Concertina sounds like the spongebob tune

It's all a matter of personal taste. Both sound great but let's say a different flavour. Personally I prefer the punch from the melodion. It has more drive than the concertina and the one you have us particularly good in a class hard to beat.

I think the Castagnari sounds the best. Nothing wrong with the concertina, but I prefer the punch of the melodeon.

Okay. Thanks :)

Bearing in mind that what we are hearing is reduced for transmission and then limited by the sound system through which we hear it, we're not getting the full picture here. Your best answers would come from someone sitting in front of you, or possibly even playing this on both of your instruments. All that having been said, I am partial to the concertina for this one.

Yes, definitely! Music is so different in person.

I can't decide between them. I'm thinking of favoring the concertina, mainly because it looks smaller and easier to hold and carry around. *shrug*

You sound great on both, but I like the Concertina sound a little more. I'm learning the Duet Concertina myself at the moment and I hope I can knock out this tune soon 🤞

Welcome to the family! What kind of music do you hope to play? That seems to be the most popular answer. 😆

@@SamsonJames Thanks 😊 So far I've mainly been learning hornpipes and sailors ballads. Right now I'm practicing "The Dreadnought Tea Clipper".

@@googleuser3163 Nice tune! The rythem especially. I wish you all the best with it! If it's your sort of thing, it might be worth having a listen to The High Level Hornpipe ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dTAw4fvmthE.html. It would certainly make for a good finger exercise once you really get the hang of things! Noel Hill could be worth looking into as well. One of the most talented anglo concertina players. Certainly to walk Ireland at any rate.

@@SamsonJames Thanks for the tip, great tune to try learn! I know Noel well (I'm Irish myself) but as I play the unisonoric Hayden-Duet system I don't think I'd get much use out of his lessons! Even English Concertina material is of little use and sadly there hasn't been much published for the Hayden system... It's going to be learn-by-ear for me I think!
@SamsonJames
@SamsonJames 3 года назад
@@googleuser3163 It certainly sounds like a fun ride! I hadn't heard of the Hayden-Duet system until now. I'm definitely going to tinker with one when I can! The lack information sounds like an open invitation to document your progress for others to learn from!

I think the concertina has a slightly more jaunty and Captain Pugwash, conventional, stereotypical, nautical feel to it.

That is why I like it on concertina. :D And thanks. :)

You can't compare an excellent accordeon with something which is a cheap Chinese or German toy; using not even proper Concertina reeds.
@SamsonJames
@SamsonJames 4 года назад
I wouldn't call it cheap nor a toy honestly but it's definitely cheaper! I beg to differ on the reeds though, irl it has a much more characterful sound than boxes I've heard that are times more expensive (brass and some steel reeded). Honestly, some boxes I've heard are as interesting as a theremin even with bad vibrato... And it has long outlived at least two other concertinas that I know of that have already had at least one service and needs another despite having been played a lot less than this one. The successors to this concertina are toys however without a doubt about it. I'm interested, what's your preference on tone?
@thierrymayes7571
@thierrymayes7571 4 года назад
@@SamsonJames You really should try REAL concertina reeds,like Lachenal or Wheatstone concertinas (new ones are even MORE expensive) most other, including yours, have accordeon reeds. I can't really answer because I am a concertina guy all the way. As for you, you should choose the one you are more comfortable with; after a while, it is the one you will sound best with.

@@thierrymayes7571 Thank you Thierry, I'll keep an eye out for one next time I'm in a shop. And no wonder why I like mine so much being an accordion person! 😆 What concertinas do you have?
@thierrymayes7571
@thierrymayes7571 4 года назад
About 10 real concertinas (English), most systems: I was not quite sure at the beginning so I wanted to try which one suited me best while i could afford them;a bit like what you're doing, but now I will try to sell half of them: McCann, Crane and some English. Anglo is my favourite and I keep.
@SamsonJames
@SamsonJames 4 года назад
@@thierrymayes7571 You have quite the collection then! I've tried English a few times but I think anglo is for me too, or maybe that's down to always having played mainly diatonic instruments.
