You shouldn't. Wiley is rude and disrespectful in real life. Be inspired by people you actually meet in real life...who fight the everyday fight. Wiley is blinded by his money and his elite friends...trust me....if he saw a poor person...of any color I doubt he would care to dirty his suit to help.
I'm just now finding out about Kehinde Wiley. His mom sounds awesome! Love Dr. Andre Leon Talley since Style Magazine (on Cable) back in the 80's. Larger than life. I would courtesy in his presence he means so much to the fashion world and has brought so many other's forward because of his grace.
Best artist interview I've seen. I wish they were all like this. I know not every artist is a dazzling intellectual - I think some people become artists at least in part because pictures work better for them than words. I mean that this talk takes the form of a conversation. So many interviews take on a stultifying, tedious, rigidly interrogative form... where it's like a courtroom and the artist must answer every question and only answer the questions... Speaking of Harold Bloom, I wish KW would write a book about the art canon analogous to Bloom's *The Western Canon* - a sort of bibliography with explanations of what to look for in each book Anyway, I'm just discovering visual art in my middle age and KW is my current favorite among living artists. Every time I watch a video where he really talks about something I seem to get another essential piece of the puzzle to understanding contemporary art.
Intensive, informative, and spell-binding presentation. Andre' Leon Tally is so knowledgeable and historical. Kudos to a well spoken icon. I definitely learned something from viewing this video: an artist to follow, Kahinde Wiley. Wikipedia says there is a public display of Wiley's works at The High Museum of Art in ATL,GA. If it's still there, I shall check it out this weekend. And, I, too remember the glove drawers. I even have a pair of pink lace gloves on pink plastic glove forms.
I enjoyed them both so much. My experience has been when two men of African descent and intellectual prodigiousness and who have also navigated and mastered their craft in a world dominated by whiteness meet, the mutual admiration and appreciation of their accomishments can feel and look like "flirting". It's fashionable these days for people to say "I appreciate you." This is one way that appreciation looks like in public. They are enjoying each other.
“Curatorial and custodial”?? Branding? These great souls are themselves. You can call it a brand afterward, you can analyze and talk about it, but for me- Andre Leon Tally’s “brand” is is his very presence. It’s not strategic. It’s natural.

Why is it that gay men in the fashion îndusty do nothing but name drop? It's always prada, head of Gucci, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, Anna Wintour, Ralph Lauren, Andy Warhol. André named 50 fuckin ppl who I don't give two fucks about along with Snooki! Kehinde on the other hand conversation is very very interesting & deep! Love him!
Most celebrities mentioned by Mr. Talley were his friends… not so for Mr. Wiley… also, I thought this was an interview of Kehinde Wiley by Andre Leon Talley… not so… 🙃
