 . do you know if there is difference batween 650 and 1000 the engines look same .

Though there is a definite family resemblance between the 650 and 1000, that's about where the similarly ends. They are different engines so the 1000 is not simply a bored/stroked 650.

Thank you so much for all of your Kz650 videos. Im in the middle of a tear down on my kz650 motor. Got the whole thing apart, thanks to your videos. Im just a bit stuck on how to dis-assemble to piston heads. 3 of the 4 of them have very loose rings around the heads. Im guessing this is not good? How would you suggest cleaning and restoring the piston heads? Thank you again for your help!
@kwrightway

The piston rings are supposed to be loose, that is, to be able to move them around a bit and certainly to have some "spring" to them when pushed in against the piston. If one of the four pistons has rings that are not able to be slightly moved, then then carbon (from the combustion process) has likely built up to the point the rings are stuck. The usual solution is to remove the pistons from the engine and carefully attempt to remove the rings so the grooves can be cleaned. Be aware though, this can be a delicate procedure and often results in the rings breaking as they are quite brittle. It's quite common to have to replace rings due to breakage when attempting to remove them for cleaning.

@kwrightway

Unfortunately I didn't create any videos on the engine disassembly. I started the KZ650 series beginning with reassembly. Sorry...

I'm sorry, I can't answer your question. I've not worked on a GPZ1100 nor do I have any reference material on this bike. I'd suggest you do research on the Internet, seeking out GPZ1100 sites in particular. I'm sure the info you're looking for is out there somewhere.
