Severe whitewater sections, often also referred to as "core sections", usually have to be visited at the latest from the fourth (IV) whitewater difficulty level onwards before they are run. Especially if there are danger spots such as strong waves and rollers, undercutting or even siphons, or if the entire section is difficult to see. Often such a section should also be secured in some way, e.g. by having a "safety boater" waiting in a sweep to help in an emergency, or a person standing on the bank behind a receding step with a throw bag.
In this episode we look at how a white water section can be mastered, i.e. how an inspection, also called "scouting", could proceed as well as what questions should be answered. We give tips on how such a white water section can be paddled safely and quickly so that the fun remains in the foreground for all paddlers.
