also, especially in spring which we have just entered their will usually be alot of smaller males 30-40cm sitting with one big breeder female 60+ so if you catch lots of little ones make sure your keep peppering it
Welcome to the world of kayak fishing Briggsy! It opens up so many options that you can't access land based (or sometimes even in a boat) Some things that I would recommend you add to the kit as you get yourself set up: A landing net, a stakeout pole or small anchor and a length of rope to help you drag the yak or tie it off. Also, a PFD because accidents happen and it's better to have it on and not need it, than to need it and not have it on. 😎

My wife bought me a yak a year ago which is the best present for a fisher person. We will be moving to the water in three weeks so I’m keep to see if I can catch as many flathead as Oka. She put you to shame mate in the hook up rate but it’s cool to see you guys share and enjoy the adventure together. Cheers for the great clips and tight lines guys

Great video Briggsy, you need a sponsor to send you a filleting knife, get Daiwa on it. An old face washer is also handy when you are grabbing the flathead, otherwise you will end up with hands like very sore pin cushions

Happy BD mate, watched the whole hour, loved it. For estuary stuff I use my SUP leash to hold my yak, either on my leg to cast the flats or secure to an anchor point as you did. Great vid. Cheers, BobbyB.

Very good video, my type of fishing, next time use a yabbie pump, pump some yabbies and have an extra rod with bait. I reckon you'll carve up with yabbies their, it's too good to be true !!!
If they are hitting the top water but not hooking up maybe try stopping it after you get hit and just giving it a few tiny little twitches. This should keep the lure in the zone longer and make them think they have stunned the fish. Good luck and good video mate!

definitely do that the hookup rate is much better. You probably already know this but whiting are very aggressive in shallow water, they love a moving lure. They tend to shy away a lot of the time if you pause it.
If she is gonna become a serious angler, looks like that's the case, she should be taking the hooks out too! BTW....she had as good a teacher as one could ask for! Yakety Yak! Yakety Yak! You are going to have SO much fun with that thing!!!! Excellent gift!!

Hi Mate, Cavy's stuck in indo, Brooksy's in the right state for the trip and I'm in the wrong state cant get to him and the cameraman we plan to bring is stuck in NZ! So we're real keen to do another MTF film but everyone except brooksy's stuck in the wrong state or country haha

When you catch flathead, if you flip them upside down so that their neck is slightly bent they will be temporarily paralysed, I’m not sure if there paralysed or just asleep but once you flip them back over they will be completely fine and will just swim off. And if you get a pvc pipe that will fit in the plug holes of the kayak you can use it to anchor your self in shallow areas
Keep them in the water you catch them in, never add fresh water, just washing the flavour away. Thanks for sharing your top day out, being able to share with your lady is special. No more singing please hahaha
Sugapenn is the best. Bream from weed edges pack attack them. Also nailed a 40cm Aussie bass with it, good all rounder. Also might need to add the missos name to your channel she’s killing it !
I love watching your videos especially when you're fishing with your girl. It's so awesome that yall can share something like fishing and enjoy it so much. I love to fish and would love to catch a flathead one day. We don't have those here in Texas but we have flounder which are so fun to catch too. Keep it up.

briggsy with a yak, awesome. mate for ur self and the fish the shimano environet-small is a top option and doesnt take much room in the yak, there r other options as well. the fish can stay in the water while u take the lure out and also a quick pic before release or catch n cook. also a couple of metre rope for tying up or tethering the yak to ur self while walking. cheers.
One of your best videos! What you did with the food prep is hilarious/awesome. That Kayak is a next level gift, giving a fisherman a boat to fish from! Actual best gift ever category. Awesome new toy man! if your using top water just cast a few meters behind you and let it sit while your rowing to a good spot. you never know what you may pick up. the more time in the water the luckier you get :P
