Thanks for the analysis! For me, the most interesting things in the new visuals of KDE 6 are the new style of the task bar, the floating panels (with that transparency), the more rounded shapes (it even should be more rounded, I think so) and the Alt+Tab visual result. I would like Kubuntu 24.04 had adopted KDE 6 and I have considered using OpenSUSE Tumbleweed in order to use KDE 6. But thinking twice, I really need stability in my OS and Tumbleweed is rolling release, so I quit the idea and chose Kubuntu 24.04.
Good idea, I'm currently using fedora 39 as main Linux distro, I will wait some month before upgrading to 40. But I will evaluate too if I install Kubuntu 24.04 or stay with fedora. I tried KDE neon with KDE 6 for one month, and it was nice, but KDE 5.27 is nice too, so I decide to switch to Fedora. I will evaluate next fall if I stay with Fedora or wait Debian 13 for example to start using KDE 6.
@@benlinux-en Updating: I switched to Kubuntu 22.04. This because I faced troubles on 24.04 (it didn't reboot correctly in my laptop Dell 5490, didn't offer native support for app image, didn't offer support for the webapp-manager app from Linux Mint PPA). I considered that KDE 5.24 almost the same of KDE 6, so I engaged to Kubuntu 22.04. Unfortunately, I had to install Ubuntu Software Center to manage flatpaks and snaps, but I consider this a minor issue in face of the benefits of KDE environment. And I sincerely understood that it's not a good idea installing a new LTS distro because of compatibility issues. So, in my opinion, it's generally better stay in the previous LTS distro.
Great review . KDE Plasma 6 is pretty solid compared to KDE 5 at launch . Many small bugs fixed with Wayland integration and definitely working well with Lutris and Steam.
@benlinux-en Wayland support sucks, there's artifacting when moving cursor. The blur sometimes jumps without smooth animation Window edges are rounded on top but not properly on bottom. Sometimes the title bar is buggy and the text of window name is pixelated from wrong aspect ratio. Its not as snappier as i remember it was about 2-3 years ago. This adds up when some of the design choices are so archaic. How is kde behind GTK in modern design baffles me.
