What time of year did you do this? I want to do the same trip but I hear whispers of an informal agreement with fisherman to stay out during the summer months?
nice paddle, done many white water rivers but trying to do more flat water to chill solo these days. Did you have any access problems in lambton estate. The game keeper has been known to pick issues with kayakers.
I’ve heard about the game keeper issue before. I know company’s that run this route also avoid lambton estate too. I’ve ran this route twice went through the estate twice and I’ve not been stopped collared or in anyway harrassed on the route. Can’t say that you won’t though
Brilliant that, been looking at getting an inflatable kayak for myself, wife and kids. Was looking at Falfield to roker, how long did it take you? Any advise for the trip?
Takes me about 4hrs from Chester to Roker. However that's on a hard hulled boat which is faster, but fatfield is considerably shorter distance. Personally unless the day was very very calm i wouldnt go past the a19 on a inflatable. The new spire bridge section is very hard with it being so open the wind just beats you about. I did it again after this trip with some freinds and the marina to the beach section was very hairy. Fatfield to the a19 though would be a lush paddle and you'll get alot out of it :)
Honestly didnt think I'd find anyone doing this! I'm planning on doing Penshaw to Roker sometime soon, but it does make me a little nervous. Ive been in the sea at roker a handful of times, but as i have an inflatable kayak (Itiwit 3) I've been a bit dubious about doing the river.
@@TheGrayExplorer I end up doing south Hylton to Roker yesterday, it was pretty good... Decent weather, little bit of wind under the bridges but I'm guessing that's regular! Definitely gave me more confidence to do it again from further up.
Great video, enjoyed watching it, especially being from Sunderland. Considering a sit on kayak but never done it before and I'm not a strong swimmer, not sure if this video has put me off or encouraged me more to get one lol. Cheers for posting this.
+Les Watson they is a good company called Alexander adventures based in Newcastle that do taster sessions on the river at Chester le street (where I started this video) 100% recommend those guys. At least then you can do it in a controlled safe environment with there kit to see if you do like it. Thanks for watching
+Paul Forbister there’s a old canoe centre on the south bank half way between the a19 and the new white bridge. However tbh there’s loads of places to get out along that way. The worst big of this journey is the approach of that new bridge you’re not protected by cliffs so you just get battered by cross wind It’s pretty safe until the marina from there on
High john what are the wiers like before you enter lord lambtons estate, can they be portaged? I done fatfield to roker on my paddleboard but want to do on my kayak too. Cheers Simon
Nice one. I'm from Blyth and looking to buy a sit on top kayak. Watching adventures like yours gets me closer to doing just that. It's great to see a local area from a different perspective. Thanks.
Couple of weeks after I shot this, a couple of friends and I redone the same route. One of them was on a SOT Kayak. Its definitely doable. Thanks for watching, and good luck with your own adventures :)
I just live in Whitley bay and have been everywhere in mine , from west coast Scotland to sea fishing near St marys lighthouse.. the river in amble is a great little mission so is sheepwash just near Ashington as some days you can get all the way to Bothal castle. Go get one 👍
@@TheGrayExplorer I did it. Feelfree Nomad Sport. Been on Wansbeck, coquet, Blyth Beach, the Lakes all in 5 months. Love it. You helped to get me out there. Thanks.
Me and a pal once did Chester le Street to Washington viaduct. It took 4hrs. We had a kids spade each from a bucket and spade set to use as paddles. Haha. We are both going to buy a single kayak once the spring arrives and attempt the journey again. Cheers for the video.
@@chriswright2366 I mean hopefully. I tried to get in the Tyne a dozen times last winter and there was only enough water for one trip. It’s a big problem at the minute
Love the vid m8. I'm local and was wondering if this is possible using an inflatable canoe? I've just bought the itiwit 3. I was thinking of starting somewhere closer to Durham and finishing at South hlyton.
