Today I got back on the kayak for the first time in awhile. Greg and I went fishing for sheepshead with live fiddler crabs and were able to land a few. Its still early in the season and fishing is only going to get better. Make sure to check out Gregs channel for some of the best Redfish action. He's the master!

They are available right now, but as sheepshead fishing heats up, they’ll start getting tough to come by!

@@BeardedBrad92 yep... all the usual suspects in GS and OB were sold out of fiddlers this morning. Bought a few frozen specimens in Florida. After they thawed... man were they stanky! No bites at 59 bridge... Probably switch to chase and cranka artificial, see what’s happening around the Pass tomorrow.

I’m confident I’ve never seen anyone INTENTIONALLY grab a fish by the eyes. Is that a good idea for a fish you might throw back if not legal? Seems like there is significant risk to the fish. Correct me if I’m wrong...

@@SaltyMcCroryFishing I just spoke with a marine biologist. They encouraged people to understand the MASSIVE difference between covering the eyes and touching the eyes with your hands. Basically, never do either, but if you have to do one, never do it with your fingers. And NEVER grab a fish by the eye sockets that you intend to release. He used the word "barbaric" to describe the practice... just saying.

@@hockeyinheaven can you quantify the term “massive” with real world data from research based studies that proof this hypothesis that you are presenting to us? Also can you proof that you’re alleged allegations that Brad “intentionally” grabbed this fish by the eyes with malice intent and desire to cause the fish harm?

@@SaltyMcCroryFishing I'm no mind reader so I can't speak to "intent." I've never seen anything from Brad that would make me think that intentional or unintentional harm has ever been a part of his work. From everything I've seen, he's a pretty upstanding guy, though I have never met him personally. Personal research, no. I just spoke with another marine biologist, this one a faculty member at USA here in Mobile. He said that "covering" the eyes produces a sense of calmness in the fish. Grabbing the eyes puts pressure on the brain and decreases the ability for them to respond because of the stress on the nervous system. He said the only time they use the technique is for dangerous fish (stingrays was the example he used). I was just asking the question. I'm relatively new to saltwater fishing and want to make sure I'm doing the best for the fish I release.
