I dont see where the criticism is coming from when he does collabs with the real brand/creator and only "vandalized" posters when he was coming up, which look absolutely sick in my eyes. You didnt do what he did ... he put his signature on other's work. You're putting someone else's signature on your own work. You sold shirts and garnered interest because people thought they were getting his work.

Your video explains KAWS concept of Original Fake pretty accurately... but your delivery of KAWS concept onto your Push Products completely missed the mark/concept. KAWS rehashed old pop cultural icons to into new with his trademark illustrations, Push didn't rehash KAWS illustrations into your own PUSH style, you added a logo and that's like copying someone else's signature to make it look like yours.

...you're comparing two different processes. risk? kaws builds his signature onto famous iconic images and he puts at least some creativity by working his style onto modern day icons and works that play and send messages about society. appropriation in art has been used in post modern work for a long time in order to be provocative and set statements. you've literally taken his signature and just put it onto your logo. not the same thing. people will see 'your' shirt and associate it with KAWS. so really, you guys are the only ones ripping off here. in the end, the message you're trying to convey is that people will apparently buy it anyway since you've copied his iconic imagery and instead the $$ goes into your pockets. no creativity.

Like any other artist that was born in the same era, there's not much uniqueness in kaws works(for artfolks who's already getting used, knows/getting exposured often to the whole contemporary art scene). what he does aren't new, cultural appropriation mixed with pop culture reference. He was part of a generation, belong in the same pool of street art that become sort of a movement, just like shepard fairey, Ron english, or even Banksy or blek le rat. What differs between what you've done here and them, are; they usually playing with pop culture, deconstruct corporate imageries, advertisement, having tendencies against capitalism(atleast at their young early career), anarchism etc, that's what their subject matter choices for the most part. not hopping and jumping a bandwagon of other artist works(let put aside banksy-blek le rat case, or any early streetart parodies on popular artworks, which completely different on what you've done here, cuz it's already been done, it became so sour). What you do here is similliar with what banksy perform when he putting his works at museum, which are great art statement, a rebellious art performance itself. the difference are he against this old notion of museum authority, reintepret what the meaning of art and what exactly a public spaces are, while you are just being provocative and kinda craving for attention by using that same method that artist using. You use this method, instead towards more a greater concept, or exploring creatively, you using it against that same artist!, it's feel redundant(i'm not gonna say it shows you bening plagiators, cuz there's no such things that shows) and banals, and it's not healthy for your growth as an creative artist to do this kind of works. please take my criticsm as a constructive ones, nothing personal. i definitely enjoy your research and effort to make this video, it shows a talent and hardworks to make ones.

Holy shit. I just had an epiphanie. You know how people usually hate knockoffs because they are just copies with a slight twist? People try to go for the "original" authentic version. Apart from loose copyright laws the social stigma of knockoffs kept designers away from getting a knockoff popular. KAWS, though, he took that concept, and made a "knockoff" which has its own twist, but since that TWIST is recognizable and pretty cool, he used the "knockoff" stigma to actually take advantage of that loophole.

This isn't the same, you're doing it wrong. KAWS takes other people's art and makes it his own and he actually collaborated with other artists. Similar to the lo-fi, SoundCloud, remix, vaporwave, etc music genres of today. You're taking your own art and making it look like KLAWS but you're the one taking all the money.
