Keeping the torso CLOSED like Garrett Gurthie (5 minute Form Check)

This Off-Season I take a look at the best players' form. Not to teach you "the right way to throw" but to inspire you to learn from the great. There are a million ways to make the disc fly far and accurately, and they are all dependent on the individual. That is why I want to show you the many ways that can work perfectly so that you can develop your own, unique style.

i feel disc golf is a lot of partial truths in the sense ppl try to explain whats happening with their bodies but cant quite do it..

I'm so frustrated! I feel like I'm doing everything right but still cant get past 300 feet.

Sorry to hear that. The reality is, you probably are not doing everything right, and that is also a good thing; you still have room for improvement as soon as you figure out the root cause.

Keep practicing it will come u just have to keep throwing and keep working on form no different than getting results in the gym you have to do it at least a couple times a week

"Guys, I was just practicing my spoon-feeding technique for my pet goldfish, and somehow I ended up here, watching frisbee throwing. This really takes me back to the time I tried teaching my grandma how to use Snapchat filters. Anyway, the way these frisbees soar through the air is like poetry for my overcooked spaghetti. Has anyone else ever pondered the existential meaning behind the spin of a frisbee? I once tried to use a frisbee as a coaster for my coffee mug, but that didn't end well. Now, I'm questioning the fabric of reality. Frisbees, man, they're like flying saucers for alien ants. Random thought: What if our dreams are actually frisbees gliding through the cosmos of our subconscious? Probably not, but hey, let's keep throwing those discs and see where the universe takes us. Stay frisbee-tastic, my friends!"

I'm still an early rotator myself, but working on it. Very similar to "keeping your head behind the ball" in ball golf. It's easy to say, but hard to do.

I feel like he also kind of uses his off arm like an anchor to slow down his shoulders (and keep them closed) so he can get more power from his lower body

I think so too. He really doesn't rotate the torso, and to do that... it's HARD. I mean, you saw me throwing and I couldn't stop the upper body.

Do you need to look back fully? I’ve always learned to push your shoulder back and your head just sits there (almost resting against the shoulder). If so, I’ll need to break this habit!

where i live most teepads are elevated and much shorter and to top that off always low ceilings and always windy.. you simply can not just run up 100mph and crank a disc on steep anny where i live and you cant use understable hyzer flips.. mainly have to have no wind days to play if you stink or learn how to hyzer flip over stable disc with no run up via perfect form

Hello Dr spin, I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a noob oriented video. I think something like "the standards of disc golf" where you show proper form for each throw backhand forehand and maybe a good basic run up. They key points to think about and what NOT to do. I feel like this would be immensly helpful for a complete beginner like myself. Just so one can reference these videos, go out throw and film then check ones own form relative to the videos.

It would be helpful, when you show at first the way of the disc to the basket. Then it would be easier to understand the concret position. Good clip!

Appreciate you highlighting this important concept! I mentioned previously I was struggling with spinning out and you advised that it may be my head turning to the target too early. Drilling my head position and focusing on the off arm (Leon's video helped a lot!) I've been able to keep my shoulders closed more effectively and let the throwing arm fire through. Surprise surprise, I'm exerting myself much less and hitting my lines more often and with more power. These pro form breakdowns focusing on the more nuanced phases of the throw are gold for self taught golfers like myself. Appreciate you putting these types of videos out and hope to see more! :)

The secret is the posterior chain from the left buttcheek to the right shoulder, the oblique sling. you need "correct" posture to stretch it correctly while also doing the opposite with the opposite chain. You stretch it and onload it against the brace, like slinging a rope around a pole it accelerates when it hits the pole, the brace is the pole. The body works in muscle chains and crosses at the mid section, you use one against the other to generate power and lock one to release it. left shoulder goes towards the right butt cheek, right shoulder goes towards the left butt cheek, then you violently switch.
@dgspindoctor
@dgspindoctor 6 месяцев назад
It's not, but that is a fun theory for sure.
@thomaswinzy

@@dgspindoctor are you saying you aren't using the olbeque sling or what are you saying?
@dgspindoctor
@dgspindoctor 6 месяцев назад
I'm saying if you don't use the arm, none of this matters, and if you use the arm, all that happens quite naturally. So whether or not the "oblique sling" is a thing, it's only a theory until you brace and swing, and then your body works as it should.
@thomaswinzy
@thomaswinzy 6 месяцев назад
@@dgspindoctor yes i completely agree, it's a whole body movement and I like your emphasis on the brace that you are hammering in. I was just offering a biomechanical explanation, maybe I didn't do a good job. The olbeque sling is definitely a thing btw, it's used in all rotations and even walking forward is technically rotating, the muscle chains are working together and rotating in the gait system. It's why we swing our arms when walking. It's why you can generate power in a step putt.
@dgspindoctor
@dgspindoctor 6 месяцев назад
Yes, and it is an explanation of moves that happen without us even thinking. That is why I try to focus on the things the thrower needs to think about, and there are not many. Hence the "Keep It Simple" mantra I keep saying in this age of micro-managery of rear foot ankle and rear arm punch down and whatnot.
