For anyone wanting info on what this is read my video description or go look on Tom Chaplins verified Facebook page and look at the event it was recorded at in his posts. It was called The Big Busk for The Big Issue homeless charity.
Tom Chaplin's in rarified-air-space - maybe the best Frontman I've ever seen - good to know Tom's now doing Broadway along with everything else - special special dude.
I totally agree I was going through something really rough and they were playing this song every 45 minutes on VH1 in the middle of the night and I listened to it over and over again and it really helped me
I love it when musicians of this calibre step out into the streets and play without the assistance of expensive equipment. There’s no hiding place, you have to be good and they are.
All great writers do their best work when they were young . Something about feeling like you're going to live for ever that makes you more creative i guess .lol
Valid point, but in the early 2000s my friend introduced me to Keane, and I thought it was cool. Then years later, I realized how special they are. So it could take a while to truly appreciate them.
AMAZING WOW 100% respect for artists like this 90% of so-called artists wouldn't dare do this live in the open with basic equipment as their lack of vocal skills would be exposed
That is called: proffesionalism. If that's even a word. What did ya think???? Keane has been performing for 20.000 people arena's. Of course they can play this off well. This is exactly what is wrong with these times in my opinion. With thanks to internet and social media: scientific stuff is looked at as just "another opinion"(doctor:"you're husband is dead."wife:"That's YOUR opinion".) and young people are getting confused about what is authentic and what's fake. I believe that is going to be a big problem, in the future...
I feel that right now. 15-30 yikes. If you're into Keane I recommend picking up "final straw" by snow patrol. That album in it's entirety is incredible, been with me since I was 14 and definitely experienced the songs in all different ways since then. ❤️
I've always loved this song. There's something uplifting yet bittersweet about the melody paired with the lyrics. I'm 52 now and looking pensively at my life with my children and cherishing all memories. This song is a great reminder of how we should be mindful of those around us.
Same. Im 36 and im a doctor in Buenos Aires but keep thinking about my nonno ( grandfather) that was italian and i most love. I went back with him to his town in Italy because he wanted to die in his child house.
Very well said. I absolutely agree. I’ve loved this since hearing it 2004. I was 4 years deep in love with my partner and it became one of our songs. 13 years later we ended our relationship but remained very close. If anything this song means more to me now than then, lovely, nostalgic and indeed bittersweet. When I listen to it now, I think of us then. Sometimes I smile, sometimes I cry, always I’m thankful.
Lo mismo pensé!!! Es tan maravilloso este tema que tan sólo escucharlo es inolvidable todos los recuerdos de mi vida!! Y no hablar lo lindo que es la banda
Iwalked across an empty land I knew the pathway like the back of my hand I felt the earth beneath my feet Sat by the river and it made me complete Oh simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and I need something to rely on So tell me when you're gonna let me in I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin I came across a fallen tree I felt the branches of it looking at me Is this the place we used to love? Is this the place that I've been dreaming of? Oh simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and I need something to rely on So tell me when you're gonna let me in I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin And if you have a minute, why don't we go Talk about it somewhere only we know? This could be the end of everything So why don't we go somewhere only we know? Somewhere only we know Oh simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and I need something to rely on So tell me when you're gonna let me in I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin And if you have a minute, why don't we go Talk about it somewhere only we know? This could be the end of everything So why don't we go? So why don't we go? Oh, this could be the end of everything So why don't we go somewhere only we know? Somewhere only we know Somewhere only we know
I agree, he's got great control over his voice. It's such a liberating moment as a singer when you discover your upper registry, without the need to switch to falsetto.

well he's mixing on an open A4, in a well produced mix there are elements of chest and head voice going on... he still does it great!
This guy one of best beautiful voices I've heard and he does this playing on street side just like a street musician! Oh also he plays really small clubs, bars anywhere he can just wake up next day to sing before sold out show if 200,000 people omg he's literally a very connected and loyal to ALL people's/fans ❤✌️
@smilez lol. Makes me think of that Kevin Spacey/Danny Devito movie 'The Big Kahuna', the entire movie takes place in one room. Only seen it once many years ago but always stuck with me. Have you seen it? This is so random
God I miss this band. They made it big with hope and fears when I was a young teen, so I've spent most of my life listening to them. Their music touched my soul, and it always seemed to fit whatever I was going through, both the highs and lows. But now, it's crushing to think they may never put out more music.
Let's be honest here.this guy has smashed the bag hard for 15 years lost his way and has now come back. And he is still a million times better live than most people who sing today. Massively underrated. I hope he gets back in the main stream these people here don't even understand magic when they can see it. They don't no how lucky they were to witness this. Keep going Tom you've still got it brother!!
@@sayfuckthat7034 Jajaja flashee que Tom Chaplin leía los comentarios?? Hablo más inglés que Castellano a veces, por eso. Sii ahora ví que vienen a Argentinaaa!!
These kind of music always makes me feel at peace. It brings out so much in me. Positive things like thinking, actions, and dreams. When I close my eyes while listening to this, I tear up because I see myself as a better person in my own world that I created for myself instead of what the world wants to shape me to be apart of. I hope that makes sense...but yeah...that's what music like this makes me feel.
I understand you. You don't need to create a world of your own to be who you are and to extract your best out of your heart. Just remember the personality of your being when you were just a little child. That time was the time of real personality and essence. Try to understand why you feel like other people were trying to shape you and look carefully to what people are they exactly. Are they people who cares about you? Are they of your family? Maybe your parents? Are there some hurts between you and they? If yes, mind about it, so wounds can be powerful enough to make us wish to get apart from people that love us and we love too. It builds a pride wall in our heart and we feel as a prisoner and just wanna put the things to the right place. Then, you can do that. Try to understand others as you try to hear to your inner voice and practice forgiveness. It will be deliverer. Greetings from a friend.
I used to throw party's in my flat when I was 18.. We used to fill the place after our local nightclub finished.. The day after when there was intoxicated bodies strewn everywhere, we would all listen to the Keane album and sing along.. I'm 39 now.. Actually tears me up when I hear this music.. Much love from 🏴.. Great band..
That little tinkle on the drum at 02:20 made me smile. Obviously that part is very loud and has a huge impact when Keane are on stage and on the studio recording.
Not only is this one of the most beautiful songs ever written,it’s also one of the most beautiful sung ,.,,the outstanding voice of this guy singing in the street and his effortless tone is class ,.,,I keep coming back to listen to this year after year ,,,,,reminds you what singing is about.
A big shoutout to Tom Chaplin and Keane for coming up to Glasgow and performing in Buchanan Street. Hadn't realised this until relatively recently but Tom was actually no stranger to Scotland, having previously attended the University of Edinburgh earlier in his relatively short life (so far) but has decided to drop out in order to pursue a career in music.
This was my go to cd 15 years ago always playing in the car. Hopes and fears. At the same time, my best friend and companion Rafe (German Shepherd) was cruelly taken from me because of renal failure amongst other things. So missed so loved so long buddy. This cd is still poignant to listen to. Thank you Keane🙏
Somewhere Only We Know" I walked across an empty land I knew the pathway like the back of my hand I felt the earth beneath my feet Sat by the river and it made me complete Oh simple thing where have you gone? This is the song that made me go back to my hometown. My town is nowhere like the city and population didnt even reach a thousand. Its milez away from markets, wifi is slow and theres no night life. But theres something on it that made me decide to stay and leave the city life for good. And that is peace of mind.
At my sisters funeral, I sang this song... Not knowing that my family didnt know that I could sing... Especially as I sang this song... knowing that this was our favourite song... "This could be of everything so why don't we go somewhere only we go." "Lets go by the tree, where the roots are lifted for all to see. Where the waters of the lake can breathe. Lets sit by the edge and talk. Why don't we just talk and not worry what might bring the past of us."
That’s a beautiful story, and a beautiful story. You’re sister sees you and hears you, I lost my best friend 3 years ago, and I’ll sing songs that remind me of him, they are ALWAYS around us.
I also feel like a dinosaur as I cannot stand times like this anymore. Sparrows, cows and trees will soon be connected to internet and bullshit everywhere. I was born in 1996, and life in 2000s was so much nicer and slower and music was also better cause there was some soul still left in it.
Saw Keane here in Minnesota at a club called The Myth. Truly one of the best shows I have ever seen. Tripped across something that made me look them up. Still sounds pretty darn good - most pop singers could not pull that off!
