My wife and I returned to the Rideau in 2024 for a weekend of kayaking. This video is short extract from our Sunday trip from Sand Lake Marine to the Davis Lock Station and back.
For those that don't know, the Rideau Waterway, aka Rideau Canal, is a Unesco World Heritage Site. It's a 202 km long waterway that is navigable by boats/ships with a draft of up to five feet. It runs from Kingston Ontario to Ottawa Ontario. Along the way it uses and enlarges natural rivers, lakes, man-made canals and dams, and has 49 locks - still manually opened and closed and still in the original 1832 design of wood, stone and steel.
