Hmmm...a lot of negative commentary but I think some people are missing the point, which is the importance of having a connected swing. I didn't have much confidence in my swing until I started to have a very connected feel to it, thanks to Monte's relentless emphasis on being connected. It's in all his videos. And also critical to a good, repeatable swing is his emphasis on natural lag. Once I stopped trying to create lag, just make sure everything feels connected, I'm hitting the ball much further and straighter than I thought possible. Really, in my humble opinion, he's the best on RU-vid.
Monte, all your video's you go on and on about all the wrong things people do with there golf swing. I've learned a lot about what I shouldn't be doing-Thanks
This is actually the most important move in my opinion. If hands/arms are not in front of you, none of the slotting/shallow matters nor can you do them properly. This is never a problem for any other racquet sports but given the odd angle of a golf ball on the ground, it makes it so hard to do in golf...
This is rt on point. If you can't learn to do this you will never be consistent. This is the most important thing in the golf swing. He said it perfectly. You can over work the lower body and spin out and or cause the reverse C or under work the lower body and not hit the ball very far and or way of line.It all has to work together. The sholders must be on plan also. The sequence of the Lower and upper body working together is what powers the golf swing.I would not use the words hands in wat he is explaining.I would use the word left arm because it's the pivit piont of the swing even thought the hands do what the arms do.IF YOU DONT HAVE A GOOD GRIP IT WOULD BE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO UNDERSTAND THIS .IF YOU CAN DO THIS YOU CAN CREAT CENTRIFICAL FORCE AND STOP HITTING THE BALL OFF LINE BUT LETTING THE SEQUENCE OF THE LOWER AND UPER PARTS OF YOUR BODY POWER YOUR GOLF SWING.This guy knows exactly what he is talking about. This is one of the main reasons so many can't seem to get any better at this game.THE HANDS AND ARMS MUST DO EXACTLY WHAT HE IS EXSPLAINING to get consistent. Its a slinging or swinging motion USEING CENTRIFICAL FORCE.Its not a hit it motion as hard as I can with the hands and harms. They are simply along for the ride in the correct time with the swing.I was playing some really bad golf I stopped playing I also had some Eye problems that really hurt my game.I had eye surgery and see very good now.I started to try to play again I started powering the ball mostly with my shoulders.I noticed I was much more centered over the ball and could make good contact. But also new something was missing.I figured out what he is EXSPLAINING a long time ago.I new this. This shoulder thing went on for a few weeks.then I started to use my lower body and when I did my swing came together.Im much more stable over the ball from thought weeks swinging with my shoulders.I realized when I used for legs My distance came back and I also realized By the experience of just trying to power the power the ball with my shoulders that then started to use my legs I was much more stable and centered than I had ever been before .Im hitting the ball better than I ever have in my life so I'm not just spitting of words.Iv played bad and Iv played good and I now understand why. Also grip pressure as alot to do with my improvement and were to apply the grip pressure.I had some natural talent..I have shot in the sixties but never really had the ability to play constantly well until now. When I stopped playing I almost gave up.
If you turn your body without hands in front then the hands are stuck way behind. I recently discovered that the hands need to be in front but with relaxed wrists.
Monte, your video are usually very good, so thank you. BUT this one was very frustrating to me, you highllighted all the negatives to not keeping the club in front of you, but did not tell how you would have students do it. Please make another telling how to keep it in front of you on the back swing. Thanks.
MM teaches a push swing. Muscles only pull (contract), and we cant pull if club is in front. (Jack N said he couldnt release too soon as long as he got to his left side and club was swinging from the inside; club equally between both arms at P6) Get club behind, with butt pointing at the ball at P6 (not parallel to target line) Continuing to turn will force your body to PULL the club, sliding open face under the inside quadrant and deceleration of the club shaft (kinematic sequence) will cause acceleration of the clubface (lever, with fulcrum being the hosel) to square to the back of the ball.(5/10,000 second). Too little time to do any of this consciously. Has to be the result of a singular intent.
Keeping the hands in front yet swinging toward the 8:00 o’clock position as in the no cast turn, is a bit difficult for me to wrap my head around. It seems I’m sending the hands behind me with this move.
When he says keep your hands/club in front of you he is speaking of the "feeling" of the club head. I personally feel it most on the back swing in front of me in the middle of my chest but it does tend to drift toward the right shoulder at the top of the swing then come back to the middle during the downswing. This is my feeling anyways. Maybe different for others. You cant tell someone how to feel something. Try an earlier wrist set and dont get caught up at literally keeping your hands in front of you. It's the "feeling" of the club head that you want in front.
But Jim Furick flattens the plane on the downswing as does Sergio Garcia. How are they not stuck with the "hands behind the chest"? Is it because they appear flat compared to their backswing but are really on plane?
The club can flatten without the hands getting stuck behind, watch Snead, Furrick is so upright his hands have to drop straight down, you have to return the right elbow to the very front of your right rib cage or you will be stuck. The hands can look like they are moving over the top but the club flattens at the same many players do this and it is very desirable, the way you do this is try to return your right elbow about where it was at address, and with the right elbow below the left from 3/4 position on downswing or P4.5 and this will flatten shaft without getting club stuck.
Monte I no doubt believe that you have one of the most coordinated golf swings I have ever seen. BUT you spend most of the time talking about what you shouldn’t do instead of what you should do.
If what you said is accurate then your chest would be facing the ball at impact. Instead, every good golfer has their chest open approximately 25 degrees at impact. The shoulders and the chest move independently from each other. The hands should maintain their relationship with the shoulders throughout the swing, not the chest.
Excellent video here pay attention people knee jerk with over the top then drop it behind them thus causing fat and top shots shawn clement has another video on this too really good golfs a feel game not positional if you try to get a position that you can't maintain for fitness your body won't hold it thus ruin swing
I am sick of watching golf instruction videos and being told how not to do something. This one is especially egregious. Are you waiting to be paid before we are told how to keep our arms in front of our bodies? Forget you dude.
Your completely wrong getting stuck does happen on the back swing my friend! What you just demonstrated is a flat swing which by the is fine holla Ricky fowler . You don't know what your talking about dude. First learn the proper golf term.
Well Julio, I have a few facts for you. I am a former world long drive champion. I played the web.com tour. I have my PGA Tour teaching credentials because I work with tour players. Google rated me among the top 20 most popular golf instructors on the Internet. I just came back from the UK where I was invited to go teach two groups of players. My RU-vid channel has nearly 3 million hits. ....and I stood 10 feet from Ricky Fowler on the range last year while he was working on not being so flat and something similar to this video after a lesson with Butch Harmon. Want to try again?
Monte Scheinblum Humble much! first of all you made the list of most popular instructor in the world! popular doesn't mean good! lol get real; The list that really matters is the one you didn't make.Like Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers, Golf Digest ‘s 100 Best Teachers, Golf Digest’s America’s 50 Best Teachers, Golf Digest’s Best Young Teachers in America, Don't feel the need to defend yourself the web expose everyone...
+Julio Essaka Those are popularity contests as well. All my boasting aside, your example was poor, as his swing change completely negates your point. If you had just disagreed with my point, instead of attacking me personally, we could have had a debate, rather than my resume.
