Yeah, I think I’ll eventually get the Ivan’s tune on the bike. I’ve heard nothing but glowing reviews on it. The bike doesn’t “need” it. But why not to get it running optimally. Thanks for tuning in!
@@bertsbike I thought I could ride around the snatch too, it's just those second gear turns after all. But it's more noticeable if you run over something unexpected at slow speed, almost like whiskey throttle!
Got a nice 2019 with only 5500km 3 months ago.. I'm at 85k now.. this video perfectly describes what I've experienced so far. Excelent review! Greetings from Uruguay
Its 7:30am Christmas Eve, im setting an waiting for the delivery truck . With my 2019 kz 900 rs cafe lime green an mean . Merry Christmas everyone an be safe an stay out the ditches! 🏍️🧑🎄🎁
It got here at 11:00 am , has been modified by the professional racer who owned it . He built it for the street , this thing is SCARY fast . An she purrs at the lights an screams with the slightest touch. Im in love now at first sight this 62 year old Kawasaki lover will keep you updated .
I LOVE the positive neutral feature. On the flip side, you have to watch out going from 2nd to 1st, below like 15 mph, I think. The bike will go into neutral, and it doesn't come out of neutral without some serious negotiating! It's so embarrassing. The easiest method for me is to blip the throttle while pushing down on the shifter. I know better now, so I make sure to shift to 1st before the speed is too low. That's been my experience on the Z900 ABS. From my knowledge, the RS and the ABS are essentially the same.
That positive neutral finder is such a simple concept. I wonder why more manufacturers don’t implement that. I usually shift down and rev match as I slow. But if I forget I have to clutch out slightly and then you can shift but you have to repeat for each gear. Most bikes i’ve owned have been like that tho. Thanks for watching!
Just turned 14,000 miles on mine and still love it. I know everyone gets on their knees for the Ivans flash but I opted to have my professionally tuned on a dyno since no two bikes are the same and I beat the shit out of mine unlike all the nerds on the forums who complain about the snatchy throttle and go up a tooth on the front sprocket.
I was wondering why guys would opt for that flash instead of an actual dyno tune 🤔. I put the bike through it’s paces the past few days… I’m pretty happy with it even without the tune atm. No doubt the dyno/flash would take it up a few notches!
The indicators is likely due to the same issue I had with my Street Triple RS having large incandescent indicators instead of the slimmer euro LED units. It has to do with DOT regulations requiring a certain total surface area to an indicator lens according to some things I've read.
Ah, I see… Makes sense. My old cb300 had indicators that look very similar to the euro spec tho 🤷♂️. It’s just a nit pick anywayz. Thanks for watching!
Love the bike brother. Prefer the Cafe over the standard purely for the complete retro look. Could be buying the Cafe for my 65th birthday this year as for most of us, it's a pretty substantial milestone. Should look pretty good beside my Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor in my garage. Apreciate the personal review mate. Subscribed. Greetings from Oz.
Hey Andy! Appreciate ya watching and leaving a comment. Yes, I bought the Cafe’ for the same reason but also to have a some forward lean; to feel more “in” the ride if that makes any sense. Ride safe! Let us know on here if you get it or whatever bike you decide on! ✌️
Hey Mark. I think there were some small things but the one difference that I know is that the 21’s and on got a bigger radiator. They may have a slightly different mapping as well for emissions etc…
The high rpm at startup is get it to operating temperature and to ensure oil has been distributed thru out the engine before you go riding. Headlight - adjust the headlight down 25-30 yards, you will notice the difference. Safe riding!
For sure !!! And, after the first oil change, and around 1000-2000 miles, the bike doesn't rev that high anymore on startup. I never even hear it or notice it. Guess having it for some time now, the bike has been thru the paces enough and the high rpm doesn't happen.
Just a few observations. (I too have Z900rs, 6500 miles in). You notice engine feels better after first service oil change. This is due (a lot) to the fact that the break in oil is especially thin, a special grade for the initial short run in period. Hence a noticeable difference when it's first 'proper' grade oil is introduced at first service. Secondly (and most importantly) NOoooo - do NOT whatever you do roll the throttle forward to lower warm up revs. This can throw up engine fault codes as well as cause physical harm to the throttle mechanism..... As you say, superb bike, can be ridden slow as you like or, quick as can be, yes, it does encourage you to go quick if not careful. Like you, I thought original exhaust sounds mighty fine. After long agonising consideration circa 5000 miles I made a swap. If you put on a Delkevic header set it allows the Oem end can & the heat shield to be retained. Doing this really WAKES the engine right up. You'll have a whole load of more acceleration. No need for Ecu flash!!!! Later, I added the Akrapovic can designed for Z900rs (titanium body so blends in well w/ chrome) plus got a flash to the Ecu. What can I say ~ fully unleashed now & it performs how Kawasaki engineers want you to feel, not shackled down the way EU meddlers imposed on your bike. The difference once the motor is unleashed is startling.......
Thanks for watching dave! Appreciate all the Info. Interesting that you can swap the headers and not have a tune on the bike. Did you delete the lower breadbox then?
@@bertsbike Yes, the breadbox is deleted by the installation of the Delkevic kit. (Circa $300.00 US. kit is Polished Stainless Steel throughout Includes all fixtures, fittings, springs, seals, sealant) The breadbox contains no cat nor silencer function, The exhaust note becomes more aurally aggressive & retains the characteristic sound of the Z900rs. If I recall, swapping the headers alone saves about 15 or so Lbs weight. Plus, the internal pipe bore is larger thus aiding the engines breathing gas flow. No ecu is required at this stage as Delkevic confirm, I confirm and can be seen on threads on the Z900rs forum. The 02 sensor, the pair valves are still in play at this stage, ergo no ecu work needed. Big old acceleration improvement by this alone. The Ecu flash (I had done on dyno tune, not by sending away ecu.) turns off O2 sensor, deletes pair valves, turns on fan sooner causing engine to run cooler (kinder to engine - enhances lifespan) overcomes the minor throttle issue around 2500rpm/ 3000rpm. Its best to tune ecu on a dyno that way the diagnostics are from your bike & the resulting tune is particular to your bike. Posting away is cheaper BUT you get the flash designed for somebody else's bike. As the engineer who did mine stated "think about it as buying a generic off the peg suit versis a made to measure suit."
@@daveh9003 Very cool. I’ll definitely look into that header set. I get what you mean about the dyno tune being tailored to your personal bike. Great info! Appreciate it!
@@bertsbike You're very welcome. Just enjoy the RS, marvellous bike, pure joy!! Ps The addition of Delkevic whilst retaining oem end can & heat shield means no obvious visible difference...... errrm..... except for the odd blue flame ~ about 12inches long, being spat out the tail on overrun. 😂 🔥 😁
