Can I just thank whoever ponied up to get this played! Great reaction Cliff. My heart rate thanks you 🙌 I would try Number of the Beast, Hallowed be Thy Name or Aces High 😁
Iron Maiden is on the Mt Rushmore of metal. Without a doubt one of the most influential bands of the genre. Check out Number Of The Beast or Paschendale by them if you ever get the chance. Also!! Check out Hand Of Doom by Black Sabbath. About the ravages of heroin on Vietnam veterans.
If you don't know; the undead zombie is named Eddie. He was a teen who died during an Iron Maiden concert; was raised as a zombie, and has been following the band every since. He shows up in every stage show; in one form or another. There's a whole story arc with every album, and album cover of him. The lore is huge. I truly don't know it all; myself, as it has gotten away from me, over the years.
Interesting. Don't take this the wrong way like I'm having a dig at you, but I've never heard Eddie being that. Where did you get that info from as I am curious. As far as I've known, Eddie began as a head, hence his name 'Eddie the Head'. The original artist Derek Riggs, got the inspiration from a picture he saw of a decapitated American soldiers head that was stuck on a stake upon a Japanese war tank. In the bands comic book 'The Legacy of the Beast' Eddie is described as one entity who's soul was shattered into multiple dimensions. He is an embodiment of free will, a chaotic spirit and the unseen catalyst during crucial turning points in history. This further explains why he takes on the many varied incarnations he has and the comic actually follows this premise throughout. This is also evident in the bands music with a lot of their songs being based on history and literature, further placing their mascot in multiple different themes throughout time and space. Eddie looks like a zombie, not only due to him being based off a decapitated and decaying head, but his character is a representation of both life and death in one merged physical form.
One of their very best to me. Great message in a cool metal song. A blistering solo of course, though Harris stands out in this one too. Their undead mascot you keep seeing among the artwork is 'Eddie'. 😱😏 Your awakening to this brilliant music is inspiring, and as a musician yourself your analyses are insightful.
Hallowed by the name, dance of death en vivo, fear of the dark, rhyme of the ancient mariner, empire of the clouds, writing on the wall - you can do no wrong
The clips of Bruce fencing in the music video are great - he was almost an Olympic level fencer and ranked number 7 in the country for a while so it was a big part of his life. I like seeing bits of the band members personalties come through in music videos.
This is an example of musicianship and attitude uniting. The solos are more than just shredding--there's melody and harmony and technique. And the cover art? HOLY SHIT!! The Derrek Riggs art era is absolutely phenomenal; enjoy a plethora of hand-crafted artwork. Perhaps try "Powerslave," from the album of the same name. It has its themes in Egyptian pyramid myths that might resound with your horror roots. Excellent reaction, my friend.
Iron maiden is one of or the biggest global touring artist in music still today in the present. Right up there with Metallica. Maybe tour more. And I'm not talking theaters they sell out 100k stadiums worldwide...in most continents
I was 16 when this came out! Maiden has always had THE BEST cover art, posters and shirts because of Eddie 💀 Keep reacting to Maiden!!! *Always with the lyrics ("Invaders" is my favorite) UP THE IRONS !!! 🤘
They been around since 1975. My favorite album is Peice of Mind. Revelations, The Trooper, Aces High, Still Life, Where Eagles Dare, Rime of the Ancient Mariner,Dance of Death En Vivo, offical video of Hollowed Be Thy Name it's live and recorded a few months b4 the album is released. Can add another 20 songs from them.
Maiden, one of the greatest of all time, still to this day touring and pulling in sold out crowds of 100K. If you want to hear the future of rock music check out Band-Maid.
Woo-hoo, love this song. I've got tickets for Maiden's "The Future past" tour at the 02 arena, London in July. To say i'm a little bit happy is an understatement.🤘😁🤘
@thestranger5182 Yeah you're right. Ive seen them 1 less than you but as much as i'd love them to carry on forever, one day they will actually call it a day so you gotta go whilst you have the chance. My fave show was "Somewhere Back in Time" tour 2008 at Twickenham stadium. Lauren Harris opened, then Within Temptation, Avenged Sevenfold 1 year befor the Rev died & finally Maiden. Gig started mid afternoon & ended 10:30pm. Awesome day :)
I'm so glad that you're also startin' to "dig" into the Maiden catalogue 😉😃👍, if you wanna hear another great one on this album, if you're interested about "History" , try to check Alexander the Great, as you can think, it's about the Alexander, musically and lyrically it's a great song 😃👍👍👍
The song was written after 10 years of heavy touring. They left to a distant hotel for a month and wrote all the songs for the album there. It was after their biggest tour, which took almost a full year. That tour made Iron Maiden the Heavy Metal band Number One in the world. These guys worked their asses off to become what they are. Yes, they are talented but the effort they put in their music is gigantic. Check out "The Assassin", "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner" and "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" by Iron Maiden.
Judging by how fast you recognized Winston Churchill I assume you know history. You should check out some of their other history based songs. Run to the hills, Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, Aces High has an opening narrated by a recording of a Winston Churchill speech. There are plenty of others as well.
For some reason, I always like it when the rest of the band (any band) begins a chorus or a new verse while the guitar solo is just wrapping up. I just find that overlap aurally pleasing. Maybe that just me.
am very true. the past is gone and the future not here so now is the golden time enjoy it as much as you can, even the little things count for something.
So, understand you're wasting time always searching for those wasted years So, make your stand And realize you're living in the golden years This song's chorus is sooo good. It conveys the message that you shouldn't look back in regret of stuff you haven't done when you can still do it, that the "golden years" are the present, and not only that looking back on things past is wasting time, but also that you shouldn't think that your present somehow is inferior to the past, that the "golden" part of your life is the present, not the past. Such a powerful message.
There's so much good music out there. If you want hype music in the rock genre, I always go straight to Van Halen. Eruption, Jump, Panama, they'll all get your blood pumping.
You were bang on when you said you heard bands who were heavily influenced by Iron Maiden. They completely changed the rock/metal landscape in the 70s and 80s. Their music has either directly or indirectly influenced everything from rock and metal, to pop and electronic. The character in all of the artwork is named Eddie. He’s a zombie and there’s some real deep lore about him. He’s been on every album cover and shown up in one way or another on every tour they’ve done. Also, their vocalist Bruce Dickinson is a legit pilot and spent years flying the band around in “Ed Force One” their Boeing 747. Fucking legends
@@kenbongaards554 nope, you are correct. Bruce’s getting too old to maintain his commercial pilot license. 65 is the cut off and I wanna say he’ll be turning 65 in August of this year. My uncle was a captain with United for like 35 years and by the time he turned 65 they basically forced him to retire. The FAA takes that shit real seriously. It’s sad that Ed Force One didn’t have a longer life with the band. But still, even for the little while they had him…that was the most metal shit ever.
@@unclefoot ya figured as much FAA regs, and only Maidenand only Maiden can take the most iconic and beloved airplane in all of aviation and give it their spin on it to produce the coolest looking 747 ever to fly the skies! Dang i had wished i had known they were flying around in that as i was in Toronto on their Book of Souls tour, did see the concert though!I'm very sadden that Boeing has ceased production of the almighty 747! I'm very fortunate blessed to have flown on one when i was child at ten yrs old!! All HAIL TO THE QUEEN and Up The Irons!!!
Hello again, Mr Beats 🙂 The clip of the man going full circle on a penny farthing bicycle you laughed at is from "Run to the hills" it's worth a listen to. My favourites are "The number of the beast" "Hallowed be thy name" and "22 Acacia Avenue" - and they're just off one album! - there's a long way to go on the Maiden journey 😄 Please give Saxon and UFO a listen also - I am very old school metal, it drives my soul and pumps the blood through my veins! Another great review - keep the fires burning, up the Irons! 🤘❤💋
Metal music is very much alive... Pretty much EVERYWHERE except in America. Iron Maiden still sells out any and every arena they play. Not uncommonly within hours of relieasing tickets. Iron Maiden are legends, considered one of the corner stones of metal. Theyre up there with Metallica, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Black Sabbath etc etc. Their music wont go away anytime soon..
I still got some of those Eddie posters and t-shirts the shirts don't fit anymore so they are in frames one of my Grandkids wants to wear a few of them... I don't think so Paw Paw isn't let them get ruined.... My favorite shirts and posters are Eddie dressed in the Trooper outfit and the Aces High as the Spitfire pilot. Maiden was the first metal band to play behind the Iron Curtain ( Poland in 1984 ) 5 years before the wall came down.
If you enjoyed the guitar solo in this one, Stranger In A Strange Land is even better. Adrian Smith went to another level of writing and composition in 1986, and his guitar work throughout the years is immaculate.
Any modern hard rock or metal band would have been influenced by maiden. Their album artwork alone is cause for envy. There is a reason that just about any where you go you will see someone with an Iron Maiden shirt on! Up the irons!
One of my favorite song of theirs is Childhood's End from the Fear of the Dark album, it also has quite powerful lyrics (not that it's strange when it comes to their songs, they've got quite a few)
You would love The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Live (Fight 666) or Dance of Death, Lice (En Vivo) Maiden is a band to be experienced live and not only that you are going to get a great story, history lesson or literature lesson....
You should check out the album covers for Iron Maiden.. Their mascot; Eddy the 'ead, goes through a transformation over the years. But it's the same character on all their albums. ^.^
Great reaction Cliff, You need to check out Fear of the dark live Rock in Rio, it's essential Iron Maiden. Also, it would be cool to hear your thoughts on some of the new BABYMETAL songs METALIZM ( this one is fun 🤯🥳), MAYA, Believing
You’re jealous or mad that you didn’t get to experience the great 80s rock period? I was a teenager then and it’s gone probably never gonna come back. So believe me it’s like a dream that never happened but at least we can still listen to the music & watch reactors like yourself keep it alive. Thanks
I’ve been listening to this all my ,life you must check out 2 hits (Iron Maiden Dance of Death Santiago Chile live) . (Iron Maiden Live Rime Of The Ancient Mariner Live After Death 1985) ,Only Way To Watch Maiden is Live , one of the best concerts you’ll ever see
Hey Mang it’s me Tony Montana… I bring fear like a blue n red bandana… you know you can’t cope a cabana when I in the midst of coke banaza. Lol thought a 54 yo white mountain guy should drop a couple bars 😁
Hey Cliff! I would love to see your reactions to Devin Townsend , he's an amazing Artist and performer. He sings, play guitar, produces and composes. Either Kingdom live on EmgTV or Deadhead Live at the Royal Albert Hall are good ones to start! Thanks!❤
I grew with Iron Maiden. They are absolute monsters of metal. But you have extremely talented and outstanding bands even nowadays. The JMetal scene is a deep rabbit hole. Try with Lovebites “Stand and Delivery” m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4ImGA7cPyrs.html Cheers and Up the Irons!! 🤘🏻
