I change mine every 2 years and I will never use tap water. I used distilled water when I initially flushed the system out because I use Engine Ice in mine. Never run tap water through it because it has too much scale and other things like calcium and flouride and so on in it. Key is, drain and fill often and flushing is not necessary....

How's that Engine Ice working Does it keep the bike temperature down?
@scottmatzeder9162
@scottmatzeder9162 2 месяца назад
@@heavytraffic32 when moving the temp is usually 1 bar lower. It improves heat dissapation. The coolant takes longer to heat up and is much faster cooling down. Sitting still temps are about the same, except when the fans turn on.

Hello good video. Have a question did you manage to get all the mains water out the system as it can turn to limescale when hot.

Should of reconected the pipe, flushed it out with distilled water, start the bike remove hose. Repeat 3 times... You would rather have a little old coolent in the system than tap water. Just s sayn

Nice vid, appreciate it! Glad I watched first as I had no idea the old coolant would blast out like that! What year is your ZX?

@@ZX14RHedgehogWorkshop Thanks. I asked because mine's a '13 I bought as new leftover stock in '14, never changed the coolant, we're about to do a 4-day road trip. It looks complicated enough that I think I'll actually wait until I return to change it, then if something needs attention I won't be under the gun to correct it before the trip. Surely it can make it 4 more days. No overheating issues, so far 🤞 and I think the only other issue might be corrosion potential from old coolant. Mine has 12,500 miles on it and has lived inside its entire life, for what that's worth. Anyway, thanks, and now I'm watching your other vids 👍

@@jeffgehman8344 That was the first time I'd changed the coolant myself. I downloaded the Workshop Manual and just followed the instructions. 👍

Another job to do this winter, it's the bloody fairing I hate removing, a major operation on its own

Once you know where all the Fairing Fixings are and how it comes apart its not that bad at all. I think I could get the main bits off in about 20 minutes now I've done it once.

Does the bike always pull coolant from the recovery bottle back to the radiator if the radiator gets low??... in other words if my recovery bottle is always between low and full I can be sure my radiator is always full correct??.. only because it's a real pain to get the right side fairing off to take the radiator cap off and add coolant..Ty..
@ZX14RHedgehogWorkshop
@ZX14RHedgehogWorkshop Год назад
To be honest I don't know. I followed all the information in the workshop manual. It said the system will pull coolant out after a while.
@seatime674
@seatime674 Год назад
@@ZX14RHedgehogWorkshop That's what I was thinking because all pressurised systems will pull it from a recovery bottle I'm thinking when the radiator gets too low.....

When the system heats up the fluid expands. As long as you have it full enough so that it pushes all the air into the tank. then when it cools, the fluid contracts and that syphons the fluid from the reservoir back into the radiator. if you don't have it full enough to get liquid into the tank, there will always be an air gap and it wont siphon fluid from the tank. It will probably run hot too if it is lower because the fluid will be able to boil from the lower pressure too.. So if you hear boiling and the level in the tank never changes it is too low! fix that ASAP because boiling will leave more sediment than a little left over tap water. . . . . Next issue is the distilled vs tap water. Um once you add antifreeze its no longer distilled.(why are you flushing the system if it is so pure in the first place!) It helps to use distilled but as long as you get the tap water out of there this video should work fine Same thing if you use a chemical flush. Did you see how long it took for it to run clean? you are definitely leaving flush behind if you only fill and drain with distilled. So it is up to you to pick the lesser of two evils..@@seatime674

The best option for you guys is to change whole bike each two years. Do not wrench on motorcycle because you will kill yourself. This guy here made a rocket science from coolant change. You can hear in his voice that he is not sure in anything what he is doing. Wisit your local carmechanic garage or Kawasaki workshop, do not do anything on your bike if you do not have experience, you will hurt yourself otherwise.

Thank you so much for the very constructive criticism. Lots of people including myself can not afford to spend that kind of money every 2 years. It took my 5 years to save money to buy my ZX-14R. I took it to a professional Kawasaki Dealer and they made a mess of it. This is what inspired me to make this channel. If you read the "about" page on my channel , which you obviously have not , you may understand it a little better..
