I am 100% with you on everything you said. Stop worrying about making folks mad. 00:29 ... A Versys...please... 2:04 not overloaded, bike is rated for 397lbs. Those folks that say you destroy the looks ride a bike 500 miles A YEAR so they have no room to talk. I have a Z900RS, and I am looking to deck mine out like yours. (04:57 Talking about older bikes that were modified for travel... how about my 1983 Suzuki GS1100E decked out with a Vetter Windjammer Fairing. ) Oh the humanity?!?!?!? How could I put a fairing on the fastest/quickest bike of the day. I liked to ride it a long distance, that why, and it was a good bike for it.. 07:48 "Mad Powerful" You got that right!!! 08:30 I want the long fender as well. Had them on all my other bikes. 09:35 Yup all mine did.
Thanks we are definitely on the same page! Not so much worried about making people mad just trying to respect their opinion and trying to get them to see our point of view 🙂 Great comment!
Another great vlog, it’s your bike brother so you build it how you like. I like what you’ve done with it, funnily enough I’ve stripped my luggage rack off totally as I don’t tour and wanted to get the aesthetics back on mine. Agree with the pitting on the exhaust, after nearly binning mine on unmarked gravel road works the headers have never looked quite the same and I spend a lot of time keeping mine spotless. First bike gt80 age 11, first registered bike ‘80 Ducati 600 pantah aged 15. Thanks again.
Never give a $#!% what folks think. You bought the best bike and your style is meant for you & not for anyone else. I love your bike & I hope that you enjoy it to the fullest while staying safe. My first bike was at 3 years old. It was a Honda trail 50, followed by a trail 70, then a Yamaha 50, a Suzuki JR50, Then a Honda XR80. That was the last of my kid bikes at age 10. Since then I had a Honda CB400, A Kaw LTD 440, 3 different Kawasaki KZ 650's one being an SR version. I then went into the Ninja mode getting 2 Ninja 600R's, And I currently have a Ninja ZXR. I'm hoping to get a Z900RS soon. Enjoy your bike, we all love it!
You do not need to answer or apologize for anything it is your bike… everything looks great and at least you are using the bike to its full potential not just playing wannabe road racer like most. Ride safe and enjoy
I went the other direction with mine. Lower Rizoma bar, K-Tech Razor shock, thicker fork oil, much better tires(Pilot Road 5's), decat, removed the exhaust "box" under the bike, K&N air filter, ECU flash and dyno tune.... When I want to tour, I toss a bag on the back and bungee it in place... I can ride it all day long... have done 350 miles in a day, riding up to The Dragon and back, and was comfortable... And with the suspension and tires, it carves corners like a sportbike... Good video. I have tons of them as well, if you are interested.
Dude, your bike is awesome. I used to tour 2 up on my '03 Night Train with far more weight than what you have and it was fine. I have it set up the same way - quick detach saddlebags, top box and windshield. My new '19 Z900RS is going to get the same treatment, using the exact same luggage as you have. Why buy a huge touring bike when you can get the best of both worlds? Pay no attention to those criticizing you, they don't know what they are talking about. My first bike was a 1983 Honda CM450E that I bought in 1987 when I was 15. I rode it illegally without a license for a year but I was already 6'2" 185lbs and had a beard so no-one even looked twice at me. Sold it in 1989 and bought a 1982 Honda CB900 Custom, huge difference.
Mine was blue too. The High/Low range transmission was a mystery to me when I bought it. Luckily, I did not get hit by a truck. I sold it when I joined the Army in 1990.
25 years old and I got a ‘94 sportster 883. Good to learn how to ride and how to wrench (insert unreliable Harley joke here). Love it. So much character to that bike!
My first bike is green Z900RS Cafe, got it a year ago at 37 y.o., love it! Not polishing it and not even washing it that often. I also like touring and have soft side bags. Installed heavy duty crash bars a while ago, so glad that I did. Crashed a couple of months ago, the rear tire slipped while cornering. The bike lowsided, slided along the road, met dirt on the side of the road and flipped. Mirrors snapped off, the handlebar weight scratched, one soft side bag teared, but other than that everything looks fine, apart of that it's not even scratched. Highly recommend to use protection ^^
Cool bike. I like what you’ve done to it. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I love the boxes. I have an 2018 Z900rs and just enjoy the hell out of it. And, I agree with about the front fender. Totally. Kawasaki made steel/chrome and long front fender for the W800. They could easily did that for this bike as well. Enjoy your videos. Have fun riding.
I have the Cafe version of this bike. I installed a rack and fitted a top box, as you did. Makes it very useful and as you point out, removable in seconds. I love this bike!! I live in TN but I'm from England so to hear you say, Motorbike and Zed!! Warms my heart
Love your energy level. I have the same bike, same color, but keep it naked. Just purchased a 1974 Z1900 in the same color scheme. I feel bad that you can't have multiple rides. The bike did not look that bad when you were touring to Fla., I just can't believe how you could ride in 17 deg. weather. Do it now while you are young.
Not easy riding in cold weather 😂 I am looking forward to the heated grips, I have been a mechanic my whole life, so I have many aches and pains, but the enjoyment I get riding and camping out weigh them. Best bike I have ever owned!
First bike 1970 Honda cb350 purchased 11/2019 at age 75. Currently under total restoration (not rusteration) and will be on the road this coming spring
Wow! Very interesting, hope you enjoy it, I have a series of videos on a Cb350 basket case I put back on the road, might want to check them out, good luck with your project! I loved that bike, they have an awesome sound to them.
Don't worry about what others think or say. It's your bike and if it fits your needs, that's all that matters. I have a Zx-14 that I added luggage and a taller windscreen to. I used to hear "why didn't you just get a Connie?"... I didn't want a Connie. I love my Zx. I have 65,500 trouble free miles on it. I am giving serious thought to a 900rs. I'd do the same as you and add side cases, windscreen and a tank bag.. And by the way, you're far from over loaded!!
Thank you, I am really happy with my setup, everyone's needs are different, I think you would love the Z900RS with 65,500 on your bike you're a serious rider, thanks for the comment!
So far, all your videos have been spot on, IMO. I wanna ride mine to Sturgis (we camp for a week in the national forest), and for a long exploring trip In the Rockies and desert SW.
KY, love the video and you open honesty. At 50 years old I understand the tug of war between cool and comfortable. First bike: '84 Honda V65 Sabre. Since then Kawasaki's...'87 1000R Ninja, then /93 ZX-11. Next Bike will be H2 SX SE. Keep the good content coming because for those of us who don't have a ride right now we experience riding through people like you who are generous enough to share with us.
You have had some cool bikes, the H2 is so awesome I need to just go sit on one 😂 thanks for watching, stay tuned with any luck I may be able to get a moto vlog in.
Rented a T120 for a weekend tour and that bike is as comfortable as my Goldwing. Loved the motor. HATED the handling and the tubed tires. Maybe the new lighter weight wheels on the new models will fix some of the handling issues... but still tubed tires. :/
My first bike was a 1977 Honda CB550F2. Then a Honda CB750F2, Yamaha FZ600 Fazer and now a BMW R1200RS from 2017. You make your own chocies. Respect!. Happy new year from Denmark.
Great vid💯🏍👍🏽 What I enjoy about your videos is that man, you are having fun & enjoying life with that Kawasaki! I have a new R6, but looking forward to the 900 as a second bike. Your posts helped me solidify that decision🇺🇸🦾
Nice bike ! I enjoy your videos. Don't worry about the weight on the bike, it's designed to carry a passenger also so you're good for a lot more than 60 lbs. I bought a 2019 Z900RS Cafe last August and have only managed about 4000 kms on it so far. It's winter now in Canada and the plan is to take it on a week long tour over Lake Superior this summer. Heated grips are in the plan but I was about to order OEM Kawasaki grips. I didn't know Oxford made them. I'll have to look into that. I like the idea of the Kawi ones as they will plug directly into the wiring harness under the tank. I also have a heated vest that I've used a long time, it's great. Next purchase will likely be a Givi top case as I already have good quality soft saddle bags. My first bike at age 22 was a brand new Yamaha FZ600. Since then I've had a '93 ZX11, '94 ZX9R, and a 2000 RC51. All were brand new. I still have the RC, I will never part with it ! Keep up the good work.
I'm sure you're looking forward to your trip, you have been fortunate to have some nice bikes! I have thought about wiring the oxford grips into that connector under the tank, undecided on that still, thanks for watching!
I'm looking to do this same set up. Looks great to me, just sold my ZG1400 and have been touring on my 701 Enduro, but I'm ready for another dedicated street bike.
Great video and reasons for purchasing that bike. My first bike was a 1983 Honda CB550 Nighthawk at 28 years old. Loved that bike, but it was 23 years old and I wanted a new bike. Purchased a 2007 FZ6 new and it's still my primary bike 48k miles later. Been looking for my next bike, but few stand out as worthy replacements at this time and would like to get in a little better position before purchasing a new bike. I tend to keep my bikes for a long time and want a premium bike for the next one. Leaning toward a BMW RnineT or something similar at the moment. It's the only bike I've ridden so far and thought could be a suitable replacement. I will still try to keep the FZ6 since I won't be able to get as much value out of it as pleasure of keeping it.
Question, why didn’t you buy a Versa or a BMW? Answer just look at the Z900RS it is the best looking bike on the market. Your additions make it 100% useable for you. I don’t like top boxes but can see that they when needed are a necessary “evil”. Extended mudguards deffo should be standard. Follow your channel because it’s the Z900RS, keep up the good work, also the clocks on the Kawa are 100% spot on and better than any TFT/LCD screen out there
Thank you and you said what I was thinking, the luggage doesn't look that great but as I showed in a previous video comes off in seconds. I will continue to make videos on the Z900RS for sure but I also make other videos hope you will stay with me, watch just the RS videos if that's what you like
Nice review. I also ride a z900rs, black. Best bike i ever had. My first one was an BMW 650 scarver. Keep up the good Job. Looking forward for your next review. Best regards from Sweden. (Little to cold for a spin at the moment:(
Mudguards or the lack of on modern bikes really annoys me, I live in the UK, it rains lots, it's not rocket science... grr lol. Black indelible marker pen may mask the dings in your radiator a bit (will probably look deep purple in strong sun). I don't know of anyone that has had fender defenders painted up, interesting idea. Top boxes/luggage are a necessary evil, very handy just for security chains etc over here... Traction control is fantastic these days and as I don't enjoy bouncing down the road I wouldn't run without it given the option... That screen may turn into a windsock given a strong sidewind, I look forward to your experience. 👍🖖 P.S Honda CB125T 1977 spec in 1989 it was a complete wreck, I was 20, though I got my full test passed so it did its job.
Your bike, your choices. You can have something to pose with at the coffee stop or you can have a bike to use it for whatever you want to do. With that Shad luggage you can have both. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and for those who think luggage and racks are ugly or spoil the look that's ok, it's their opinion, but who are they that you should be concerned at what they think? They probably don't have bikes and never go camping. I am a UK resident and one of my bikes is a Z900RS the same as yours. Yes I agree Kawasaki should have fitted, or at least offered, larger mudguards ( fenders). I fitted extenders to front and rear and SW-Motech engine crash bars.
Having a 73 Z1.....my choice would have been orange and brown. Having said that, the green looks sharp. Good buy. My first bike, other than dirt bikes was a 1969 Triumph Bonnevile. I was 18. Four years later I had my butt handed too me by a Z1. The next day I traded it it on a new Z.
Thanks for video! Love this bike but stuck between this and the Triumph Speed Twin. Anyone rode both? The Z900RS seems like the better buy but man I love that Speed Twin engine and the looks of the bike.
Sir, I have the same color rs, I have oxford heat grips, electronic cruise control, that small fairing, I am 6 foot tall works ok but I will be getting a larger screen for the winter, I have been riding adventure bikes for the last 23years, I just wanted a lighter bike which by the way is 50 kilos lighter than my last bike, and I just plain like this bike, and like you I will do what ever I like to do to the bike, I buy a motorcycle for me not any one else, good luck with your bike.
the bike looks good with the boxes im buying a z900 soon so i think ill buy those same boxes for my bike when i need to carry stuff it looks better than a lot of other bigger bikes ! my first bike i was 19 years old a honda 90 sport loll
Hi KY! My first street motorcycle was a Yamaha 1968 YL-1 Twinjet 100cc I bought as a teenager in 1975. Most of my subsequent street bikes were two strokes, I even had a 74 T500 similar to yours.
I could not agree more. I also have the Puig Touring Traveller II windscreen. It is great, and I am thinking about the handlebar risers also. Where did you got the sheep skin seat cover from? I would like to get one of these for my bike also.
I would buy a longer front mudguard too . If it was same length rear of the forks as it is forwards it would not look at all odd. It looks odd now. Aftermarket companies please note .. The extender made by powerbronze seems to be longest.
Don't understand why they just don't make a factory fender long! Drives me crazy, if they at least offered it as an option then old guys like me would buy it!!
Buy and ride what you want. Who gives a rats ass what anyone else thinks. I've loved the look of these bikes ever since they came out with them. In fact, out of all the retro looking bikes that have come out over the past few years, this one is my fav. Ride and be safe out there.
Why do you even bother responding to the haters . This bike is awesome and you should do whatever you want with it . Back in the days people toured on anything on 2 wheels .
When i had my z1 in the 70,s putting racks on was the way you travelled .As you say you can easily go back to stock when you come home. Was it really that long ago.
My dad talked me out of buying a '69 Firebird by letting me have his '75 Z1b back in 1979. Omg, that thing was so fast. I'd take all the suitcases and fairing off and go to the drags. He found out when I didn't hide the trophy well enough. lol Wish he was still around so I could thank him again for letting me have the coolest ride in HS as a 16yr-old.
@@kentuckyyankee the Givi setup is nice once installed but is a bit of a pain, and for US bikes, the relocation of the blinkers requires lengthening the wires, but Givi does not tell you that.
Hey man, do you still have the bike? I see you haven’t done many videos on it in a while! Really enjoy your videos, gives me inspiration to get motocamping here in NZ.
Hi all, how have you resolved the following: a) excessive RPM during warm-up ? ; b). snatchy throttle ? Thanks for amy & all responses. Enjoying Kentucky Yankee channel.
@@kentuckyyankee I've had about 3. The last on was a broken ankle bone. One was a high side that injured my shoulder. All were my fault and didn't involve another vehicle.
Yo good afternoon I enjoy your videos and I'll follow you ...are you planning on making any more camping videos ??and second question what kind of sheepskin are you using for your seat when your Kawasaki and where can I purchase it at for my bike.....
Heck yeah more camping videos as soon as possible! lol! Look on Etsy for sheepskin, I have a medical grade one on my Z900RS and a motorcycle type one on my Z400 I couldn't tell you what one I like better yet, still deciding. Thanks for following!
@@kentuckyyankee I have a 2012 Vulcan 900. Interesting fact that bike pulled me out of the Harley Davidson hole. I'm a very old Kawasaki fan, I'm a fan of team green. I have no intentions of getting rid of my Vulcan 900 I just want to pick up something a little bit more sporty.
ive seen people riding these bikes down logging roads swamping them lol its not a 40k$ Ducati just ride it you're gonna replace those pipes anyway and you do need a rad guard its like 30$
What a bunch of nosy bodies. Let them make their own videos and show us how its done. Oh, I didn't think so. PS, Blackj bars look great on that bike. Chrome makes less sense.
