FAQ:
Q: Can you do a tutorial on X?
A: Probably! Just fill out the form right over here. For simple questions that don't require a video though, feel free to ask :)
Q: How did you learn how to edit with Kdenlive?
A: I started as a full-of-free-time-and-motivation 15-year-old. I just tried all of the effects, and spent a lot of time experimenting. I also watched tutorials on other softwares sometimes.
Q: What Kdenlive version are you using?
A: The lastest appimage at all times (might take me a week or so to switch sometimes), so it depends on the video. Right now it's 20.12.3. For most of my older videos, it's 18.12.
Q: What OS are you using?
A: I'm using Debian, on the unstable release. But I'm no Linux expert so I can't tell you much more.
Q: Can you share your project file?
A: No, sorry, I don't want to. I believe in learning by doing, and my goal here is to teach you, not to spoon feed you. These take max 20 minutes to do, and you'll learn way more about editing with Kdenlive by trying it by yourself. (although maybe if you paypal me 100€, we can have a talk :p)
Q: Do you have a 'social media' account?
A: Check out my channel page, everything is there!

Well done! I think what I would do to make this more efficient for reuse, rather than having all of this in the main project, would be to have this as a separate template project, make the necessary changes to the text, render it out as a clip, insert it into the main project and then play the clip forward to draw the title and in reverse to erase it. You would of course need to do this for each different lower third, but it would let you easily adjust how long it stays visible and make the main project cleaner while maintaining consistent styling.

You can definitely do that! That's what i have for my intro and outro. You can also save it in the library

Thank you. Great video and great explanation. May I make a request? Did you figure out any way to gradually drop the speed of a clip and keep it smooth? I'm trying to make a gameplay video and there is this particular frame I want to freeze for a couple of seconds. I wanted to gradually slow down the video and then freeze, so I cut a 1 second partion of the video and dissected it into 4 pieces, assigning each one 90%, 75%, 50%, 25%, 10% speeds respectively. 1 second clip succesfully stretched to 2 seconds but the 25% and 10% ones are extremely choppy.

Hi! Unfortunately kdenlive doesn't do speed ramping, but you go that covered with the different sections. It also doesnt have interpolation between the frames, so since you recorded at like 30 fps, when you're at 25% speed, thats like 7 fps, which is definitely choppy, and there's not much you can do about it

In 1:51 you suggest to add multiple keyframes to create a smoother effect. I Suggest a systematic way to make this effect more patterned: Place the five keyframes in the same positions in the way the video shows. Then, for exemple, to move the picture from x = 400 to x = 0, set keyframe1 = 400, keyframe2 = 200, keyframe3 = 100, keyframe4 = 50 and keyframe5 = 0. This makes a kind of decreasing geometric sequence and simmulates roughtly a gravity deceleration. Additionally, to avoid overshoots caused by smooth keyframes, is recommended to add the keyframes from outside to inside, in the way showed above. Just a think... ; )

you could definitely do it with exact numbers, i just usually fin it easier to do it by feel

oh boy, i am totally lost on keyframes part of the video. the 'to the left' for the small rectangle is really confusing for me. I am moving the wrong amounts.... arg i'm tearing my hair out, this is really hard. wow this is really. i need to copy your exact numbers... this is really really hard i can't get my rectangles to move in the same position as yours. smashing my head now against keyboard... wow this is really hard. I can't 'control-t'. i updated to latest version of kdenlive on fedora.
@Arkengheist20
@Arkengheist20 3 года назад
So basically you want the movement to go fast at the beginning and slowly at the end. So the displacement of the frame from the beginning to the middle will be bigger than that from the middle to the end. And then same reasoning for in between frames

Thanks! Did everything but couldn't get the Alpha Shape functionality for the wider rectangle going. Will keep trying because this Lower Thirds example is better than using the Slide effect on identical clips on my own. Regards.
@Arkengheist20
@Arkengheist20 3 года назад
What was the issue? Maybe try copying the exact numbers i have in the video to have the rectangle in the right place, and check the mode
@MathaGoram
@MathaGoram 3 года назад
@@Arkengheist20 The Alpha shape "rectangle" is not visible. Something that I'm doing is covering up the "wider" rectangle after I apply the Alpha shape Effect. I did try with your numbers but the "wider" rectangle never shows up. The "narrow" rectangle (of course, using a different Effect) works perfectly (and gives a better understanding why you smoothed the Smooth). That was a few minutes ago! Now I understand! My Size Y value was too small. Increasing it to 800+ make the "wider" rectangle visible. I'm back on track tweaking the example for a better understanding (need more Alpha shape training, I guess). Thanks again for your guidance and suggestion.

@@MathaGoram oh yeah, alpha shapes is definitely not intuitive, it does take a while to get used to it

Actually you mention, in your video, the need to use a large value for Size Y but I was distracted between your HD project versus my UHD settings. I've just completed your tutorial completely. Thanks.

Hey! Very nice tutorial, looks really great! I was just about to finish, when i hit a wall at the end: In order to reverse the clips you reversed the keyframes by dragging them around. But somehow my Kdenlive doesn't let me drag a keyframe over another, it stops dragging when i hit another keyframe. Does anyone know why? What am i doing wrong, or is there a key-combo that needs no be pushed while dragging?
@Arkengheist20
@Arkengheist20 Год назад
I think they may have changed how keyframes interact with each other, which is very annoying... You can copy the keyframes with one of the buttons so that's sort of a fix

Nice tutorial again! I want to make one video with Kdenlive. Want to ask something: What is your computer's specs?
@Arkengheist20
@Arkengheist20 3 года назад
Kdenlive is one of the least demanding video editing softwares specs-wise, so you should be ok either way. I'm not sure what's interesting, but i have a laptop with 16GB of RAM, 4 i7 cores and a Geforce 920M accoridng to my settings haha

There is a way to save this set of effects to later use in other projects, as a template, to avoid to make all this every time I need to apply this set of effects?
