That’s music to my soul John, yeah anything orange captures my attention, next will be a baseball cap. What aspects of them do you personally like best?
Man you're smashing the k's on this trip, and it's not forgiving terain. Enjoying following adventure, every video is quite enticing to see how this all pans out. Great thing about being deer country is canned food left in huts from being choppered in supplies. Great video can't wait for next one.
Hey bud, thanks for your loyal watch. I’ll let you in for a secret, day-4 was my biggest day yet. I’m pleased the series is pulling you along, (see my forgotten five series) it’s a risk that viewers might get bored with the same ranges. You are right, the hunters leave heavy glass bottles and heavy food like rice so they can keep their choppered venison weight limits inside the tight tolerances. The huts need scavengers like me to carry the crap out 😆
Well done Dave. Have followed u from the beginning. Really enjoy your vids. I note you r carrying the walking pole - perhaps initially for your tent - but appears to be a good aid for u too? Im on the wrong side of 60 now and recently started using one and have found it great having that extra contact with the ground and stream crossings as my balance is not what it once was. Did u find it useful?
Thanks for your loyal support. Yes the pole was for my pole-less tent but also because of the predicted river work. I need one hand free for camera work but one pole may have helped. I give my age away in the video (subtle) we are not that far apart 😉
Enjoying the series and looking forward to the next video. You are starting to slow a little and that usual spring in your step seems to be fading. It's a BIG trip and some tuff country, so not surprising.
Thanks bud. Yeah day three seemed tough, not enough real food but it was a good weight loss exercise, day 4 being 29km was way better after that scavenged meal. I’m upto my neck in renovations again (priorities) so the channel needs to be put to one side due to time restraints. Sadly both the channel and it’s creator are struggling with the poor viewer support not being representative of effort invested, though I am really missing not being out there, maybe I’ll not film 😱
@@OutdoorsmanDave Yep, I definitely get the reward v effort thing on YT. Kaimais are currently closed, so you're probably better to do your slumlord stuff until things get back to normal.
@@OAPAdventures It’s actually my home, skylight, new down lights, insulation, paint out most rooms & new flooring then it’s the new bathroom at bach so yeah I’m busy, happy wife happy wife stuff first.
Lovely to hear, what aspects did you personally enjoy the most please? Day-4 is big, I just ran out of day. More exciting, I get in a fare dinkum wild-camp and get a little reflective 😊
@@OutdoorsmanDave Hard to put.a finger on Dave. I like seeing the decision making, navigating the trails, the huts and cooking. Even trotting off to the dunny with the bag of loo paper (and the toot). Feels like we are along for the tramp. Sorry but also liked seeing that you are human and got a bit weary. I'd be dead and buried with those kms.
@@rosalind1048 Look I really appreciate that feedback it’s very helpful for me. So I’m hearing you like to see I’m real, enjoy the teaching aspects and the toilet toot, this is a cheeky feature of my videos along with when I remember to do it is tree hugs and Highs and Lows which you’ll see in day-4, thank you again for your feedback. 🙏
Hey, are you using electrolytes throughout the day in those big days in the sun on the tops? It's easy enough to make them (table salt, cream of tar tar and epsom salts) and carry it with you. That and a magnesium pill at the end of the day will really help with recovery for the next day. Also found keeping the sun off with something like the Hunters Element Eclipse hoodie (bamboo/synthetic) really helps. Have you had a look at getting a Garmin inreach for these trips? Well worth it from a comms perspective
Use electrolytes in bottled water, (is cheap from chemist warehouse ), manganese tablet after hike, carry PLB, the orange uv shirt is a hoodie for sun if need be but I wear caps. Just don’t have an inreach…yet. Thanks for thinking of me. Ps on my Maungatautari adventure I forced myself to get cramp, watch video and see why.
Bases covered. Just concerned you'd worn yourself out. That's a really tough route. The Kiwi Hut climb in itself is rough at that time of year in the sun!
Hey bff 👋 yes great weather, not as hot as our brutal day 2. I will admit, I was tired, I don’t think the dehy food was providing the energy for the terrain BUT I did loose the desired weight.
Thanks Greg, are you referring to my most loved Garmin Fenix 6? See for the unboxing ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e0hMLTAuiZk.html You’d be looking at a 7 now if buying new ka-chin
Been enjoying the series Dave. Loved the Minecraft comment, looks like a more preferable Te Puke than the one I'm used to 😂 and a 6pm knock off sounds fine by me. Cheers
Hey Jess, have you been in this deep? it is so remote, I loved it. I would have been in trouble had I continued past Harkness, there was nowhere to camp and 32 river crossings which at night would’ve been risky even for me. Rata was great company, though I have a way with strangers becoming mates 😁
@@OutdoorsmanDave I would definitely eat it also. I would have cooked up some of that rice for a big feast. Video seemed a bit different Idn what exactly but I liked it.
@@AbelandVictoriaI’m really pleased to hear you’d eat it too, I was concerned you were a little high living to survive with us grungy woodsmen. I know why you liked it…I talked the whole time….sorry. Glad it didn’t rain on yours Mr algorithm chaser 😊
@@OutdoorsmanDave I drank olive oil, whey protein and orange just almsot exclusively to gain weight when I was a student. I am not a stranger to such things lol. Tbh I wouldn’t make camping videos if I was chasing an algorithm. Anyway algorithm is only designed to keep people watching. I want to make content that is watched so will throw some shit at a wall and see what sticks. I like it when you talk. I bet you have some great stories to tell
