Here's an update to this light you might be it's alot better and the Curtis alot nicer . Plus I improved on some ideas 💡 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mxz6wSUBN3A.html
Just finished making this about an hour ago. Great idea. Hoping to test it out this weekend. You Sir, are a genius. My son and I watch your videos regularly. He loves the talking lures but his favorite is the zombie. Keep up the good work. God bless. Merry Christmas.
I borrowed this idea and made my own. Better than some of the real expensive stuff we have down here in Australia. Thanks for posting, and keep the ideas coming.
Thank you for watching mate and for commenting and letting me know you like it , I really appreciate it . Hey just asking , have you watched both my Nav light videos , I'm just checking because I got 2 of em ones simpler than the other but both are great
parkinlotpimpin89 thanks I appreciate that buddy , I come up with that a few years ago and figured it might help some ppl ive got some more ideas ive done in the past i'l be posting soon thanks for watching
thank you...made one ,total cost around $5 had an LED in the junk drawer from ebay and some old speaker wire hose clamped it on the inside of my milk crate rock solid and bright.
Nick Henton yes Sir your welcome I've made several nav light this is one of the easiest and best ive used I'm glad it help brother , I'm about to do a couple more kayak DIYs soon that are also kool ones thank you for watching my friend
I made your kayak navlight and it turned out awesome. Thanks for a great idea. Some of my friends saw it now they want one. Keep it up enjoy the humor also. Mack
Thank you Sir , don't forget to point your friends in the direction of the channel. It's a great community we have and you and your friends will just make it better
I'm not sure if you used marine grade wiring or not (if you mentioned it I missed it), but that is probably something to consider. It would be a shame if all that work ended up failing out on the lake at night. I realize this won't be in the water, but most wiring shouldn't be in the water either. Marine grade wire is comprised of strand copper that is tin coated.
That's not a bad idea at all . I didn't really think about that . But ive made so many of those lights I never get to keep one for too long lol . Plus I enjoy night fishing on my Bissau as well just depends on what body of water I'm fishing
That sounds right , but I'l be honest the way most LED brake lights work is . If you hook it up one way, the tail lights work and if you reverse it the brake light comes on . Which is just more leds . Most the time since lights can be didnt , I just hook my wires to the battery and touch the light then switch em . That easy you can see which easy is better .
CHAD JOHNSON hey thanks for watching and the comment Chad I've made 1 with a nav light on top and a light under it that had a switch you could cut it off and on with , and I was thinking about making a new video about it . Stay tuned brother or subscribe I'm going to make it soon I just want sure if ppl would watch nav light videos in the winter . Would you? What's your thoughts on that idea
@@FishinNStuff I'm definitely wanting one that throws out as much light as possible. But I want to make it where the I'm not getting blinded so angling it in the right directions is a must.
Whaa...whoa....wait. we don't need those nipples, we'll grind em off? WTH, I almost spit coffee on the screen. We always need nipples man! I'm very impressed with that awesome light. Outstanding DIY project.
Adventure Outdoors you so funny I guess I could have said that diffrent huh lolol , I no matter in front of the camera like you for sue just trying to warm up to it , but I do love making stuff thanks for watching buddy it's very encouraging
I would have went one step further and put a rubber plug , boot , cap what ever you call them on the bottom of the light pole . Looks good have to make me a couple of them .
I just made one of these light. I like it!! But...I think I am going to redo it. Using a on/off/on (mini/micro) toggle switch to switch from high to low to off so, I can dim the light while I am anchored and fishing then flip it to high when moving or whenever I need bright light. Just need to get a switch and figure out how to attach the switch. I have a couple ideas already.
I already have a video about how to install a switch lol . I made a much better version of that light last year , don't get me wrong I like the original version too . Its so simple its hard not to like it but any way check this video out , I already figured out how to make it work really easily ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mxz6wSUBN3A.html
@@FishinNStuff Well, I'll be! Now, I have to get LED strips and a switch. 🤣 I did have a on/off/on switch and hooked up the 2nd bulb to make a high beam and low beam nav light. It worked just need to get some pipe now!
Man this is flipping perfect. This is a great idea and awesome build. I bought some some high vis led bumper lights that were on three foot strips with connectors at each end and the backing is that sticky shit. They are what I was going to maybe use inside the yak somewhere to give me good floor light in front of me when I hit a switch. That bad boy you got there would light everything around the kayak. I'm going to make one of those for sure. I was just about to pull the trigger on a flag light. I will add a orange flag under the light for day time visibility. A foot or two higher may still give good light but also keep the bugs much higher. This Winter is going to be fun becasue I am going to pimp out a new Old Town 136 AutoPilot. Informative video's like this one have me all wound up for my Winter build.
@@FishinNStuff Yep I just watched it and that is another bad ass video right there too. You got all sorts of good stuff on here. I'm going to buy one of those Old Town 136 Autopilot kayaks this Winter. That will be my first kayak so I'm looking at what all you can do to make a killer yak.
@@FishinNStuff I can't wait. My boy is coming home from the Marines in the Spring and we are both getting kayaks for fishing. I believe my other two boys will as well so I'm pretty excited.
Nice job. You can get little flashing lights that divers use they are cheap they will get you noticed are waterproof and good to carry on you if you end up in the water as well
Great video as usual. If possible, it would be nice to see some gadgets that fit on the bass tracker versatrack system. Stuff like cutting boards, rod holders, and even many plastic tackle box holders... Like those little white things. The versatrack system uses quarter inch carriage bolts to connect to. And they connect on the side as opposed to the top of the gunel. I think they could have thunk it out better but it is what it is
Thank you , I don't have a Tracker anymore but I still have a track system on my new boat and I have fine some already . They are in some of the hack videos
So are they just a bulb that goes in your truck to see inside or is that a tail light bulb. But that's bright. Ide like to make 2 or 4 of them to have fishing camping or even if I'm doing something in the yard at night. Very cool man thanks. God bless
Awesome video, just made one and it came out great! The only thing I didn’t like my first time out, is that the light pole sways back and forth. Wondering if it’s because I have the stock plastic Old Town gear tracks, or maybe the pole’s too long? Maybe an aluminum gear trac would solve this?
I like it. I really want a big tall light on my rig for night fishing, but the bugs here during the summer are SO bad. Haven’t solved that problem yet. Also, that little “listen” voice in the intro music? That’s from one of my favorite video games from the 90s, Legend if Zelda: Ocarina is Time. Kills me every time.
_Riot hey check back by im working in some cool DIYs and im going ti be doing some more kayak ones as well , if your subscribed click the bell so you'll know , I appreciate you watching brother
I can't say for sure . But your right about the 2 miles . The reason I'm not sure is because alot of the nav lights on boat aren't very bright in my opinion . But this DIY nav light is 4 x brighter than the one that came on my boat
What i have always done for daytime fishing was using one of those orange construction flags so that way i would be seen during the day great idea was wondering what was the cost to build it
Ive made one with an extra light for more light with a toggle switch , I was thinking about doing a video on it , but that light doesn't need a toggle switch , by law you can't be on the water without a 360 deg light on , the other light like you're talking about is nice too. I'll be doing that video soon
There's so many videos on making nav lights from 99 cent solar lights from Wal-Mart you know , thanks for watching always good hearing from you brother
Consider subscribing I've got some cool kayak DIYs I'm making soon , and I was thinking about making another kayak nav light that my friend uses I made him , either way I appreciate you watching and thank you for commenting I like knowing what ppl think
Aloha, quick question, looking at the LED light on Amazon, it says there is a dim mode and a bright mode- how do you solder it up so it just stays on the bright mode? Or am I over-thinking this haha...
It doesn't matter I determine which way to hook it too the battery by hooking it up . , one way the tail light only will work , the other way the tail light and brake light will work and that's the easy you hook it to the battery . It works both ways
Phillip McCutchen thank you Sir , and thanks for subscribing , I've got another cool diy kayak video im making soon and I haven't seen it on utube I think you like it too if you love night fishing like me
Thank you Linda , hey I made an updated Nav light like that one voor better you should check it out you'll like it better I'm sure ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mxz6wSUBN3A.html That's the link to it
This video was extremely edifying! I am wondering what was the name or type of cover you place on top of it at the end? I just ordered my first kayak last week and I'm totally into rigging this DIY job. Thanks!
Thank you Sir I appreciate that ex very much , I too love to make and do my own rigging , I didn't use a cover at all almost all LED lights are water proof but I never tested that one , I'm not normally night fishing if it's going to rain , I do have a fix you could do if your interested , you can buy the larger pack of epoxy from harbor freight I think it's 3 dollars , mix it up in a disposable cup , then dip your light into it that should protect it plenty good , hey buddy click the bell or just check back by ive got some more kayak DIYs I'm going to do and I think this year im going to make another cool NAV light I've made before soon . Well before spring any way
How long does the small battery last on a full charge running the tail light and an occasional switch on for the other light? (thank in advance) Great channel!
I've never did a bunch of tests , but I've ran those batteries 6 hours on just a nav light and it still had juice left , I've also went on 2 fishing trips during the day time running a helix 7 , before charging it and it never went dead . You can buy those batteries worth different amp hours I'm running a 7amh , you should watch this video Its a better nav light I made not to long ago ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-60CO4z7E-9A.html
Watch this video . Its better , maybe it'll be easier to understand . Its newer. The only real difference is I put an extra brighter light on it as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mxz6wSUBN3A.html
Couldn't figure out why the hell my light wouldn't work, then u watched your other video and seen that you had the red and black wires switched around.
No I didn't the fish finder battery is mounted in my kayak hatch . The light battery i just put it in my kayak box . I have another kayak light video that explains it better and its a nicer light too
@@FishinNStuff nice I’ll check it out too! I just finished completing my fish finder install in my small tarpon 100 LOL have a 12v in a waterproof case hooked up to the Garmin, and now looking at lights and I’m like, how am I gonna connect both to same battery.. never ends 😂😂😂
I use a deepcycle 12v like 7mah battery they are around 20 bucks on Amazon I saw some at walmart in the deer hunting section last weekend for 22 dollars they are deep cycle SK you can run em dead like a boat battery and I dont know how long they last because it's never when completely dead on me I use it for my 7" humming bird and I've used it 2 trips maybe 8 or 9 hours and it didn't go dead , hope that helped
Yep you got it . One wire on the bottom one on the side . Neg and positive don't matter because it'll work both ways one way will make the light work and the other will make the brake light work which is brighter , just switch en at the battery to fix em
I hope that helps if not let me know buddy . Hey check back by or click the bell I'm making another light soon that's an upgrade of this . It's brighter and works great ive made it before I was waiting closer to spring it's coming soon
It's on my first Nav light video I showed the package and all , but you can use any LED brake light , Amazon carts a lot of em ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-60CO4z7E-9A.html This is the other video
Yes Sir I use 2 pin connectors on my batteries , nav lights and depth finder , you can buy spitters so you can connect more than one thing at a time . Thank you Sir , I appreciate it and I appreciate you watching too , I've got another DIY navigation light and a kayak fishing light I'll be posting soon so click the bell or check back my friend
I use the small deep cycle batteries , Hobie makes a holder for em as a matter of fact here is a link and you don't have to buy this exact one just one like it www.amazon.com/dp/B003S1RQ2S/ref=cm_sw_r_other_taa_WJAVEbNG9FH1H
i have been thinking about a light for my catfish juggin boat...i am thinking of trying to find a whip-type antenna , so that i can bend it over and bungee it at the end , for when i have to go under limbs and stuff..........as usual , i only think about it when i see videos like this one.....it sure looks good there by the dock.........thanks.
re lee you could attack a short piece of pvc to the top of the antenna to hold the led light then wrap the wires around it down to the battery , that led brake light works amazingly well no matter how you make the pole , hey thank you for watching brother I'm sitting on some more kayak diyssoon just a little behind on a few other projects , if you like the nav light the others I'm working on are just as original so check back for em or click the bell so you'll be noticed
thanks FNS , you have some great ideas...i have just found your channel and have only watched a couple of videos so far , but i plan on watching a lot more....you are so right in not spending tons of money on stuff you could fabricate yourself from the junkyard and maybe a few high-tech gadgets you have to buy.........great stuff man , i will keep watching , thanks.
It was the same light used for the nav light with another light underneath it , had on/off switch on the pole you could cut it off while not in use because it killed your night vision and the bugs got bad my friend used it on the ground of his kayak he cuts it on top film then cuts it back off I can give you an idea of what it looks like ,,,,it looks like this nav light with this light. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xBGmbKH3DEc.html. Mounted underneath and a separate switch to cut it off and on the light was white of course
Thank you Sir , I appreciate that . Hey I updated that video with a new version of that light . It's even better here a link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mxz6wSUBN3A.html You'll like it even better , hey click the bell or check back by I've got some more kayak DIYs I'm going to be posting soon
What size pvc did you use and what bulb would you recommend? Something we're won't get stopped by the game wardens but won't attract a swarm of bugs LOL! Thanks!
Hey brother , watch this video I made a better one , it's kind of an update to that light and I go into more detail about those questions you asked , after you watch it if you still have questions i'l be glad to help you with anything you need to know about it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mxz6wSUBN3A.html
I hope that help ya , I had a lot of ppl asking questions so I made a new video , plus I made the light better . It's a really awesome light . I appreciate you watching and let me know id I can help you in any way
Pilot Automotive 1157 LED in White. Pep Boys has them. The package I got has a metal housing in it with wires already soldered to the housing, so I just cut the switch off and used the pre-wired housing that at the top of my light build. No nipple grinding or soldering necessary. I did have to hollow out the top the PVC pole with a sanding bit from my Dremel, but that was easy enough.
Hey thanks for that info brother , I haven't checked at Pep boys , the one I used at Walmart had that too , but I didn't use it cause ive made about 6 of em , everytime I make one a buddy wants it and I end up making me another one lol
I am curious as to the wiring on this. In your video it looks as though the black wire is the neg and the red wire is the positive but you but the black wire to the bottom of the bulb, which I would think is hot and then attached the red wire to the side of the which I would think would act as the ground. Can you please explain? Thanks
Good question lol it doesn't matter id the answer I only knew that because I've built like 4 of em I forgot to tell about it sorry . The reason it doesn't matter is if you hook it up one way the whole light will work , then if you switch the wires around only half the light works , the reason is because it's a led brake light half the light is the tail light the whole light being on is the brake light . Does that make sense
Ol and thank you buddy I'm going to make another nav light video before night fishing starts back with one I've make that had an extra light you can cut off and on for more light , you can't make a really brie one for all the time because of bugs
Thank you for your response. I am interested in thus light because we nighttime kayak fish down here on the Texas Coast and per Coast Guard rules we have to have a 360 degree light at all times. So I will be wanting to hook mine up so that it burns the whole bulb. In order to do that then I should just hook it up like yours? I also bought a socket just trying to have an option for replacing the bulb instead of super glue. The socket that I got has 2 black wires, wouldn't you think that those are both hot wires? If so, then would I need a negative wire?
Ive never tried a socket because the bulb last 50,000 hours , and you don't have to worry about hooking it up backwards if you hook it up and half the light works just switch your wires around if the door thing works for good
This is one of the LED Lights like I used . I bought mine at Walmart . You should watch my updated version . I made a new video and it was even better . www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY4T4BU/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_8QZ5R7TN53D7TS046CX4
it's a led brake light with 15 leds On the pack it says it fits 1157 2057 and 7528 any 12v led light would work I used the biggest I could find for more light but I would use led over a normal bulb for battery life Email me a photo bro I'll post on here , and click the bell because I'm making another video like this for a kayak fishing light idea I have I think it'll be cool
The pvc size was 1/2 " I'm pretty sure I alway take the bulb with me because pvc inside Dem change as I've learned lol even pvc and pcvc and the electrical pvc conduit are all diffrent even if they are the same size
Hey buddy I got time to look finally and these lights would work , Amazon has lots of different led auto brake lights that would work. newnightrider garner I use a small deep cycle battery, you can find em kn Walmart this time of year they sell em too run the deer feeders, or you can just search kayak batteries on Amazon and they will come up . But you should check out this video before making that light ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mxz6wSUBN3A.html It's a better version of that same light , but either Nav light works great
@@FishinNStuff thank you for that but im from Australia so have no i dear what you talking about if you can send a link where you buy them that we great and thank you for your reply love the idear
Im sorry mate , my mistake . Here's a link from Amazon of the type battery I is , you'll also need something to charge it with , a cheap charger will work fine . Fly Fishing Ninja well that battery will run my 7" hummingbird 2 fishing trips I've never ran it dead. Not sure about the light , I figure 2 trips or longer I would think the light pulls less than the death finder I've fished all night and it was fine id's a 7 or 8 amp hour battery
Erick Peterman yes you could but the light has a 50,000 hour life span which I'll never reach and led lights are water proof so it's really unnecessary and the point is to make it affordable as possible you know
Erick Peterman it is a great light , I was thinking the best way to protect it would be to mix you up some epoxy which you can get at harbor freight pretty cheap and after you make the light dip the whole light end in the epoxy and let it dry , that way it'll be very hard and ultra clear and that should keep it safe from any environment
Thank you Sir I think you'll like it , I watched a lot of these nav light video's and just could find one I liked I'm a lil picky . But I came up with this one and it work out so well I ended up make a bunch of friends 1 , so I shared it so they could make theyre own haha
