Sugar tax..........there is already a 20% VAT rate on sweets. Unfortunately that 20% rate is also charged on low calorie sugar substitutes (such at teeth protective Xylitol). That tax should come off!!! Times Radio are too dumb to think of that
@mattbooth307
@mattbooth307 7 месяцев назад
Sugar tax needs to go or be reformed. They (the drinks companies) are just loading up their drinks with sweeteners, which actually RAISE blood sugar levels. It's done wonders for dental health, but is absolutely ruining gut health. That's more likely that dental stats have dropped given the severe lack of NHS dentist places. There's many more crohns and colitis diagnoses over the last 10 years since the sugar tax was introduced. They're horrendous chemicals and taste terrible.
@xtc2v
@xtc2v 7 месяцев назад
Xylitol is found naturally in plants. It can be produced by fermentation. Nothing we eat is totally safe either. However a web search tells me that sweetners do not raise blood sugar. What is your source to support your statement that it does?@@mattbooth307

Only applies if Labour are either in first place or second for a particular constituency. If labour are a distant third then it makes sense to vote for the party most likely to oust the Tories, be that LibDem, Green, SNP or Plaid Cymru. And most of all, what are their plans on how to tackle the cause of homelessness and social issues. They need something in place to keep people from becoming homeless. Also, what are their plans to deal with mental illness, as there has been a few unfortunate incidents were people haver lost their lives due to being attacked by mentally ill people who were not properly supported. The Conservative Party has been attempting to push through large volumes of legislation, including an attempt by Jacob Rees-Mogg to bypass Parliament for all British laws with links to the European Union. No matter what anyone says... this Labour party while not encompassing the full ideals of labour - will still be a step up from the current Tory party. You can criticise the labour party, absolutely - but they are the only party that currently can succeed the Tories and we need to back them. If they end up cocking it up once they're in power, then like the Tories we will challenge them on it and no doubt they'll end up getting toppled as well.

Of course I want better as do the vast majority. But if we let that get in the way of stripping the Tories of seats then it'll be them that bounce right back. Unfortunately the older demographic are too engrained into voting for the tories that until the generations move, we won't see a shift from voting intentions to other fringe parties, it's going to take a lot of time. @@chrisdickens4268

The attitude towards Putin is a standout, and I would actually break the habit of a lifetime and vote against Labour if I sense any hesitation by them because it is so important for our children's futures. Interviewer didn't recognise when she'd lost the argument on accusing him of lying. When she moved on to say "so you're happy to indulge in a bit of that back and forth", she hadn't actually made a solid case to show that he had been lying, and Starmer had quite effectively defended his position on the two comments she'd brought up. By saying "hey, that was actually a Sunday Times story" it becomes incredibly hard for her to argue that Starmer is a liar unless she additionally alleges that her colleagues who wrote the story are liars (not just misinformed) and also that Starmer is somehow in on it. Classic lawyer manoeuvre there. And on the Farage video, making clear that he was precise with his wording specifically in order to avoid telling a mistruth is, in lawyer terms, a challenge- he is saying to her "I don't think you know what I said and I am happy to fight you on that ground." Generally, if a lawyer is taking this stance it's because they know they are right. It felt like she had that line ready for when he slipped up, but ran with it anyway despite his robust response. People have to recognise that Starmer is a lawyer first and a politician second, and if you want to argue with him you have to acknowledge him as such. You're not going to catch him out telling porkies in an interview. He has literally dedicated his working life to speaking very carefully and analysing statements thoroughly to meet the scrutiny of the law. It's a fight you will lose every time.
