Hey mate, bit late but awesome vid. I've never fished in Corio but used to work on the bay and it always seemed to be fairly calm. Might have to go and have a look at some point in the future

Corio and Port Phillip bay has great fishing. Most spots have a good range of snapper, flathead, whiting, squid, salmon and more. Heaps of vids featuring it on the channel. Thanks for the comment

You do better than me, I live in Geelong and go out there sometimes and only catch Banjo and the occasional flathead.

Thanks Paul. Yeah it can be hit and miss at times in some spots in geelong. When we used to go in the boat which was great as we could go a little further out and fish near the channel, and sound the shallows for whiting. Its much more challenging in the kayak and you have days like that were all you get is a few flatties and banjos. Ive even had days of cunningham pier we we have caught some amazing fish then bugger all in the boat. Thanks for the complement and for watching.

Great video mate, how far do you kayak out from the shore line when your fishing ?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 5 лет назад
Hi Adrian, Not to far out at all. Ive the conditions are calm enough then we will probably head about 500 meters out, if its a little choppy then we stay in real close. Often just fishing in depths around 4-5 meters.

Thank you, Avalaon boat jetty. We launch to the right of the boat ramp, there is a nice sandy strip which you can drive up to. I also filmed this same video at the location for whiting ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t4EkPPfQtZs.html

Hi mate - great video. Just wondering what sort of bottom you fish with the soft plastics and also how deep? I haven't had much luck with plastics in the bay but thinking I might do better if I fish a bit shallower and on soft sand/mud area? I have been trying either quite deep or over rocky reef areas.

@fishingmad 6 лет назад
Hi Henry I didn't have a sounder on the kayak but I'm pretty sure we were fishing depths of around 6 meters and yes it was a sandy flat bottom. Soft plastics will work at most depths, i like to drift to cover a lot of ground and to mix up the retrieve. Eg let is sit on the bottom with some lifts and pauses, and sometimes just a slow roll and go with whats biting on the day. I hope this helps heaps more useful information on our website www.fishingmad.com.au

What rod were you using for your bait rod
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 6 лет назад
The bait rod was a Shimano ironFist XT with a Shimano Nasci 2500 reel. Its a great general purpose rod 3-5 kilo 6 foot 6 ( 2 piece ) . I bought it just prior to being sponsored, thought id use it in the kayaj and landbase to tackle a whole range of species.

What do you think of the native water craft
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 6 лет назад
I really like it. The things that is great about it is the stability. I previously had a cheap kayak and was always worried about tipping it, I have never been worried about tipping this kayak and I go out in the bay all the time. I like the rail system, the chair is great and it handles really well, and i bought it originally over other options because it could go into reverse easily and the hobies couldn't.. I also like that its availble in 10 foot which is a massive positive for those who dont have a trailer or big car. It goes on my roof racks with no problem. The negatives would be the storage I think the hobies are a bit better here, the hobies are also a little bit smoother and the hobies have more easily accessible accessories. I picked up mine second hand so didn't have to pay full RRP these things cost similar to a new hobie. I love my kayak but if i was buying brand new i would also be having a good look at the hobie pro angler 12 for good measure.

Hey mate. How much does a kayak like that set you back?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 6 лет назад
propel kayaks such as hobies and native watercrafts can be quite expensive. A new Hobie PA 12 or Native slayer propel will prob set you back around $4000. Then there are accessories on top. There are some cheaper models out there but I have found there not as stable and components feel quite cheap. Often the best bet is to try and find a 2nd hand hobie or native watercraft that's still in good shape. Thats what I did. You can often find them for less then half the cost of original RRP. A lot of people buy them with good intentions then don't use and want to sell. Hope that helps answer your question.

Get a regular fishing kayak $500ish with a new gt petrol motor $200 from ebay, does a great poor mans boat set up.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 6 лет назад
Thats actually a great idea, nothing wrong with that setup you have mentioned. Just watch the stability with cheap kayaks. Thats the big difference I have found with the cheaper ones and more expensive ones. I had a cheaper yak a few years back and tipped it several times, which can be really scary out in the bay.

fishingmad dragon kayak and a gt motor for under a grand, very stable, serves me well. Happy fishing.

Thats a good setup, I agree that the wider dragon kayaks are great for the price point
