Okay. Kudos to the creators for ACTUALLY Getting a look alike to play "Sabe". All these years I thought they just had natalie Portman play both parts. I never knew kierra knightly was in this film.

Just realized she asked Padme to clean the droid to give Padme an excuse to move in front of her(and behind the crew). This way she could read Padme’s opinion and decisions.

Sabé and Padmé are both Queen Amidala. Padmé is the 'true' Queen Amidala, but Sabé also had lots of responsibilities and weight to carry on her own when Padmé couldn't be directly consulted, meaning that up till the reveal, Sabé was also acting as the Queen, not just a stand-in for Padmé. After this I think decoys are used less often and are less often put in these power positions, so Queen Amidala becomes Senator Amidala who is basically just Padmé. Who's real name is Padmé Naberrie, if anyone didn't know.

When I was younger, I hadn't understood the meaning of Padme saying, "We are brave, your Highness." It actually was a coded acknowledgement to follow the Jedi's recommendation to go to Coruscant.

Even knowing full well it was Kiera Knightly, I couldn't tell until the little smile at 1:30. The expression made it much easier to see for a second that it was her :)

The biggest twist in the series was finding out that Amidala’s double was played by Keria Knightley.

The credits are misleading. Natalie Portman is credited as playing "Queen Amidala / Padme", which looks like it refers to two different characters, but actually is just referring to one character by two names. Keira is credited as "Sabe", which is a bit unfair as you need to read extra materials to realise this is the name of Amidala's decoy/bodyguard. The credits should have read something like "Queen Amidala (Padme) - Natalie Portman" and "Sabe (Queen Amidala's Decoy) - Keira Knightley".

Keira K. wore only 3 royal gowns in the movie, first one was the black feathered robe, second was the purple (return to Naboo) gown, and the last was the military outfit when she met with the gungan leaders. I was actually reading the book a few minutes ago and found out that KK was wearing the purple dress for a few seconds only before boarding the ship. Then Amidala and Sabe switched roles because Amidala requested a meeting with Panaka and Qui gon.

At 1:26, the "queen" called Padme to take care of R2D2. Didn't those people know the name of the Queen of Naboo!

When Natalie and Keira are standing side by side, it's easier to spot the differences in them. Keira's face is slightly slimmer and the shape of their noses is different. For me it's their smiles that really make it obvious. When I first saw the movie in theaters, I noticed that in the scene on the ship when the Queen says R2 is to be commended & she smiles slightly,, I was like "wait that's a totally different actress". The other obvious part is where they arrive at Coruscant and Palpatine is talking to "the Queen" and then Padme smiles at Anakin. That convinced me there was some bait and switch going on. But yes they are a close match in this film and I'm sure that when they were in full makup and costume and being serious, it was hard to tell them apart, particularly if you didn't know them well.

It's weird how Keira forgot she had that many lines for this movie.

Watched Phantom for the first time today (I know I know) and it was the scene where Amadila requests R2D2 to be cleaned that I thought - is that Keira Knightley?! It was the way she said the word gratitude that twigged it for me. 😂

It is REALLY hard to tell them apart! That's one of the many reasons that E.K.Johnston's "Queen's Shadow" trilogy works so well! I'm pretty sure those were written for middle school girls, but I'm a 51yr old dude and I read that trilogy in 3 days 🤓 they were so good I couldn't put them down!

I had no idea Kiera Knightly was in this movie until today. Why would she make the real Queen go clean up a droid? Why couldn’t the top Jedi and Sith detect that she was pretending to be the Queen. Seems pretty lame if ultimate force users can’t even seen through that. The whole decoy idea seems pretty useless.

I’ve seen more emotional acting from pieces of driftwood. Always assumed this was Padme in disguise. Now I know it was Keira it explains a lot. At least she didn’t do her signature grin.

So at the jar jar family it was the decoy who has the princess dresses. And in the final fight it was the real queen in the uniform standing infront of the enemies and then the decoy is showing up and gets them to think she is the real one?!?! Dafaq? My entire life I was loving the wrong woman >:

I thought I was going crazy. I know all the words to this movie and on Disney+ r2d2 doesn’t make any beeps or whistles in the scene where the queen reveals herself. Finally found this video of the original and it has it. I guess for some reason they removed it at some point. Although I don’t know why they would and it’s not documented anywhere that I can find.

I asked others at the time, no one else noticed it... So I chopped it up to bad CGI tennis ball choices...
