Excited to see the Dale hollow video!! We went below the chickamauga dam yesterday and caught some spots and smallies, your right about finding those seams!!
If premium fishing kayaks are puzzling the ole boys, then seeing one out on the river on a gray Dec. day, piloted by a young, tall, slim, long blonde-haired lady might send them to church.
Making do with what you have. In less-than-ideal weather conditions, less-than-ideal fishing equipment. Makes for a better fisherman it always makes you the best fisherman you can be?? Any day fishing is a good day, catching fish that day while you're fishing makes a great day, be it skipjack, stripers, trout it's all good. Great job young lady keep it up
well done.....skipjack is unknown to me...Wisconsin raised and living in North Texas since 1972..........have seen them used as bait for catfish on Kayak Catfishin, he loves them.....great video because its different.....
Kristine, When I got the notification and saw spillway. I said no. I imagined all of the gooney fishers I see on RU-vid who specialize in spillways. This is river fishing below a dam. Something I love and have spent a lot of time doing. I loved the dinner bell comment. I can take a break and wait for the water release horn/bell on my favorite river “Deerfield” you can see them emerge from under the rocks and start feeding. When the flow stops they disapear. River fish are the most fun, they are so strong. The striper was beautiful, healthy looking. I would have loved to see some of the trout. At least you were getting bites. I too would have hugged the wall at the dam. I bounce my offering off the wall and get most of my bites there. No better cover or current break than that wall for the fish.
Glad you gave this video a chance- I hope my content doesn’t resemble the googans in any way, haha. And I would agree- learning to how navigate rivers and read current has been a love affair for years. Thank you for the insight !
Kristine, There is no way you and the Drama Crew are in the same league. You are the real deal. You have a dedicated sub here. My sister and daughter love watching your videos with me. My sister has comited to fishing with me next summer as a result and she is not an outdoor or sports type person. It may not happen - that’s OK, I am happy that watching you can motivate her to think she can do this. Thank You!
You can rig those big skipjacks like a live musky bait on one of your heavy musky rods and do well on the big stripers. I usually troll up stream with a Rapala flat rap in clown or silver with a blue back. I ride the generator current down to where the stairs come down from the park, eddy out to the opposite bank and peddle my PA back up toward the dam pulling a big Rapala jerk bait for striper or a small Rapala jerk bait for trout. Have caught walleye down there too. You will get your exercise in if you stay in the current too long and don't get to the back current on the far bank. Riding the generator current down I like do drop a 1/4 to 1/2 oz jig with a 3 or 4 inch paddle tail straight below me and try and contact bottom. It usually will hook up on every drift with something. I like two generators running about the best for water level and current. More than 4 and I get off the river in my kayak but have run my canoe with a motor on the back with six generators running. More than three generators running I spend more time keeping the boat in the right position than fishing. If a sluce gate is open you will see a huge plume of water on the right side of the dam. It makes it hard to fish close to the dam. A sluce gate and generators makes some heavy waves that are dangerous for a kayak. I really love that area below that dam. I think it might be one of the most productive areas in KY if you are willing to put in the effort on boat control. Thanks for sharing Kristine.
Hey there... just found your feed and this is my first video of yours and I really love it. I am new to bass fishing and really want to get into yak fishing too. Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos. Cheers from Louisville, Mark
I am too from Louisville... you don't have to have a yak to catch good fish at this spot. Use quarter ounce bright colored rooster tails and you will catch 20" plus trout all day. especially november - march
I knew when it hit at 8:30 it was a striper. LOL I was there two days ago! No stripers that day but my PB trout day fishing from the bank at the raceway. So cool to see you working the tailwater. My favorite place to fish...little bit of everything incl big sturgeon along that wall (13:00) in there.
I kayak fish down there quite frequently. My favorite float is downriver from Rockhouse to Winfrey Landing. Last trip I caught 23 trout in 4 hours. The largest was 26". Most were. 20" plus. Nice work below the dam.
I love cumberland and dale hollow. Im from louisville, I fish a lot of kentucky lakes. Im doing this bkbf kayak series in 2020, and theres another kayak tourney on cumberland im doing as well. Last time i fished cumberland, i fished up by where the river turns into the lake. There was shad everywhere, i didnt do very good. They had just dropped the lake and the shad were going up in the creeks. The bass were still in their summer spots, off ledges and such, and I didnt have my fish finder on my yak yet. I feel you on the crazy looks. Ive taken my old town topwater pdl out on the ohio river and pedaled up to the falls of the ohio by the hydo electric plant going for striper. People thought I was crazy out there on kayak. One guy told me I couldnt be out there on a kayak. Then later when I went to shore I let him go out and pedal around on it to see how sturdy it was.
Well done, this might sound stupid but! tough bite with trout in current, Large Swedish Pimple on a spinning rod. You'll have to trust me & my 54 years of fishing. Looking forward to Dale Hallow!
@@kristinefischer2289 in the current they act like a flute spoon & their smaller profile helps with hook ups. I started doing this year's ago when I couldn't find a Super Duper (made by South Bend).
That's cool that you know Josh , he's the second RU-vid fisherman I started watching and following and his friend Ben Milliken had him on some videos and seen all their videos , I bought a lot of 6th Sense Fishing tackle and poles .
Change the treble hooks and it’ll help a little more lol. The ones that come on those spoons are sharp, but a sticky barb and sticky hook make a difference
Kristine Fischer it happens haha but still a good time and I’m super impressed with you staying up on the eddy in a kayak with water being released lol!
Oops just seen your win on pickwick haha I live in Florence so I get to use it quite often an Wilson lake. To bad I missed that would love to see you alls tourney
I’m laughing my ass off that you are friends with Stache Bag! I would have never put the two of you together. 🤣 I LOVE his channel. You know he would have a that skip jack head dangling off the back going after a “long dong kitty” while throwing a 6th Sense crankbait That guy catches more big fish out of mud holes than anyone I’ve ever seen.
Watching you on that kayak makes me even more anxious to pick my pedal drive up in spring! I bought a Radar 115 with the drive. If I win the lottery I might pick up the motor pod lol but dodging with pedals is the way to go, so much better control. Was out in my Pungo last week and hook m hooked a big walleye that room me for a ride, thought he was done, while grabbing the net he jetted under the boat, bent my pole and snapped it. Still landed him but darn it lol. Cant wait till spring! Nice fishing
Just watching made me want to take my boat out but it's raining crazy here. Too much hassle to bring a big boat out. Maybe I should invest in one of those yak. Is that a Hobbies?
I hadn’t watched whole video but near a damn in kayak seems very dangerous to me , I’d pay a lot of attention if you are up there alone good luck in the video.
@@kristinefischer2289 yeah that would have been awesome. I went down to our little river yesterday and didn't find anything, usually a lot of gar but nothing. Hope to start filming soon.
Great video!!! I was there on the Dec. 13th and made a video too! Those spoons are great baits but the factory hooks that come on them are not so great! I like to upsize to a #2 treble and put a split ring and barrel swivel to cut down on line twist. Cotton Cordell, Hopkins and Kastmaster probably my 3 favorite to use there. If you get a chance go check out my videos. Ive made a couple on the river in the last month.
Lmao, you called PigPatrol aka PornStache a spillway violator. He'd probably tell you to cut the skip jack up into catfish bait. Nebraska right now fishings tough, ice isn't quite here some lakes have it and others don't.
I don’t like a light action rod for 1/2 and 3/4 Oz spoons. This is a Moderate action which is my preference . A lot of the fish I was losing I believe were skipjack
@@kristinefischer2289 :. Long ago I was fishing with a guy who could have gone pro. We were on the river and got into sand bass with spoons. I kicked his butt with light action against his medium action. I didn't have to set the hook either. Also I'm in love. You my kind of girl.
