Personally I don't know why "wearing your heart on your sleeve" is a bad thing and why the critics never liked them. There lyrics I always felt told real life stories that you can relate to. The reason why Keane is my favorite band is because they're honest in what they do. There not fake, they don't hide who they are as a band. They don't make stupid little pop love songs. Life is painful, its ugly, but there's always kindness and beauty in it and they've always portrayed that in their music. They can write about the most painful moments but at the same time tell you, its going to be okay regardless.
It's a very British thing,or at least a very perceived British thing...you're expected to have this stuff upper lip and soldier on regardless and as anyone with half a brain knows that is the absolute antithesis of transnormal non reality no matter how cogent your attempts to shrug stuff off!
I agree completely. But a lot of the reviewers that snubbed them were the cut rate reviewers anyways. British Magazines like Q Magazine always gave them 4 star reviews minimum on all their albums. Dumb magazines like Rolling Stone didn't really understand their music, because at the end of the day they couldn't fully wrap their minds around brit-pop. Their albums are all very complex and multi-dimensional, and I think the Europeans have always been better at understanding that.
What ever happened to simply enjoying music and its vibe? Whatever happened to simplifying? Whatever happened to being unbothered and just taking a breath? Whether music, movies, or books, critics are, all too often, demonstratively pathetic. While I might take a gander, I don't listen to the critics much at all. I pay attention to the fans because they're most often authentic in their assessments; they don't have a career to bolster or a need to sound "intellectually insightful." Some of the more entertaining critics have very colorful vocabs and can seemingly and carefully analyze and dissect every nuance of a given artist and their music. But truly, while some of that might be a professional feather in their own caps, none of that is needed. No one thinks like that when approaching music of any kind. We just chill and vibe. That's it. It's a mood. And while there might be an intellectual component in the lyrics, it's largely emotional. So, either we dig the sound, or we don't. Either the lyrics connect with us, or they don't. With Keane, millions connect, and Keane's music has withstood the test of time. Those are markers of a great band.
Not the best but the most true to what made them great, Coldplay are a far better band overall but they have a different skill, they keep completely relevant somehow, they gain fans as they lose them.... Keane are my personal favourite however.
@@HATTORI82 Its her opinion so for her Coldplay is a better band she’s not wrong but I get your point Coldplay is definitely more daring in terms of how they implement different instruments and they change their sound more often not to mention they are probably one if not the most successful British band right now but theres something about Keene that makes you come back for more just like you said it is one of my personal favorite bands love all their albums.😊
I would even go on to say the best of the British Isle bands in the last 30 years, including U2 which I really like as well. Keane’s music is magical. I always find it funny how they were eclipsed by Coldplay, I find Keane much better. Between those 2 I believe it’s just personal pref, but Coldplay probably is probably a wider range of musicality. I still listen to more Keane than I do them. But the Brits over the last 60 years have just dominated music, haven’t they?! Cheers, and thanks!
For me, they're twice the band Coldplay are but never got the equal recognition they did. Shame, but they are and still will be one of the greatest bands that's came out of Britain!
Coldplay opted to be involved with more mainstream artists and started making more mainstream music, though I still enjoy some of their stuff. Keane has managed to keep their essence after all these years and it’s what makes them more special to me too.
Dear Keane, please don't hate yourselves... Critics are inevitable when you became successful, it's impossible to please everyone. Keane is for those who get it, period. You are my all time favorite band precisely because of your honesty in your songs, both lyrics and the way they're sung by Tom, it's perfect. So please keep wearing your hearts on your sleeves! That's how you end up helping people which you would never if you were a more superficial band. That being said, thank you for existing.
I just love them🥰🥰🥰. Real musicians, and Tom s voice is 100% real☺☺, which is (now in 2024) something unusual, with so much pitch correction and software correcting voices that sometimes dont even need it. And Tim seems such a sweet guy. And Richard and Jesse are nice too☺
I'll be 60 in 4 months but as soon as I heard their 1st song I knew this band were going to be brilliant.. They are an absolutely brilliant live band too..
I was very impressed with this story, These guys r honest n straight, Luv them. Sending Huggs n Prayers to all wherever they r, somewhere only we know is my favorite song 🎵 🙏🙏🙏🤗🤗🤗🤗💞💞💞
How brutally honest of them and so refreshing, we all make mistakes and nobody is perfect, most of us aren’t even halfway. Love you guys and to hear you admit your failings in such a humble way has only made you go up in my estimation. Truly great song writing and performing, keep your hearts where they are, on your sleeves ❤
Ive been a fan of keane since 2009, and im 25 now so... yeah , it was basicaly all my adolescence. Im glad they came back together! They are not as well known in portugal but still, i like them a lot!
Such a great band. Their hits are sooo catcy. Who as a musician who has never produced anything vaguely as catchy, i look up to them alot. I wish i knew their secret recipe.
u2,coldplay ,angels & airways ,keane or u gays 2nd ? your music is amazing ,wait the killers too , mis mejores 5 amigos ,james ,inxs, depeche mode ,wait overkill men ,,,,erasure ,,,,,,,,,,,so many love you guys
The truth is the British music is littered with Middle Class successful bands .. The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Blur .. heck even John Lennon was somewhat middle class (aunt mimi). There's nothing wrong with being middle class .. so long as you're not a car salesman.
Funny Story :: I didn't know Keane was a band, I thought it was the name of the singer so I saw the video title and the thumbnail and the first thing I thought of was, "OH MY GOD IS HE GAY?" and the way I slapped myself when I read the description and found out Keane is a band and not the singer's name LMAO
Agreed. He must know better but I don't like his new hair style either, this one not being the worst though... I loved his curls. Yet could you imagine Tom with grey curls😏...? But he's still got that lovely face and smile.
I like longer hair too, Tom has modern and too clean haircut now I think, perhaps for younger people. I like his style back in 2007. But he is very handsome man regardless his haircut, but above all he is a great singer and artist, very talented and charismatic 💖
Wearing hearts on their sleeves? Their songwriting is some of the most relatable, touching, and just plain wonderful you could possibly get in a modern rock band. And critics hated them for that? Clearly critics no nothing about just pure humanity in songwriting because Keane touch upon it constantly. That’s a real test of my patience, growing up as a kid in the 2000’s, Keane was the soundtrack of my childhood.
I remember hearing Everybody's Changing and being stopped in my tracks by the sound of the band. Something complete and whole and ultimately satisfying about how they sound together. Like Tears for Fears and Deacon Blue and, going back in time, Hermann's Hermits. Emotional and truthful and musically nourishing.
Thanks, huge thanks for your music, for your love and goodness, for your friendship, you are the best, I love you! So much! And I will always love you:) ❤️❤️❤️
as a 23 year old, I’ve grown up listening to them and the place they hold in my heart is so special. I just adore them, such lovely people. Big love to keane
It is the hardest thing to always be the best and always have work with people who are less. It's okay when there is fun and a kind of friendship. But at the end it kills you.
