Kefalari - Mountainous Corinthia | At the foot of Mount Ziria - Kyllini
The village of Kefalari at an altitude of 850 m, has been characterized as a traditional settlement and is located in Mountainous Corinthia. It is 130 km from Athens and Patras and 25 km from Kiato.
An unknown destination for many, but known to those who love the beauty of nature, life in it, tranquility and tradition. Kefalari of Mountainous Corinthia is located at the foot of Mount Ziria - Kyllini, birthplace of the god Hermes. Kefalari or Dusia (name since 1388) until 1940 was one of the largest villages of Mountainous Corinthia with 1200 inhabitants. It officially belongs to the Municipality of Stymfalia and in the 2001 census it had 347 inhabitants. However, the permanent residents of the village are now much fewer.
In the center of the village there is a picturesque square, under the shadow of a century-old plane tree (over 130 years) that dominates it. Next to it, the stone-built church and the traditional guesthouse Archontiko Kefalari. At the bottom of the square, the stone fountain with its crystal waters has been flowing for centuries. Descending the village you come across the old stone school and a little outside the village the spring, from which it got its name.
From Kefalari and specifically from the E.O.F. (entering the village there is a sign to the right), a very interesting climbing excursion begins (especially during the winter months) towards the peaks of Mikri Ziria, Hioni 2,117 m., Dousias 2,086 m., Anonymi 2,082 m. and Tsouma 2,021 m.
Of interest to the climbing public and not only are the two environmental paths, where one leads to the Great Cave and the other to the plateau and the top of Mikri Ziria. Hiking enthusiasts can reach the ravine of Flambouritsa and the Cave of Hermes.
