yeah Matt that's a rod float I think I got them at ack (Austin canoe and kayak) online store as far as yaks are concerned we have native slayer 12 foot we use them in rivers,lakes,marshes in SC, and even had them in the ocean I guess it's an all around good yak stable for standing my wife even throws her cast net while standing on hers. when we got ours we weren't really sure how much we were going to use them so we didn't get the foot powered model but looking back I would definitely go with the foot powered yak I installed trolling motors on ours to use for trolling and long runs hope this helped and looking forward to those sharks
