I remember when I only had one yak, and 2 rods no milk cate, blackpak or anything and I was killing it, always took my limit home. Now I have everything and the bite is not the same. I'm going to make my setup simpler. Thanks for sharing
I hope I never walk up on someone trying to steal my outback from my truck bed. It's locked up but they are going to catch a bullet before they catch a fish in my kayak haha.
Really appreciate the tips on theft deterrent! It's seems to be an increasing number of people here reporting kayak theft . Also thieves who hang around launch sites so they can break into and even steal your vehicle.
BloodSweatnBass .. Theft isn't a huge problem around here, but I still take precautions. On the road, my truck and boat trailer never leave my sight and I shop beforehand to minimize stops. I use fairly busy boat launches. In remote areas, I launch the boat near a place I can leave the truck safely (gas station, country stores, etc - with permission).
Did you say bare minimum? hahaha I'm just as bad. I'm a little bit more scaled down because my livewell replaces a cooler. The downside to my system is that if you catch a big fish like a snook or grouper you have to start paddling it home right away. It'll live for a couple of hours. Now I've kept up to 3 nice size snappers in there no problem even jacks for shark bait for up to 8 hours of fishing. Also when I go out there I go for a very specific fish, bringing with me only the tackle I need for that fish. Catching bait before I even climb aboard eliminates the need for fishing bait out from the kayak so I don't have to bring gear for that. You do really well by bringing that radio out there with you. Something I've always thought of doing but never did. I do have coast guard on my cell which is an old button interface phone. Its strapped to my waist in a transparent free grace waterproof bag designed for water parks. Dude, I can't say enough good about this product. It spends hours under water when I'm wade cast netting. I can't believe its kept my phone dry this long. I use to use radio waterproof bags. The expected life span for the ones you get at west marine was like 3 months. I've been running this free grace for almost two years now and keeps your phone and id on you at all times. You might want to check that out since its so cheap to see if you like it.
It's really not all that much stuff. Watch closely. Beyond the truck stuff (straps, cables, etc - all stay in the truck), fishing rods (gotta have), kayak stuff (oars, anchor, etc), cooler (gotta have), and life jacket (he wears), *the rest could probably fit into his one milk crate.*
Yes, you should at least take some Band-aids. Best to make up your own kit with what you'll need instead of getting one of those pre-made ones that come with a bunch of extra stuff you'll never use. I got a 3 pack of various sized and colored dry bags from Walmart for $10. I dedicated the small red one for first aid and small survival items like a lighter and compass. If you leave some air in the bag when you seal it it will float if it goes in the water.
Thanks for the great info. Looking to buy my first yak. Found a used Riptide 14" raptor from 2016 but can't find much info on them. Have you heard of this brand? If so, thoughts? Thanks!
Dude, you don’t think you are carrying a lot of stuff? Lol. My Kayak would almost sink lol. Not really. I have a feel free 10 ft but I think you carry mucho gear, but I only fish fresh water and that would make a big difference if I fished salt as well. Enjoyed the video.

That first rod you spoke of I’ve got the same one with a 6000 battle original with 50lb braid and 60lb mono ande leader on it but still trying to figure out what I can use it for. I fish mainly inshore by gulf harbors west coast of Florida and normally fish for specs and snook in canals but see that rod would over power them. So what u suggest?
good information I try to keep my stuff to a bare minimum too. what do you use the yellow and white Drabill bucket for, looks like a container for crickets or other live bait
Hi, thank you for your videos. I am new to kayak fishing and I have never been offshore although that's in my plans. Last year I bought a OK Trident 13 that I'm rigging up. Is this a good kayak for offshore fishing. I'm asking this because there are no many videos using this kayak offshore. Also regarding fishfinder, is a hummingbird SI too much for a kayak? Thank you.
