Awesome idea and execution, thanks for sharing. Perhaps a mount could be carved/drilled out of a big block of PVC wood/HDPE? I'd imagine it would be able to handle the thrust...
I just about wore out my Newport Vessel 36.....So I altered a second one. Because of the plastic moulded bracket on these motors, I didn't think the motor bracket that I made for my pescadore pilot would be interchangeable. However the newer motor required only minor fitting . I was surprised. So, the dimensions of this bracket may actually be useful to some of you.
I’ve got the same kayak and really like the bracket you’ve made for a trolling motor, is there a chance to buy one from you? Or some pictures, or measurements how to make one? Thanks!
To tell the truth.....I spent an unreasonable amount of machining time on this. And....it only works with a Newport-Vessel trolling motor. But...I'll help you any way I can.
Quick question...noticed its machined out of aluminum but that stiffener piece that the wick side passes though...is it tapped and set screwed on the bottom? More photos of mount please....thanks!!!
Mac.. Nice work. Does your locale require any registration for a motorized boat? Or do you simulate paddling when the local constable comes by lookiing to "tax" you by giving a ticket? (In California, I got a $400+ ticket a few years back at Lake Almanor for putting a small trolling motor on my Costco Inflatable rubber boat.)
I like what you did. When you slide the prop back up through the opening, is there a trick to lining up the blade so it’s vertical and will easily slide up through the opening?
Which trolling motor did you use to modify? The bracket you attached to motor is aluminum? Could you please give some insight on measurements of bracket?
Mac McDowell I am making / fabricating something after your video. I hope for generic measurements if that is possible? Maybe a photo? hicsurfin@gmail.com
I was wondering if a trolling motor would fit down into the drive well. I’ve got to try to figure this out. Which is your primary steering, the rudder or the motor?
