With Inkscape’s new multi-page feature it’s now perfect for creative KDP book interiors and covers. In this video, I show you how to use tiled clones to quickly create a book interior template - once you have made your template you can use it over and over to create as many book interiors as you like.
I’ll show you how to accurately set the margin sizes with guidelines then reproduce those guidelines on all your pages using Tiled Clones with the Symmetry set to PM: Reflection. I demonstrate how to lock all the guides in place and how to save the file as a template to use again and again.

Hi there, It's also handy to make just one page.. Save it as SVG and then drag that page into a document, Inkscape will ask what to do. You can select add as new page. So you are not stuck to just 4 pages, need a new one add one 🙂

Loved the video. It took me an hour to do what you did in minutes. Namely, it took me a while to find the Add Page button (had to click Create and Edit Documents, which I likely missed) and I didn't realize -.25 meant to subtract -.25 from my page trim level. What would clear things up for me is if the other values like y should be zero because mine weren't. Also, my box is black and yours is blue (something forums couldn't solve for me). I will be subscribing. I was expected to do Bleed, so it was a surprise to me that this is the setting for no bleed.

Sorry for the late reply, in the guides dialog box there is a tick box for relative changes, this should be ticked, so the values are relative to the current position. The colour of the box is the colour you set for the path, a simple way to change the colour is to click on one of the colour swatches at the bottom of the screen (while the path is selected) you can change the stroke colour(outline) by holding down shift and clicking on a swatch.

Thanks. This is the video that taught me to create my book in Inkscape. The rectangle and snapping was so useful. The only thing is that when the pages become many the file size is so huge it becomes slow so then I had to start another file.

I'm glad to hear my video helped. Inkscape does tend to slow down as your file size and complexity increases. As you've done, its probably better to produce large projects in section, then stitch them together at the end. So where can people buy your books?

I'm confused my inkscape version has the CMYK feature in addition to others like RGB...does this mean that It doesn't work or they added it lately coz I installed it like a month or two

To get it to work correctly, you need to do everything I do. So make the rectangle the same size as the page + the gap, then snap it to the mid points so it sits half across the gap between the pages. Uncheck the 'Use saved size and position of tiles' then create your clones. Then check the 'Use saved size and position of tiles' box - so Inkscape remembers the positions of the clones. You can then press remove, then follow the rest of the instructions and when you create you clones again they should be in the same positions as before so the spacing is correct.

what is the inkscape theme you are using?

I'm just using the dark version of the HighContrast theme with the multicolour icons, I've set the layout of my tool bars by going to View and unchecking the Wide Screen box at the bottom and I've enlarged the icons by going to Edit - Preference - Interface (click on the triangle infront to get the drop down menu) then Toolbars, you can tweak the settings there.
