That was awesome. I saw Emerson on this tour when he played Tarrytown, NY and he sounded fantastic. I would have loved to hear him play some more Nice pieces like this one but what he played that night was just fantastic. I truly miss him...I don't have many idols in my life but he was at the top of my list. I'm so grateful that you published this new interpretation of a classic tune.
When The Nice first recorded Karelia, they set it in Bb, even though Sibelius wrote it in Eb. Even when they played it with an orchestra (Fairfield Hall), it was kept in Bb (which must have puzzled the orchestra musicians!). However, now that he is on his own, Keith plays it in its original key. Does anyone know what that was all about?
Anybody else have mixed feelings about Carl Palmer touring without Lake and Emerson? Projecting them up on video screens and drumming along seems like more of a cash grab than a tribute. He did hire a couple musicians to help recreate some of the originals songs for this “Return of ELP” summer tour as well. Who’s buying into it?
He just did not know how to retire - with health failing and way to much to do - and then long battle with alcohol - with some critics picking up on his limitations was something that he found hard to accept after all these years pleasing folks - So a sad ending - especially for his sons and grand kids and girlfriend - seems fame is a bad drug -
Yes, after his concert in July 2015 in London ( Emo was very irritated by the behavior of some of the orchestra members) I believe the participation at Palermo Classica in September was his last public appearance where he played. Once more time a special moment. I had the fortune to shake his hand and the logo of my channel has his sign. Who would guess what would happen six month after!
So sad... And even he had announced a tour with the KE Band for april, this was in January... Keith played in the piano short bits of themes, and he sounded pretty good in his limited state. I though that could be his last opportunity to go on before retirement, but THAT happened in March... "A bullet had found him, he laid down and he cried. No money could save him, so he left down..."
+Ariel Mederdrut (Fuki Makai) Yes - very sad - he just did not know how to slow down - and I think the depression played a role - he kept super busy to not let the depression take over - but years and years of hard work and long days and lots of alcohol use just was taking a toll on his body - If only friends and family could made him retire -
Or at least take a long break, take a medical treatment and that stuff... As happened when he went to surgery in 1994. But watching his latest filmations, I think with much pain he should retired. His hand in 2014 was hard as a stone, he couldn't play basic things unlike this clip, in 2006 he fights with his own limitations to shine on; his situation wasn't so delicate as years later
