Hi Willie. Each map has an ID and version number and checksum (to keep a unique record of the software parameters your ECU is running), it will show on any diagnostic tool.
Regarding the Puch's pedals, don't forget that, between 1971 and 1977, all mopeds had to be fitted with pedals " ...by which they could be propelled". My old Suzuki AP50 had pedals that both pointed forwards like footrests but you could rotate one of them 180⁰ and engage a gear so you could pedal it like a bike (in theory). In practice, there was so much slop in the system, you couldn't do more than about 1.5 mph for 10 yards - after which you would collapse from exhaustion. Happy days!
Yep. I had one. Once you engaged those pedals, it became so obvious that it was designed simply to get around legislation. Those over-long cranks made you look absolutely ridiculous - pedalling with fury, knees hitting your armpits, like some kind of circus clown 😂
What is that marketing slogan? “Make it your own…” You’re spot on, Willie, it’s the mods and tweaks that make owning a bike FUN and interesting. I think of every rally or gathering I’ve gone to and it’s always the bikes and cars that have been customized to some extent that draw my attention and admiration. If all I wanted to see was a stock bike, I’d just skip the camaraderie and the crowds and go to a dealer or look at the bikes on-line. How boring is that? Crack the wallet and enjoy it!! 👍😎 And I wouldn’t hesitate for a second on the remap. Seems to me if it really became imperative to UNre-map it, that could be done as well. Not that I’d lose a wink over it! Sounds like it will make riding with your other half far more pleasant and what could be better than that!
Great story about Rob 🤣🤣🤣 nearly choked on my burger for lunch 😀☺️ anything you do to Your bike willie is fine by me🤣🤣 no serious it’s your bike so don’t worry about others 😄🤝 also anything to do with a remap will always show on the ecu if they plug it in to check service history, I really like those carbon extras you’re having, have a great week buddy 👍🏻🏍☺️☀️do what makes your bike yours
Loved the Rob story and i remember that moped he had!!😂 listen Dude you do what you want to yr bike...cover it in carbon, remap it do whatever you want...its yr bike,yr money and I for one love the way you are....NEVER CHANGE Willie!!!
I wonder if the snatchy response is a result of the inherent delay caused by the throttle by wire? Does the Z900rs have a throttle cable or is it throttle by wire? A lot of people don't like throttle by wire for the slight delay it induces. BJ
Great video thanks Willie. Lovely to hear another Rob story, it has been a while since you told us one. I think you should do what ever you want to do to your bike, as you say that is all part of the fun of owning it. 😀
Hi Willie , have you considered fitting a gearbox sprocket 1 tooth bigger? I have done this too a couple of bikes and it can help with the snatching and is a much cheaper option.
I’ve recently changed from a Z650rs to Z900rs. Being fairly new to riding I’m not finding any problems with the bike other than perhaps seat comfort. Although that is improving with miles. Maybe low speed in 2nd gear it can be a little “jerky” but nothing clutch control doesn’t sort out. Be interesting to see your before and after thoughts👍
@@2wheeledwillie395 I’ve done 400 miles so far. It might be “I don’t know what I don’t know” as far as only experience on big bikes being Z650rs and Z900rs. I did test ride triumphs and Hondas before the Z900 though and for me it was the “one”. I think I’ve got used to using the clutch to control any problem that could be there🤔
Probably a Puch Maxi. They were everywhere when I was a teen in the seventies. Those and NSU Quickly's; now there was a machine. Have a google when you get a gap.
I am one of the 10% that never changes the bike or car that I purchase. As for the snatchy throttle, could it just be because it's a 900cc and you have been used to riding a sluggish 350 or 650cc RE. It might be that you are a bit heavy handed on the throttle, a bit like a lead foot in a car.
Hi Glen,my previous bike was a T120 so definitely not a sluggish bike....it's a known thing with the Z900RS, the guy at the tunning place said its the most common bike that they remap
Totally agree regarding buying add ons for your bike. As a suggestion think about purchasing bar end mirrors, not only because they would look great on your RS but 100% improvement to visibility. I have recently purchased "Stadium" make in the clasic style & the change is unbelievable. The RS would probably lean more towards a more retro style. 👌
@@ruahinesrider the ones in the states were Austrian 🇦🇹 puch, branded in the USA 🇺🇸 as sears if my memory serves me right my VZ 50 sport was exactly the same as the US one only the paint and bars being different mine was yellow n chrome the sears were cream n chrome and the bars on the US model were flatter,
Hello mate, great to watch the video as always. Firstly as far as the remapping is concerned, if it helps you enjoy the bike more do it. It's your bike. I will almost definitely invalidate the warranty, and Kawasaki will know because as soon as you go to them with any issues then first thing they do is plug it into a diagnostic tool, to identify the problem, it's all recorded on modern cars and bikes on the ECU. But, as it's a new bike you probably won't have any issues with it anyway at least until the warranty period expires as long as you service it regularly and look after it. Secondly, all the people telling yo not to mess with it, I think you did the right thing telling them to mind their own business it's your bike, your money, and therefore you have every right to modify it in whichever way makes you happy and you feel enhances the owning experience. Good luck keep on riding and enjoy every second 👍
Ignore the naysayers - why put up with an imperfect riding experience imposed upon you by emissions legislation, when it can be easily, quickly, safely, and legally fixed? All fuel injected bikes have a diagnostic port, and when the dealer plugs in their scanner, it will show if it is a non-standard map. However, if you did have to return the bike to the dealer for warranty work, your tuner should be able to reload the OE map as easily as the custom one. I have a Rexxer flash on my Ducati Monster, and it transformed its low speed manners from something that was a nightmare below 40 to a bike that can now be pottered through town smoothly in fourth gear. Now _that's_ a keeper, which I've had 13 years from new. But I couldn't have lived with it without the remap.
@@2wheeledwillie395 I can't see what it looks like properly, can you post a picture please as they do two different versions of the candy green/yellow? Thanks
I have the Z650RS and it had a snatchy throttle - I fitted a G2 throttle tamer to it and what a difference it makes.... when I compared the G2 throttle body to OEM, you could visibly see the change it would make to flatten out the initial throttle cable travel and give you extra control. It really works and I will not be taking it off again. What puzzles me is that why isn't it like that in the first place? it was £82 when I bought it about 12 months ago and though it's a tad expensive for a piece of aluminum, its really worth it for that extra control. Also helps with getting a smoother engine braking experience as you close the throttle. its on the G2 ergo website for MY 18 to 23 Z900RS - worth considering, I'd say.
Great vid and an amusing tale about 😮 Rob my friend You said Puch right, Willie. The Puch Maxi competed with the NSU Quickly and Rayleigh Runabout mopeds in the early 70s. But the Honda 50cc C100 step through and the short-lived Rayeigh Supermatic moped became the preferred bikes as they could top 50mph. Met a Dutch couple in the 70s who toured all of Europe on a pair of NSU's . 30mph top whack. Took them 5 months camping all the way. Re The Kwaka. If you get it back and it feels softer on the take up, I'd suggest it's been remap. Like you say your dosh, so if you want to put purple spots on it and have ape hangers, go for it, mate.
In the early 1970s the Puch MS50 was popular. It had a cowled, fan-cooled engine, gears (!) and double seat. A friend had one with rear footpegs, which offered the possibility of giving a girlfriend a lift. They looked very similar from the 1950s well into the 70s, and were cooler than the Maxi.
You're looking tanned mate. Gee, I would have thought more off your subscribers would've liked snatch than don't🤔🫣 😁😆😅🤣😂. Mate I've spent probably another 4k on accessories for the T100 If you include matching helmets gloves and all my other stuff and I'm still not done 😮!! Take care and and make sure you you grab that snatch with a soft hand although it might be better with a firm hand . Throttles can be a tricky thing to handle 😁😆😅🤣🤣
Puch mopeds were around in the late 70's when I started riding - the Puch Maxi was a moped but there was also the 50 cc Puch Grand Prix that was pretty quick as 50 cc bikes went - they came from Austria. If I had a Z900RS I would get it re-mapped - Euro 5 results in manufacturers trying to make ICE's run on fuel mixtures that they were never intended to run on. Modifying - it's all about personal taste - who cares what others think.
A remap will invalidate the warranty. The map can be read by the dealer by plugging in the diagnostic tool. Manufacturers will use any excuse not to cover warranty claims.
@@2wheeledwillie395 I worked at a Triumph/Ducati dealer and dealt with warranty claims so I know how they'll look for an excuse not to pay, but it also depends on the dealer and how hard they'll go into bat on your behalf if you have a problem. I didn't want to put a damper on your remap plans but I thought you should know. The house is coming along nicely by the way and it is good to get out of the city to ride. We moved from Fort Worth Texas to the mountains and forests of Arkansas and the riding is waaaay better, although I do miss the country pubs from back home when out on a ride.
Willie what ever you do to your lovely bike cannot will not ruin it even the mapping can be re set to factory spec the carbon fibre can be taken off so fill your boots the bike will feel very different in ten thousand miles like an old friend so don’t worry she’s a keeper 👍🏍️
The bike is new and under warranty Tak it to the dealer let the dealer know about the issue and tell them it’s not supposed to be that way let the dealer make it right and if they determine it needs a remap let them do it and note it to the warranty This way it’s on them if you have issues that the warranty is need for I would NOT let an outside agent touch the bike while under warranty Regards from Florida 🦩
I had one, cafe version, good bike, I had to learn to use the throttle properly, you can't use it like a carb / cable throttle, Basically much smoother with your input , I think the bike learns to adapt to the way you ride! Maybe give it a bit more time and miles, mine definitely got much better after a few thousand miles.
Everyone likes to customise their bikes to make it suit them. Don't listen to these negative people, it is your bike so do as you please. The ECU won't be checked for warranty, at most if they plugged the computer on the ECU it would reset it, but it won't tell them it is mapped, so don't worry about that.. you will be fine.
Afternoon willie Your bike mate...have it how you want... Those who say that's not for me blah blah...that's fine...not your bike!😂 My Rs euro5 same as yours no remap though exhausts different as you know...hardly snatchy at all. Take mrs out on it too no problems, though my old blackbird is so much more comfortable 2 up, especially if carrying stuff. Safe rides mate...🥂🏍🤙
Classic Rob story! 🤣 It's good I haven't posted a video in years. I'd get a right spanking for what I'm having done on my Tenere 700. Acerbis 6.2 Gallon tank, Denali Accessory Lights, new ProTaper ADV handlebars, heated grips, Bark Busters, Kaoko Cruise Control, Having my Garmin 700i Montana mounted and hardwired, chain guide, having already installed myself a Puig Taller Screen, Yamaha OEM Engine Guards, Camel ADV Minimalist rear rack & side racks, and Seat Concepts Low Comfort seat. Next year it'll get suspension work and new exhaust system. I also have a CamelADV fuel tank waiting in the wings for possible mounting in conjunction with the Acerbis tank for future trips to Alaska and Canada. Possibly Baja Mexico. Do what you want with High Ball, 🥃I mean Yellow Ball... 😁it's your bike. I like seeing what other people do with their bikes. If we left them stock the world would be boring. I think those carbon bits will be amazing. I don't care for the silver bits on the Z900RS. If the bike were silver or white or something, maybe. Definitely map it. Yeah the dealership can tell but so what? As long as it is mapped correctly it's all good. and you'd notice if it were to get mapped incorrectly... which it won't . It'll be fine. Whan I dropped the T7 off yesterday morning I mentioned the clutch/gearbox, for the third time. Dealership called me later and said Yamaha is going to replace the clutch. Yamaha thinks there is an issue with an anti-rust coating interfering with the operation of the clutch plates on the new bikes. Mine is a 24'. Cheers Willie! 🍻
Mate it’s your bike take no notice of what anyone else is saying you do what you want especially if it’s going to keep the other half happy 😅while riding. Great rob story loved it 😂. Ride safe.
Hi Willie, have patience the bike needs to be ridden and miles on it and if Kawasaki is aware of the issues it will be corrected, dont remap at least at the moment.
Thanks for the story of Rob, i needed a good laugh, ha ha. I had a puch in Holland like a little shopper. You say Poeg! I would wait Willie with adjustments untill the bike is properly run in. Every part of the engine gets smoother. Thats why i do not like to testride a demobike. Thanks Willie and greetings from Holland
Insured with Carole Nash ...not sure who the underwriter is, it's very common for bikes to have remaps nowadays so can't see you'd have a problem finding a company that would do it tbh
Very many years ago I went on a computer course in Radlett, in a hotel called the Red Lion (which is apparently still there). It had two large concrete red-painted lions outside the front door. One night we got smashed (every night - we were young!) and arriving back late at the hotel we carried one of these lions into reception and put a note on it "who forgot to put the cat out, then?". The hotel management appreciated the joke and asked us to put the lion back as they couldn't lift it! Well neither could we! Two or three of us had carried it in effortlessly the night before when smashed, but it took about six of us now sober to stagger back out with it! I must say I don't remember Radlett as being particularly posh, though. Yes, if you have a warranty claim (or maybe even just a service) the dealer's diagnostic tool will reveal the map of your bike.
Great story re the Puch. I passed my test on a Puch Cheetah 60cc scooter in the sixties, after which i was entitled to ride any size of bike . Those were the days ! - It didn't impress the girls though .
More Rob jokes please. I have a bmw 1200rt. It’s a wonderful bike. I was looking at the Kawasaki 900 today. They are beautiful bikes. Everyone needs 2 bikes.
Unfortunately dealers and insurance companies like bikes to remain stock and will possibly use mods against you come claim time. With the nature of motorcycling some insurers have lists of acceptable mods, so check with your insurer, it’s most likely available on their website.
ECU’s, like virtually all computer systems, have software and hardware version numbers stamped all over them. I’ll bet (I have no evidence) that a remap will also have an ID. Now the really big question is what will you do if the remap doesn’t work? Now as it happens, I’m contemplating changing from a Bonneville T120 that I absolutely love to a Kawasaki like yours. I’m really in two minds. I’ve had a test ride (no roll on/roll off throttle snatching) and thought it was very easy to ride. It was a bit taller than I was expecting and a total hooligan, dressed up as very elegant auntie. I’m still in two minds.
I really don't understand why some people say they don't notice any snatchiness with the Z900RS then loads say they do! Some people have not bought the bike BECAUSE of the snatchiness...find it really strange
If it’s an issue for you, then it’s an issue and you must do what makes it right for you. Do what makes you happy. Why not wrap yourself in carbon fibre and if you don’t like it, take it off again.
Puch mate Austrian bike I had a VZ50 sport and later the M50 sport great moped if your tall ( I was 6’2” at 16 I looked ludicrous on a fizzy, good Rob story mate, as soon as 5hey plug it in at the workshop they will know it’s been fiddled with, I like to make my bike my own, with accessories that make it perform for what I want it to do and I usually add a couple of related stickers so I can tell it from the others, back in the Carl Fogarty days I was at brands hatch when they had the biggest crowd ever (120k) I think biggest attendance to any sporting event that year in the uk, the bike park over overflowed into the surrounding field’s, Foggy, chilli, Hodgson, et al were Ducati riders so the place was packed with red Ducatis and I couldn’t find mine, eventually found it and when I got home got some personal stickers and 2 huge Ducati corse shields on the fairings so I could spot it at a glance, 😂😂😂 a great time for WSBK the 90s and early 2000 ….. Pete 🇫🇷
Re the remap dont do it until your out of your warranty .Kawasaki will be able to tell when you had the remap and what version it is just by plugging in the laptop. This will void the warranty . Great stream mate 👍👍👍
@@2wheeledwillie395 All in all safety is everything and more so with a pillion. Looking forward to hearing back in a video how the remapping goes. Good luck.
@@2wheeledwillie395not a chance!..torque wise, the T120 is a twin..78.9BHP…produces 105NM ( 77.4 lbs) at only 3,500 RPM….the Kwak is a 4 cylinder…109.9 BHP…but only produces 98.8NM( 63.5 lbs) at 6,500 RPM!!…….😉👍
Re-mapping your bike while it's under warranty may well void the warranty. Not worth it. As another person said here, if Kawasaki is aware of it they will put out a fix. Recalls are common. In the '80s American motorcycle magazines would often do a hop-up on a popular bike such as the Kawasaki or GS sports models and they would pour a few grand into the motor, carbs, suspension, etc. and get maybe a wee bit better performance. The next year the new year models from those manufacturers would come out and be demonstrably faster and better handling for maybe $100 more. Just wait and allow Kawasaki to make a recall fix. Or not. But I would rather wait for that and keep my warranty intact. If the bike is a keeper, you will have it when the warranty is over. Great story about Rob! Thank you! SS in commiefornia, USA.
Modify the RS how you want, your bike, your money. I reckon the “real” reason for wanting your better half to ride pillion is to protect your back from the road debris that is thrown up, especially with a tail tidy. 😂😂 Another reason to ride in the dry only. Far worse than the T120. I have to clean my jacket and lid after riding on wet roads (rare). There are comments on 900RS blogs wrt how dealers know about ecu remapping.
unless the dealer that sold you the bike does the re-map , , then you are at total risk of your warranty being void , the ecu will record everything , so unless your best mates with shop owner ??? also beware of cheap carbon bits , these can be brittle if hit and have sharp edges ;; thanks very much and goodnight ;;
😁😁. The Z900RS will look spectacular with all of the carbon fibre bits on it. The biggest problem that you will have with the bike, is finding reasons to justify why you sold it 🤣🤣.
As they say Willie , opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one (but some are bigger arseholes than others ). Its your bike mate, no one else has to ride it, no one else is paying for it, bling it up however you want, get it set up however you want. I know its not in your nature to offend but some people do need to be told to stuff their opinions where the sun don't shine sometimes. Ride safe 👍. I'll be at Stonham tomorrow if you are about.
G’day mate, I reckon Rob & I have been tarred with the same brush, I can remember very similar things happening when I was a little younger 😳🫣…. Most embarrassment 🙈🤣🤣. As for the Kwaka, I say go for the carbon bits. Ya gotta make it yours. Put your stamp on it mate😁. Take care bloke Hooroo for now 🏍👍😎
