Yeah, it's cool. I tell him it's the La-Z-Boy of kayaks. He uses that solar panel to charge the batteries that run the fridge in his van also. He's got a knack for electronics.
Thanks for the video. New to kayaking and Southwind was my first rental. I also rented at Aquatic, since both were sit on tops I went back to Southwind, got a sit inside and much longer. Tried to paddle out to open water but it was too far, want to see seals, maybe next time.
Harbor Patrol launch is cool because it is closer to the ocean and has cleaner water, it is close enough to fun zone and eateries to have brunch there and paddle back for novices, It's also very secluded, I have spent most of my covid days there. Has a public area for washing of your stuff. Gotta have your own equipment though which most people don't have. Disadvantage is parking is limited and you will end up hauling your equipment a bit further. Overflow parking available on the street. The aquatic center is great for heading over to the back bay bistro for a drink at the bar or chilling on the outside deck over looking the bay. Also aquatic center is good launch for seeing events at the Newport Dunes resort which they often have during summer time, bands, djs, drinking festivals
Right. Harbor Patrol is probably my favorite spot if nobody needs to rent. Clean green water. Also, even when there is not parking in the parking lot, it's easy to drop your gear right on the sand and then go look for parking on the street. Not the best spot if you wann swim though because there's a lot of grassy seaweed in there.
Great footage. Especially the drone shots with kids jumping off bridge. Been there a few times and tried getting some footage last time but we were fighting strong winds that day so we cut it short. Thanks for sharing.
I dont remember if there were any lot closure hours. I know I've been there as early as 10am and probably left as late as 10pm and never had a ticket. People usually hang out on that small beach well past dark. There is also street parking. The opening from the lot to the beach is a red zone, and clear of cars, so i always back in and drop my kayak and gear in the sand and then go park so you don't have to carry it as far. They have never given me a hard time about this as long as I do it quick. Good question.
Gotcha I'm headed down there tomorrow for some rockfish but I'm coming from Riverside so I'll probably be down there around 6 just wanted to make sure I wasn't sitting around till they opened or got ticketed!
