yet another great addition to my pedalboard influenced by you, sir. thanks a million for all of this. and the superior sound quality of your videos is part of the reason i keep coming back. also, as a designer i've gotten a kick out of the evolution of the 'motion graphics' end of these things. yeah, that stuff has not gone unnoticed. nice work!
the big muff is a different beast, its a 4 transistor unit. Fuzz Faces and most other based-on pedals (most 2 knob fuzzes) are all 2 transistor circuits. They generally have no signal buffer to take the edge off the notes. A fuzz face in my opinion sounds much nicer on solo situations and a big muff sounds much meatier on chords. The range of tone on a big muff is incredible, even though the sustain jumps through the roof as soon as you touch the knob XD
I found that this pedal wasn't necessarily fuzzy enough for my tastes. I have 6L6 amp, it sounds way sicker through my friend's EL84s, but I did find that it's a hell of a lot fuzzier after sitting in the fridge for awhile.
this, the fuzz factory is really unpredictable, you either have a good tone or a really bad tone, with this you can hardly go wrong and it will blend better in a mix than a fuzz factory
I have this and a peppermint fuzz. I use the fuzzhead for a nice pure overdrive tone and the peppermint brings the mess. The Si/Ge switch is subtle in that the Silicon is slightly tighter than the Ge. You do notice a difference with the fuzz turned up.
lollll, yeah, like, put it in the refrigerator. I usually stick mine in my mini fridge when I'm done at night. Also make sure you have cheapo batteries. Oh and the fridge suggestion was recommended to me for the germanium setting because it's very temperature sensitive.
That's some real old-school stuff. I do it with the FH and have tried it once with my MI Audio Neo Fuzz V2, and the results were impressive. The Neo is kinda rare so probably won't be doing it again, as I don't want any moisture to get into the pedal. Works a treat with Treble Boosters as well!
@Thelittlepumpkins Pedal may not be worth 200 in light of some other boutique effects, but it really need a driven amp to shine, the whole point is you can get tons of fuzz without changing your tone IF your amp is already cranked.
Hey GMD, I am thinking of either getting this pedal or the Analogman Sunface (probably BC-108), and I was wondering which one is easier too use in a live situation? Keep up the good work!
Right on GMD. I've been scoping every analog man video on the internet, but I went to a store and someone put one of these in front of me. Lights out, now I'm 200 dollars poorer and fuzzed out like a muppet.
Toss a good buffer pedal in front and you are home free! So come on, I'm into giant electronic organs these days so I'm not gonna' do this, but I encourage SOMEONE, YOU maybe to put the BC109 BUFFER STAGE FROM THE INPUT ON A COPICAT MKIV FOR GUILD GUITARS in a pedal, and call it a BUFFERCAT, or a CRISPY KITTY... just made these up, can't be any worse that some of these goofy names you guys come up with. My own name invention was a DE-TUNE-ATOR that I stuck on the front of a very awesome Craig Anderton project- Phasor pedal ( I think project 21 in his book...) Built them all 30 years ago ( except the mini amp and the metronome, but built all of the others!). Scored all the parts from my dads electronic job. He built me the rack for all of these projects for Christmas one year. Another year he made me a Wah Wah pedal. He had no clue why anyone would want such a thing, but he made it anyway because he knew what sweeping a notched frequency meant...man where are all of these old dudes now? Oh' wait, I guess I'm one now. lol SAVE THE ORGANS! NEVER DESTROY AN ORGAN FOR THE TUBE AMP, IF IT'S AN ORGAN WITH TUBES THEN IT IS A DAMN GREAT ORGAN!!! One exception, and ironically it has the best tube amp of all on a very nice perfect square approx. 12" x 12"- a Baldwin Orgasonic Console with a 3 channel amp ( this is the ONLY tube organ that lacks quality tone), SPECS- BALDWIN 3 CHANNEL AMP- [TWO CHANNELS ]= 2 X 6bq5 (EL84) & 1 12AX7 preamp/inverter + Vol. knob , and [ONE CHANNEL ]= 4 X 6bq5 (EL84) & 1 12AX7 preamp/inverter + Vol, knob The Power transformer is huge, the two 2 X 6bq5 channel's output transformers are inside chassis, and the one 4 X 6bq5 output transformer is outside on top and is also large. There is one 4 pin input socket ( 3 ch. hots & ground), and inside the large square chassis are also 3 relays so you can use this chassis to switch between channels and even use relays to switch 110V outlets located on side of chassis for switching 2-speed motor for a rotary speaker channel. Heck, build your own Vibratone...BUT PLEASE NEVER EVER EVER DESTROY A WURLITZER ELECTROSTATIC REED ORGAN, A CONN OR GULBRANSEN VACUUM TUBE ORGAN (ANY!), AN ALLEN TUBE ORGAN, A WURLITZER TRANSISTOR ORGAN ( ie. 4500,4300), AND DON'T DESTROY ANY HAMMOND ORGAN, THIS INCLUDES THE LITTLE S6 CHORD ORGANS. Would you destroy a Fender or Marshall? Of course not! Well it's the same thing! Thank you:) Keep Rockin'!
I'm from Edmond, Oklahoma where Keeley is based. I love their products but for gods sake they need to lower the prices. I am not a famous rock star and don't want to pay 209 bucks for a fuzz pedal even if it has a germanium and silicon feature. Now if I'm not willing to pay $209 for a fuzz pedal then I SURE AS HELL am not going to pay for a clean boost in that same range, their compressors are the same price. Even if this is high quality stuff it's just unreasonable to charge that much for subtle effects, or even a good fuzz pedal.
