Carried out a very successful filter and oil change before a recent trip to the continent, thanks for taking the time to put it together and post the video
I've watched a few of these vids for my er6, but none are as detailed as this. Cheers for explaining the whole process and leaving nothing out. Loosening the filter, warming the engine, priming the filter, cleaning the stem, standing the bike up for extra drainage, checking for leaks and re checking the level aren't mentioned at all in some videos. Thanks
Thank you, this was on time. I want to learn how to do low maintenance on my Versys. You are very thorough, clear video & to the point. Appreciate you, will be looking out for more videos. Thanks again 'Lovelife'
I learned a couple things; i always do refreshers. A couple tips for you; after you drain the oil, close put the old filter on and pour some clean oil in (look at how dirty your oil was checking the level. It's not bad :D but an extra rinse, anyway) after rinsing with a little with the old filter on (clearing the top line) you then put the new primed filter on, and pour more clean in (you don't need much; .25 litre. I have an extra big thing of oil sitting round; it's engine mouthwash.) But awesome vid! now to get baked as fuck, change some oil, and drive around town rollin! kazow!!
Anyone doing oil change should keep in mind that continuous contact with engine oil has caused cancer in lab rats, so it's probably a good idea to wear a pair of latex gloves when you're changing the oil. Even if it's just once or twice, it doesn't hurt to wear a cheap pair of latex gloves.
Thankyou so much for clearly explaing the process and helping out others with your video. keep up the good work :) hope to see more versys videos from u. take care and thanks once again. one question, after how many kms did u changed the oil? since its synthetic and not the regular oil will the interval duration between oil change be same?
No problem. 👍 The intervals are 7000 miles and it was last changed 4000 miles ago. Using fully synthetic doesn't change the interval, it just improves the protection of the engine between intervals when compared to mineral oil. I've only just got the bike and am looking forward to adding more videos that will help other owners.
Did you replace the sump washer? I thought it was common practice to replace at every change. Good tip with the newspaper, I'll be doing that come service time
It's good practice to do so and I always fit a new washer on a car because you might not see the plug again for months but the bike plug is visible and any drips would be easy to see so I didn't bother. There's been no oil loss in the months since the change.
Thank you! I think I'm gonna buy mine in less than two weeks and I'm really excited. Your video will help me to take care of the motobike on my own. That's gonna be my first motobike. Do you think this is a good choice? Thanks again!
Thank you for the video. Have you changed the brake pedal? I've just bought this bike (after 30 years of not having a bike ;) and I find the brake pedal is way too small. Yours seems much bigger. I would appreciate your advice. Thanks Tim
Hi. Nice and clear vid thanks. Except, did you torque the oil filter, and how? Some people suggest that once you feel it tighten by hand it needs 3/4 to one full turn. Would you recommend that? Obvs, I have no torque wrench (and it's proving difficult to get hold of now I'm living in Thailand) - my bikes the same model (2013). Cheers.
Don't fill oil filters when installing them. The risk of contamination damaging your engine is higher than the risk of damage from it running for less than half a second without proper oil pressure from the filter being empty.
Hi, did you used the original drane plug gasket? It is recommended to change the gasket too, as it is a crush gasket, but i cant find the size of it so i plan to use the original one.
SiRobb I got my oil changed last week by Kawasaki Service Center and now I feel my bike has lost its power, then I noticed the oil level is overfilled. Does overfilling the engine oil can cause loss of power?
It can do. Check the oil level with the engine off and the bike upright/level. The oil should be between the upper and lower markings in the sight glass.
Hei, great video, great tips! It ill buy a 4l oil can and ill use only 2 liters, the remaining 2 liters will be ok to use next year? If yes than its a good idee to buy 2 oil filters! Thanks for the video.
hey great video! ive done numorous oil changes relying on your instructions 😘 one thing that always drove me crazy were those bubbles that form in the oil window. do you have any idea why that happens??? thanks!
try taking the filler cap off before emptying. It empties more thoroughly and quickly that way. Possibly the issue is cavitation in the oil due to pressure caused by a difference between the engine and outside during emptying.
Help! When filling it up with oil.. how much do i put in at first? Then what? Do i start the bike and let it run for how long? Then how do i check if i have filled it uo with enough oil... do i let the bike cool down again before checking or.. im so confused with this.. i dont know the bike temparture to get a acurate level of oil on the glass screen.
I got one of these a couple of months back. Really like it but at 6.1 tall, the wind buffeting smacks me right in the face at anything over 60. Have you done anything to counteract this on yours?
I'm a couple of inches shorter than you and have managed to find a comfortable screen height. Mine was also fitted with a vario screen "spoiler" so maybe that helps too. Have you tried all the screen heights and angles? There's at least 3 different ones.
I think i have it on the steepest angle. I'm going to try and get hold of one of those mountable extensions but they're so expensive for what they are! £70ish for what is essentially a piece of acrylic.
Yes, they are crazy money. I was lucky mine came with it. Possibly experiment with a lower screen position. I've found that a good compromise on some bikes. You're still getting the wind but in an area of your body that can soak it up rather than having your head buffeted.
Hi there! Im 6'2 or 195cm in metric and I had the same issue. I bought used puig touring screen on ebay and I made custom extension rods so that the screen goes around 5cm more up. The right height for windscreen is your nose area when you are sitting comforably on the bike. I found that these windscreen extencions only disrupt the flow of air and make the wind buffenting even worse. Let me know if you fixed the issue! sorry for my bad London :3 xD
