Young Wits Choir performing "Keep your lamps!", an African American spiritual (Arr. Andre Thomas (1952 - )).
The song refers to the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins in the Gospel who had to prepare for the coming of Christ. For an African-American slave, the parable may hold a double liberation - faith that slavery will be abolished, and that freedom awaited them in heaven.
